“Don’t act like that in front of me. It’s scary.”

Still, coming to this ducal mansion hadn’t been a waste. Being with these villains, I’d learned at least a little about how to handle them.

Though, truth be told, the only “villain” here was Sikar.

I quickly took Kian’s hand to shift the mood and stepped forward to greet the nobles with proper courtesies.

“May your days be as bright as the sun that lights the world each day, filled always with joy. Yura Blake, mistress of Duke Blake’s household, humbly greets Your Majesty.”

“So we finally meet in person. Duchess Blake.”

“It is an honor that Your Majesty remembers me.”

Seeing Gillian give a slight nod, I immediately introduced Kian next.

“And this is my son, Kian Blake. Kian, greet His Majesty.”

Introducing Kian made me a bit nervous. My heart pounded, wondering if he’d suddenly flare up again like when he first met Sikar—declaring, “He’s full of coldness! He’s a bad person!” and igniting another fire.

I glanced at Kian, silently asking, “You can do this, right?” Fortunately, Kian smiled brightly like any ordinary child and spoke.

“It is an honor to meet Your Majesty. My name is Kian Blake.”

Quite clever, isn’t he? Gillian seemed pleased as he smiled at Kian, then quickly turned to me and returned my greeting.

“May your nights be as peacefully dark as those that swallow the world each day, freeing you daily from all worries. I regret deeply missing your wedding and thus came to visit personally. I hope my sudden arrival hasn’t inconvenienced you.”

“Inconvenienced, Your Majesty? How could such disloyalty ever exist? We are profoundly honored by your visit.”

Was it my imagination, or did Sikar just smile at me a moment ago?

“I’m relieved to hear you feel that way, Duchess.”

“Now, if you’ll excuse me, I’ll escort you to the dining room. Though my cooking skills are lacking, I’ve prepared dishes I believe you enjoy—I only hope they meet your approval.”

“You underestimate yourself. My tastes aren’t particularly refined.”

In truth, Sikar had given the instructions for the meal, but while memorizing my script to introduce each dish, I’d inadvertently learned Gillian’s preferences—and his taste was eerily similar to Kian’s.

Gillian favored mostly red meats—foods that weren’t spicy but slightly salty and sweet. He especially loved beef tartare, just like Kian.

Thankfully, the meal itself passed quietly. Aside from Gillian occasionally glancing at Kian, everything seemed fine.

Until Gillian broke the calm silence.

“When did you first meet the Duke, Duchess? He didn’t invite me to your wedding, so I’ve been very curious about your story.”

We’d already rehearsed this.

“I met him while visiting my grandmother.”

“I see. Come to think of it, I haven’t seen your grandmother today.”

Sikar answered that question.

“Grandmother is currently at Grand Cathedral Repher for convalescence.”

“Is she unwell? If you’d only hinted, I could have paid her a visit.”

“I couldn’t possibly trouble Your Majesty with my personal affairs.”

More likely, given Sikar’s nature, he simply didn’t trust Gillian—the one person unable to view his memories—and thus wouldn’t entrust Grandmother to him.

“Don’t speak of troubling me. Every time you say such things, Duke, I feel truly hurt. I still haven’t forgotten the honor of standing beside you.”

Somehow, it felt like he was saying, “If you forget that honor too, you become my enemy.”

Gillian gave a faint smile and turned toward me. I barely managed to hide my surprise behind a polite smile.

“By the way, Duchess, your eye color is quite unusual. I’ve seen many brown eyes, but never black ones—I’ve neither seen nor heard of such a thing. If I may be so bold, where is your homeland?”

“It’s quite far from here.”

“Far away, you say… I’m curious—what kind of place is it? And how did you end up here?”

Though Sikar spoke courteously, his gaze toward Gillian clearly meant, “Enough.”

“Even for Your Majesty, showing excessive interest in my wife seems rather impolite.”

“My deep interest in the Duke naturally extended to the Duchess. My apologies.”

Instead of replying, Sikar simply nodded, and inwardly, I let out a long sigh.

Gillian kept probing, while we kept hiding—filling the dining room with such heavy, suffocating tension.

“It seems you’ve finished your meal. Shall I bring out dessert?”

“Hold on.”

Gillian stopped me as I stood to leave, then called over a servant he’d brought from the palace and whispered something.

The servant bowed in understanding and left briefly, returning shortly with a round tray bearing a shrimp dish, which he placed on the table.

“Lord Lao Ka sent many large prawns, so I brought some along. Knowing it would take time to prepare them here, I had the royal chef cook them personally—they should be quite delicious.”

The Rekador royal family suffers from shellfish allergies, and Gillian was no exception.

Eating shrimp wouldn’t kill them, but their allergic reactions went far beyond mere itching.

Chapter 115 Chapter 114

Their hair would suddenly fall out, and their vitality would drain as though aging at an alarming rate, forcing them to waste precious holy power on healing—and the aftereffects, like being unable to wear fine garments, could last for days. Thus, they avoided shellfish entirely.

Yet now, Gillian had brought shrimp—clearly not to eat himself, but to offer to our Kian.

Though flustered, I knew showing panic would only raise suspicion, so I pretended nonchalance and glanced quickly at Sikar.

Just as I’d feared, Sikar remained utterly expressionless, as unreadable as ever.

Trying to appear calm, I carefully asked Gillian,

“Everyone in Rekador knows Your Majesty has a shellfish allergy—including me. If you can’t eat it, what’s the point of us enjoying it alone? Let me serve something we can all share.”

Until now, Gillian had watched me calmly, but his eyes suddenly turned icy.

“Are you saying you’d refuse a gift brought personally by the King of Rekador?”

“That’s not what I meant…”

“Wife. His Majesty is right. Refusing food personally offered by the King is deeply disloyal—please eat without further objection.”

Sikar gave Gillian a slight, respectful bow.

“My wife comes from a distant land and knows little of our customs. Please forgive her words, Your Majesty.”

“Forgive? Of course—I don’t mind at all. Don’t worry.”

What on earth was Sikar thinking?

Kian had never eaten any shellfish before. Living in the mountains, he’d never had the chance, and since coming here, I’d been careful to keep him away from them.

Thus, Kian didn’t even know if he had such an allergy himself—and would surely eat it without a second thought, revealing everything.

Yet Sikar remained so unnervingly calm that I had no idea what to do.

Just as I tried to signal him with my eyes, Sikar reached out and served shrimp onto Kian’s plate.

“Kian, it looks delicious—go ahead and try some.”

Without hesitation, Kian took the shrimp, took a bite, and—as expected—found it so tasty he quickly finished all the shrimp on his plate.

Gillian watched this with apparent amusement, but I broke into a cold sweat, my heart pounding so hard the room spun.

Seeing Kian enjoy the shrimp so much, Gillian smiled contentedly.

“He eats so well.”

‘Sikar! Sikar! What are you thinking? Why aren’t you stopping this?’

I desperately wanted to ask him right then, but he wore that infuriatingly indifferent expression, revealing nothing.

“Kian, was it tasty?”

“Mother, please try some—it’s really delicious!”

“Oh my, you must have loved it—look, it’s all over your mouth.”

Pretending calm, I wiped Kian’s lips and gently touched his face—but he showed no fever, no signs of shock whatsoever.

Had Sikar secretly switched the dish? My mind raced with possibilities, yet nothing made sense.

Frustrated, I decided I had to end this situation quickly.

“Your Majesty, we are overwhelmed with honor to partake in such a rare delicacy. We are deeply humbled.”

Gillian gave a thin, satisfied smile. Seeing that expression, he really did resemble Sikar in more ways than one.

“Did you know it’s widely rumored in society that Duke Blake fell for you at first sight and married you immediately?”

Of course I didn’t know—I’ve been cooped up inside this mansion.

Anyway, I feigned bashful pleasure and replied politely,

“I’ve never heard such a thing, Your Majesty.”

“That’s why I was so curious about what kind of person you are. Now that I’ve met you, I understand why Duke Blake was smitten at first sight.”

Smitten? He’d wanted to kill me at first sight.

“You may have heard—next month, my wedding will be held at the palace. I’d very much like to see you there, Duchess.”

“Wherever Your Majesty calls, we shall surely attend.”

Gillian smiled, clearly pleased with me.

“Duke Blake has chosen his wife very well indeed.”

“We are deeply honored, Your Majesty.”

Even as Gillian prepared to leave, I couldn’t relax, terrified Kian might show a reaction—but strangely, Kian remained perfectly fine.

Only after sending Kian off to his room first could I finally ask Sikar what had happened.

“Sikar, what just happened? Kian has a shellfish allergy!”

“That’s exactly why Gillian brought the shrimp—to test Kian.”

“You knew? I can’t make sense of anything that just happened.”

“Previously, the late king repeatedly tried feeding shellfish to Gillian. I’d obtained an allergy remedy long ago, and happened to still have some left. Knowing Gillian was coming, I gave it to Kian just in case.”

‘Really? That’s all it was?’

“Then why didn’t you tell me? I was terrified!”

“I only remembered right before the meal—it couldn’t be helped.”

Relief washed over me so powerfully I nearly burst into joyful tears. More than anything, Sikar had felt like a true ally, wholly on my side—and without thinking, I almost embraced him.

It would’ve been just like the joyful hug after watching someone win a desperately awaited match.

“Now even indirect kisses aren’t enough—you’re going for a full embrace?”

Let me say again—that would’ve been a hug of pure joy, like after a hard-fought victory. And I only almost embraced him; I didn’t actually do it.

“Well, you didn’t actually hug me.”

“Seeing you attempt something so unlike you… You must have been very nervous. After all, if Kian’s royal blood were exposed, your useless life would’ve had to be handed over to me. That’s why you were tense, wasn’t it?”

Could this man really laugh while speaking of someone’s life?

I ground my teeth and glared at Sikar.

“You told me to become a villainess, didn’t you? Fine—I’ll show you exactly what a real villainess looks like.”

Sikar smiled, amused.

“I’m looking forward to it.”

Male lead is reincarnated to save his wife

I’ve also read this one twice already. The female lead is kinda soft and gets embarrassed easily—not really my type, but the plot is definitely worth reading. Hurry up and read it, y’all!

Intro

When Shen Yuan encountered Su Jin again in his previous life, she had already become the Prime Minister of the current dynasty. As for him, the former top young master of the capital, he had long since fallen into the abyss, becoming a singer on a pleasure boat.

After a song ended, he was redeemed and sent to the Su Residence.

Su Jin respected and cherished him, gave him a roof over his head, and bestowed him with warmth. Shen Yuan fell deeper and deeper, but before he could express his feelings, Su Jin passed away.

Shen Yuan died to follow her in death, but instead, he returned to when he was fifteen years old.

At that time, he was not yet engaged, and Su Jin was just a poor scholar.

Shen Yuan gritted his teeth, casting aside all his pride, and thought of ways to coax and entice her every day.

The colder and more indifferent Su Jin was towards him, the more proactive Shen Yuan became.

He was not afraid of being mocked by the world, only wanting to marry his Wife-master early, to hold her hand and never let go for a lifetime.

[Note: This story will not specifically point out the male lead’s reincarnation time point; it’s all in the details. Whenever you feel that the male lead is acting strangely, he has most likely been reincarnated.]
