“Do your best. If you succeed as promised earlier, I’ll grant you a day pass to go outside.”

Of course, I was absolutely determined to persuade Raydocs—not just for the outing pass, but to prevent a great catastrophe.

“I’ve come here because there’s something urgent I must inform you of, Your Lordship.”

“Something I absolutely must know?”

“Do you know Valije Tahigon?”

“Of course I do. Isn’t he Princess Veronia’s husband? Because of him, Princess Veronia was excluded from the line of succession. Had it not been for that spirit mage, she would have become queen of this nation. In that case, the late deposed king wouldn’t have ruined the country’s governance, and the current king wouldn’t exist either.”

That statement implied that if the current king didn’t exist, Sikar wouldn’t be playing king either. After saying that, Raydocs lifted his teacup and stared pointedly at Sikar, as if ensuring he’d heard.

“Isn’t that right, Duke?”

‘This is exactly what Raydocs said to Sikar in the original!’

In the original story, right after this, Sikar had pretended to fumble and pulled out a jackknife, cutting Raydocs’ face.

Surely he wouldn’t do that now? He wouldn’t ruin everything like that?

I anxiously glanced at Sikar, but fortunately, he simply watched with an impassive expression.

“That would be so.”

What a relief. I had no idea how much stress I’d just endured. Letting out a sigh of relief, I continued the conversation with renewed indignation.

“Do you know that Princess Veronia has a son?”

Of course he wouldn’t know. I asked knowing he was unaware.

At that moment, Raydocs’ eyes flashed brightly. His previously friendly gaze instantly turned wary.

“What do you mean by that?”

“Princess Veronia has a seven-year-old son—the king’s nephew.”

Raydocs let out a hollow laugh, as if hearing something absurd for the first time.

“Did you come here thinking I might know or be hiding the princess’s son? If so, you’ve come to the wrong person. I know absolutely nothing about such matters.”

Ah. I suppose he could misunderstand it that way.

“No, Your Lordship. It’s quite the opposite.”

“Does Duchess Blake realize that the more she speaks, the less I understand? What exactly do you mean by ‘the opposite’?”

I hesitated—the next words I had to say were like a time bomb. My heart pounded fiercely; after all, I was about to reveal Kian’s existence.

I glanced once at Sikar to confirm I was ready. Sikar gave a slight nod, urging me to go ahead.

“We’ve come to inform you that we’ve adopted Princess Veronia’s son.”

“What on earth…?”

Raydocs looked utterly shocked. He stared at me with disbelief, as if questioning how such a thing could even happen, then turned his gaze to Sikar.

“Why are you telling me this? Isn’t it enough that you’ve made the king a mere figurehead? Now Duke, are you planning to place the royal heir on the throne and become his father, thus ruling the kingdom yourself?”

So that’s how he interpreted it after all.

“That’s not it at all. Long ago, the current king confined Princess Veronia somewhere and has been searching for her son ever since. During that search, the spirit mage Valije met his death.”

“But how could Duchess possibly know all these details so precisely?”

“Because we found His Highness the royal heir and heard it directly from him.”

Raydocs wore an expression of utter incredulity.

“I recently heard that Duke adopted a golden-haired, blue-eyed boy. Rumor had it he was your biological son, though I found that odd—after all, you, Duke, have black hair and black eyes. Why adopt His Highness the royal heir as your son?”

“His Highness doesn’t yet know he’s the royal heir of this kingdom. However, the king is searching for him. Therefore, we adopted him as our son to protect him.”

A brief flash of anger crossed Raydocs’ otherwise composed face. The Sikar he knew wasn’t the type to risk himself for a royal heir—it was as if he refused to be played for a fool by our schemes.

“That makes it even more incomprehensible! Why would Duke adopt His Highness the royal heir whom the king himself is searching for!”

“It’s because the current king will follow the same path as the deposed king.”

Raydocs’ face contorted even more than before.

“So you’re claiming to foresee events that haven’t even happened yet? Or perhaps, Duchess, are you a fortune-teller? The king isn’t currently walking the same path as the deposed king—yet you claim he will?”

Raydocs stood up abruptly, as if our words were no longer worth hearing.

“I don’t know your motives or purposes for coming to me, but I’ll say this one thing clearly: I will never side with Duke, and I won’t allow this kingdom to fall into your hands. Now, please take your leave.”

Just as Raydocs turned to walk away without looking back, a jackknife suddenly flew toward the door he was heading for and embedded itself in the frame.

I whipped my head around to stare at Sikar. He regarded Raydocs with serene indifference, as if nothing had happened.

“We’re not done talking yet. Sit back down.”

“Duke truly does as he pleases.”

“If you know that well enough, sitting down would be best for your own sake.”

We’d agreed to handle this amicably, yet he’s doing it again. Again.

Clenching my teeth, I whispered to Sikar as if using ventriloquism.

“We agreed to speak nicely. And that’s not what you should be saying right now. Stick to the plan. The plan.”

Sikar shot me a sharp glance, then ran a hand through his hair and spoke in a languid tone.

“My wife has seen the future. That’s why I’m saying it—sit down.”

Raydocs surely understood that, by Sikar’s standards, this was unusually considerate.

Raydocs tilted his head several times as if overwhelmed by nonsense, blinked repeatedly, and alternated his gaze between us.

His eyes clearly asked whether we’d lost our minds.

“You expect me to believe you’ve seen the future?”

“You may find it hard to believe, but yes. Remember when I brought Lucy here recently? That wasn’t coincidence.”

“It sounds as if you encouraged Lucy to run away.”

“I knew Lucy would wander there after running away. You likely can’t trust my words—but in exactly three days, Lucy will leave home again.”

Since Raydocs was certain such a thing would never happen, he looked at me with even greater distrust.

“Do you truly believe that?”

“The day we found Lucy for you, Your Lordship told her that her mother had become a star in the sky, and you believed she’d never run away again. I know that too.”

For the first time, Raydocs’ expression shifted—until now, he’d firmly refused to believe us. He clearly hadn’t expected I’d know even that detail.

Again, Raydocs looked incredulous—but this time it was different. His expression asked how I could possibly know such a thing.

“But Lucy will search for her mother. She believes she’ll meet her mother among the stars, so she’ll start wandering outside every night. I’ll say no more for today. If you ever feel inclined to hear more, please send a letter to the Duke’s residence anytime.”

I stopped right there. Only then could I hope for a next meeting with him.

***

Outwardly calm, inwardly I was so tense that as soon as I entered the carriage, I gulped down water desperately.

“You really can’t quit that habit.”

“It’s not something I can just stop. You have no idea how nervous I was.”

If I hadn’t repeatedly practiced exactly as Sikar instructed, I wouldn’t have spoken so calmly back there.

Sikar sat with his arms crossed, seemingly reflecting on his conversation with Raydocs.

“Raydocs probably won’t believe us. He’s skeptical at best. He might start trusting us slightly only after Lucy definitely runs away again next time.”

“He’ll likely need Lucy to attempt running away several more times before believing us… But I doubt he’ll just let Lucy keep running away.”

“Of course not. He’ll probably assign someone to watch her.”

“Still, if Lucy keeps trying to run away, he’ll come to us. Whether he believes us or not, Raydocs would do anything for his daughter.”

“True. The problem is, I hope it doesn’t take that long.”

“For now…”

“Right. It just came to me. Soon, in Yucanadar, the mother of a golden-haired, blue-eyed boy will die. Gillian’s guards will search for Kian but mistakenly kill the wrong person, and Raydocs will grow furious with Gillian over this. We can use that. We’ll have to wait until that child’s mother dies.”

Right. That’s when the boy’s mother died. Now that I remembered, I couldn’t possibly let her die.

“Oh no, Sikar. We have to save her.”

“Why?”

“Because knowing she’ll die and just letting it happen is unthinkable!”

“You want to spare the bait when we need to catch the fish? That’s utter nonsense.”

You cold-blooded bastard.

“We’ll save her and figure out a way to make Raydocs take the bait.”

“That reason won’t convince me. If you truly want to save her, persuade me with a clear, compelling reason.”

A clear reason…

“Of course! Didn’t I say I’ve seen the future? If I claim to have seen the future yet stand by and let this happen, Raydocs will never trust me! When that woman dies, Raydocs will think of his own wife and rage. Seeing a child left to grow up motherless, he’ll recall his own children—that’s why he’ll never forgive Gillian! If we let her die, to Raydocs, I’ll be no different from Gillian!”

Did Sikar finally yield to my argument?

I nervously studied his expression. Sikar rarely showed emotion, and his blank face gave no hint of his thoughts.

He simply looked at me with indifferent eyes and stated plainly,

“You argued well.”

My Ex-Girlfriend Is The Regent In The Female-dominant World (Male lead transmigrates to the matriarchal world)

Two years ago, Gu Sui picked up a homeless woman in ancient costume from the street.

Apart from occasionally claiming to be a princess from a female-dominant country due to illness, her figure, appearance, intelligence, and martial arts skills were impeccable.

Naturally evolving from roommates to girlfriends, as time went on, Gu Sui found it increasingly difficult to tolerate her queen syndrome.

“Mu Jiulu, can you stop controlling me inside and out? Let’s break up.”

Gu Sui made a breakup call, and since then, he couldn’t find any trace of her.

A year later, Gu Sui, who was planning to move, woke up the next day and found himself in a different place.

“Young Master, today is the day you choose your Wife-master through martial arts competition at Jade Dew Pavilion. Please get up quickly.”

Gu Sui: Who am I? Where am I? What am I doing?

As the only son of a general’s mansion in a female-dominant dynasty, the young empress personally issued a decree allowing Gu Sui to select his Wife-master through martial arts competition. Whoever could defeat him could marry him.

Gu Sui: “……”

He didn’t inherit the original owner’s martial prowess, so anyone could defeat him! And what the hell is a Wife-master?

Forced to come to Jade Dew Pavilion, the densely packed women below made Gu Sui’s agoraphobia act up, and his face was full of resistance.

Until he saw the Regent sitting on the second floor, with a smile on the corner of her lips, her eyes wicked and nonchalant.

Hmm… she looked a little familiar.

It turned out that the Regent also found him a little familiar.

Mu Jiulu fiddled with her bone clasp, her deep gaze locked on the man who was out of place in this world.

“Finally, I found you.”
