The training room at Duke Blake’s manor looked, from the outside, like nothing more than a small circular building resembling a modest practice ground.

The training room was a private space used exclusively by the manor’s master, Sikar, and his subordinates, never disclosed to outsiders. Directly in front of the training room was an attached corridor-style waiting area where one could rest.

Vika and Durion used to spend nearly half their days in the training grounds.

Lately, however, Vika hadn’t been visiting the training room as often as before, occupied as she was with caring for the young master who had appeared at the manor—but on days like today, when guests arrived at the manor, she invariably came here.

Durion stood with his arms crossed, aimlessly pacing the waiting area.

“The Duke and the King seem to be on bad terms. Did they have a fight?”

Vika appeared disinterested, sitting as if she weren’t paying attention, but all her senses were focused outside.

“Humans are always fighting.”

“But you’re always fighting too, aren’t you?”

“We fight openly, but humans fight underhandedly.”

Durion absolutely could not agree with the notion that all humans were the same.

“Not all humans are like that. Look at me—I always fight openly! I’m the kind of person who doesn’t even know what scheming means!”

Vika likewise couldn’t agree.

“You’re just too stupid to scheme.”

Durion didn’t bother denying that. He scratched his cheek a few times and gave a nod of reluctant acknowledgment.
