I woke from my sleep, my eyes snapping open as I shot upright into a sitting position.

Still catching my breath from the shock, I felt a hand holding mine. Turning my head, I saw Sikar watching me with languid eyes.

Because I’d just had a dream about kissing him, seeing him holding my hand made me jump in surprise. My face flushed hotly—just imagining him thinking I’d dreamed about kissing him made my cheeks burn.

What must he be thinking? He’ll probably say again that I must really like him if I dreamt about kissing him! For now, I decided to play innocent and blurted out,

“What—what is it?! You?!”

Sikar released my hand with an expression that said it was nothing important.

“I saw you having that wardrobe dream again, so I entered to see how scared you really were. But your fear was so strong I couldn’t pull you out of that wardrobe. You have to overcome it yourself to escape that nightmare.”

So that meant Sikar had entered my dream?

“You can enter dreams, too?”

“I can’t summon spirits myself, but I can control the minds of spirits that already exist. If a dream spirit causes you to dream, I can use it to intrude into another’s memories. Of course, you know not every Sitar can control the minds of all spirits like I can.”

Of course I knew that. But that wasn’t the important thing right now!

“D-does that mean… it was you who kissed me?!”

“You refused to overcome your fear and come out of the wardrobe, so there was no other way. If I kept kissing you, that dream would gradually become a pleasant memory.”

Huh? It felt like it would’ve become an even worse nightmare. He didn’t seem to realize that by entering someone’s nightmare, he’d just made it worse.

“People who dream nightmares filled with fear, like you, find it especially hard to escape the nightmare spirit. Until you overcome that dream, I intend to keep kissing you in your dreams. That way, it’ll become a beautiful, happy memory.”

Sikar genuinely believed that by kissing me, my nightmare would turn into a beautiful, happy memory, and I’d never have that nightmare again.

This was purely his own assumption! Let me emphasize once more—this guy was clearly insane.

“Isn’t there another way?”

Sikar gave a faint, teasing smile and tilted his head back.

“Are you really that embarrassed? Your face is redder than a ripe strawberry. Don’t get too excited—it was just a dream, not reality.”

D-did he think I was excited about it?

Even though Sikar said it wasn’t real, the sensation of his kiss had felt incredibly real. Honestly, I might have woken up precisely because I was so startled by it.

“I suppose I’ll need to make another dreamcatcher. It seems you need one just as much as Kian does.”

If it worked, I’d have hung one up ages ago.

“But that thing doesn’t work. It’s just superstition.”

“Then why did you ask me to make one for Kian?”

“Kian’s just a child. I thought believing in a dreamcatcher that protects him from nightmares might help. I figured it could give him some comfort.”

“Your reasoning makes sense. Then I suppose I’ll just have to keep entering your dreams.”

“To… to kiss me again…?”

“I’m going to erase your nightmare, yet you think I’m going there just to kiss you. You cheeky thing.”

“W-who’s cheeky?!”

“You’re blushing again. You really are cheeky.”

He kissed me himself, then called me cheeky!

Could this possibly be one of those misunderstanding tropes? Where the villain constantly misreads situations and ends up doing something silly like this?

No. That couldn’t be right. This novel was definitely a fierce struggle for the throne!

“Oh, by the way—I saw in your memories yesterday that you suggested folding origami?”

“It’s a game Kian enjoys.”

“The protagonist playing children’s origami games? How pitiful.”

From Sikar’s perspective, that might’ve made sense. After all, he’d lost his parents at an even younger age and had been forced into heir training at the ducal estate.

Because of that, he’d never learned the usual noble pastimes or even attended the Royal Academy.

“Our goal is to raise little Kian emotionally healthy, just like any ordinary child. And origami is something I’m good at—so I’m confident!”

“I should probably look into what kinds of games are suitable for children.”

As he said this, Sikar took my hand and focused intently.

“Origami doesn’t seem difficult, and playing with reed sticks doesn’t look bad either.”

“I was actually planning to introduce Kian to those games once he’s a bit older. They’re good for cognitive development.”

“Does someone as intelligent as Kian really need to be taught that?”

“It’s beneficial for emotional intelligence. At this stage, Kian’s emotional intelligence wasn’t very well developed—he grew up far too lonely.”

As soon as I said that, I realized my mistake. After all, he was someone who’d grown up even lonelier than the protagonist—so utterly isolated that he’d never once opened his heart to anyone or even smiled.

Fortunately, when I glanced at Sikar, he was still solely focused on reading my memories.

Sikar, who’d been holding my hand, frowned deeply as if something displeased him.

Chapter 115 Chapter 114

“By the way, didn’t I tell you to look at the roses outside your window every morning when you wake up? It seems you haven’t been keeping that up lately.”

Am I some novel character who needs to steel their resolve by staring at roses every morning? That’s just a narrative device authors use to show the protagonist’s perseverance and tenacity to readers!

Still, I offered a weak excuse anyway.

“I’ve been feeling a bit more aloof lately…”

It didn’t work, of course. Without releasing my hand, Sikar abruptly pulled me to my feet.

“When I was left alone in this house, I always steeled my resolve by looking at the weeds trampled underfoot.”

I know that already.

“Then your resolve shouldn’t waver.”

But it’s all just a narrative device!

Sikar opened the window and positioned me firmly in front of it, standing directly behind me so I couldn’t move.

“Even if it doesn’t seem fitting for you now, if you look at those red roses every day, someday you’ll see yourself reflected in them—just as someone who draws tigers constantly might eventually draw a cat.”

“In short, you’re just saying I should be ruthless, but phrasing it grandly.”

“All resolutions sound grand.”

“Fine, I get it. Now move aside a bit. You’re completely surrounding me—I can’t breathe.”

Truthfully, his posture reminded me of how he’d ambush and kill people from behind, which was terrifying. When he closed in like this, I couldn’t do anything.

“Can’t breathe? Durion once said that when you like someone, just seeing them makes you feel wonderfully breathless—is that really true?”

“No, I literally can’t breathe.”

“You really are strange. Everyone else fears me, yet you boldly claim to like me.”

“…”

“Let’s go down for breakfast before it gets any later.”

Though I thought it safer for my survival to let him believe I liked him, I couldn’t help the occasional surge of frustration.

After a quiet breakfast, Sikar left immediately for work, and Kian went off to play spirit games with Vika.

Lately, Kian spent every morning doing what he called “spirit games” with Vika—but it was actually spirit lessons in disguise. According to Sikar, this would help Kian’s abilities as a spiritcaller develop faster and hasten the day he could lift his curse.

Meanwhile, I’d instructed the servants to prepare origami paper and was now leisurely sipping tea on the cozy balcony bathed in warm sunlight.

Enjoying the rare moment of peace, I was soaking up the sunshine when Meiri spoke to me carefully.

“My lady, His Grace has sent word to bring you to the young master’s playroom.”

“The playroom?”

“Yes. His Grace prepared a playroom for the young master.”

What on earth? He’d done this without my asking? A playroom? Had he gone off to handle “work” just to build Kian’s playroom?

But even though he built a playroom, why did I feel such ominous dread instead of heartwarming anticipation?

I immediately stood up.

“Hurry, Meiri.”

My unease didn’t fade as I walked down the hallway. After all, this ducal estate already had Sikar’s training room—a place so intense it felt like another world, filled entirely with drills and exercises.

Surely he hadn’t turned something that harsh into Kian’s playroom? Or worse—built a haunted house and called it a playroom?

Anxious, I practically ran to Kian’s playroom and flung the door open.

In that instant, I couldn’t help but gasp in admiration.

Thankfully, Sikar seemed occasionally sane—he hadn’t turned Kian’s playroom into a training ground. Instead, it resembled a modern playroom.

Had he recreated it after reading my memories? Curious and excited, I stepped inside.

On one side of the room were piles of small balls, and next to them stood a little tent that could serve as Kian’s hideout, along with various model blocks and teddy bears.

Seeing my amazed expression, Sikar gave a slight, dismissive smirk as if to say this was nothing.

“Well? Is it decent?”

Of course it was decent! Overwhelmed with delight, I clasped my hands together and looked at Sikar.

“How did you even think of making something like this?”

“In your memories, children’s playrooms looked like this—fitting for a child of House Blake.”

So it wasn’t really for Kian, but to uphold the dignity of the ducal house.

Still, that was fine. No matter his motive, it would make Kian happy.

Besides, I’d been worried he might’ve decorated it like a haunted house, but it was actually wonderfully done.

“Kian’s going to love this.”

“Then we should call for Kian.”

“While we’re at it, it’d be nice to invite Vika and Durion too.”

Sikar frowned as if he couldn’t agree.

“Why those two?”

“Children enjoy playing with multiple people. I think Kian would have more fun with Vika and Durion than just with us two. Right now, they’re the only ones who play with him.”

“No trouble at all.”

When summoned by Sikar, Vika and Durion entered the room, looked around, and were utterly shocked.

Having spent their days handling swords, axes, and spears, these villains were seeing such delicate playthings for the first time—which explained their bizarre reactions.

“What in blazes is this room?”

“Your Grace… are these… new types of totems?”

Sikar couldn’t care less about their reactions.

“Sit down and pick one of these up.”

This time, they stared wide-eyed at the origami paper laid before them. Their reactions differed: Vika looked utterly baffled, while Durion seemed slightly excited.

“What? You want me to fold paper?”

“Is this… used for cursing people?”

“It’s a game. A fun activity to enjoy with Kian.”

“A fun game? Marriage really has changed you.”

“Vika, he said it’s fun! Is it like summoning undead or something?”

Sikar, reaching his limit, pinched his brow and tossed sheets of origami paper at them. Without missing a beat, both Vika and Durion swiftly caught the papers he threw.

“It’s a game with Kian. Sit quietly, watch what I do, and fold your paper.”

“Tch. Of all the useless things—I’m about to do the most pointless activity in my 140-year life.”

Durion kept glancing between Sikar and Vika as if still unable to believe this was real, blinking several times before finally picking up the origami paper.

“Seriously… just fold paper?”

Yes. You villains—just fold paper! Since you’ve never experienced childlike innocence in your lives, of course you wouldn’t understand.

Though Vika and Durion clearly didn’t want to fold anything, they couldn’t disobey Sikar’s orders—especially with him glaring at them—so they grumbled reluctantly as they began folding their papers with surprising precision.

Only then did Sikar call a servant.

“Go fetch Kian.”

“Yes, Your Grace.”

Kian would finally see this room. I wondered how he’d react. My heart pounded with excitement and curiosity.

Please don’t let him hate it… I really hoped he’d be happy. Too nervous to calm down, I looked at Sikar with flushed cheeks and whispered,

“Sikar… I’m so nervous right now…”

Sikar flinched slightly at my words, then quickly glanced at Vika and Durion before meeting my eyes again.

“You don’t have to show your affection for me so openly—not while Vika and Durion are watching.”

Why does he keep saying things like that?

Just then, I noticed Vika and Durion staring at me with mouths agape. Could they possibly think I was shamelessly showing my affection for Sikar?

Sikar cleared his throat a few times before replying,

“Yura always gets nervous around me.”

‘That’s because I’m scared!’

Vika clicked her tongue and shook her head, muttering, “My lady really does have unique tastes.”

Meanwhile, Durion gave me a thumbs-up and declared,

“You two really suit each other!”

‘No, it’s really not like that!’

How was I supposed to deal with these villains, all lost in their own misunderstandings…?

After Being Cheated On, She Picked Up a Treasure (Female-dominant)

One-line summary: The husband I married on a whim had been secretly in love with me for a long time.

On the day when Jun Shao finally obtained the imperial decree for her marriage, Lan Qu, the person she had admired for six years, defied the decree and ran away.

Her gentleness and devotion, her promise of a lifetime together, were all disregarded by him. Instead, he dreamed of entering the palace to serve the Emperor’s sister as a sixth-rank attendant.

News of this incident spread throughout the capital, and the alleys in front of and behind the Lan mansion were crowded with people who came to watch the commotion.

Jun Shao should have been embarrassed and angry.

But someone stepped in to protect her dignity.

The figure was in a miserable state, yet still possessed an undeniable elegance and handsomeness.

The young lord struggled to climb the wall of the Lan mansion and shouted to her, “If he won’t marry you, I will!”

So, Jun Shao took advantage of the situation and married the person.

She thought the young lord did it to save the Lan family from the crime of defying the imperial decree, but never imagined that from beginning to end, what he coveted was her.

*

After the wedding, Jun Shao felt like she was living in a dream.

Her Wife-master was as beautiful as a fairy in a painting, skilled in the six arts, well-versed in poetry and literature, capable of being gentle and attentive, and also grand and dignified. Most importantly, she was the only one in his heart and eyes.

Jun Shao didn’t know how Lan Shiwu, as a illegitimate son without a father and blessed with beauty, had managed to preserve his purity, recklessly escape, and use his last ounce of strength to ruin his own reputation, all because of his love for her, just to stand before her.

She could only see him gazing at her with eyes full of love, and when she bestowed a name upon him, his eyes shone like stars.

“You have come to me like a weary bird perching on a branch. I shall call you A Qi.”
