Seeing Kian fall asleep, I headed toward Sikar’s study, only to find servants sniffling as they came out from the corridor.

The servants bowed to me while choking back tears, then hurried away down the hall.

I stood there, watching until they disappeared completely at the end of the corridor—my neck practically stiff from staring.

‘They must’ve been scolded badly. Seeing them cry like that doesn’t feel like someone else’s problem.’

Just as I was thinking this, Sikar suddenly grabbed my hand as if ambushing me.

Does this guy really not know how to talk properly? Why grab my hand first instead of speaking—does he even know how to have a conversation?

I wanted to protest, “Didn’t I ask you to get my permission before holding my hand?” But since I hadn’t followed his instructions, I had no choice but to stay tense as he read my memories.

The sound of my own swallowing echoed loudly in my ears.

The maids coming up the corridor saw Sikar holding my hand and, exclaiming “Oh dear, oh dear! Sorry!” repeatedly, quickly scurried back down the stairs.

‘Hey! This isn’t the romantic scene you’re imagining—it’s straight-up horror!’

Judging by Sikar’s increasingly stern expression, he must have seen everything—including my claim that I’m not Kian’s birth mother.

I’d already steeled myself for this. Don’t flinch. Absolutely don’t flinch!

So I stared defiantly at Sikar, as if asking, “Are you going to kill me now?”—though from his perspective, my expression probably didn’t come across exactly as I’d intended.

“Do you think I’ll go easy on you just because you’re making that pitiful face? Why didn’t you listen to me?”

“Because lies that defy natural bonds always come with consequences.”

“I didn’t quite catch that. Say it louder.”

“Well… we’re family now, and telling lies that defy such bonds felt frightening… and also… I felt guilty…”

“You’re speaking in such a tiny voice, like a mosquito—afraid someone might overhear? Let’s go inside the room.”

It’s not about someone overhearing—it’s because I’m terrified of you!

Sikar entered the study, slammed the door shut, and made me sit on the sofa.

“Now, let’s have an honest conversation. Tell me why you did it.”

How many times have I explained this already?

“Even if we’re only family on paper, we’re still family. Lying to family feels wrong, and I didn’t want to deceive Kian with a falsehood that defies natural bonds. After all, I can still treat Kian like my own child without following your instructions to the letter.”

“What if someone else finds out?”

“No, that won’t happen. Right now, Kian doesn’t know anything yet, but once he starts receiving royal tutoring from Raydocs, he’ll quickly become sharp and clever—just like in the original story—and grow extremely cautious. He’s the protagonist, after all!”

Sikar stared at me wordlessly for a moment, then slowly moved his lips.

“You surely understand that if your plan suffers even the slightest setback, you’ll be the one to bear all the consequences. I’ll keep watch for now.”

I’d feared he might push for another violent confrontation, but surprisingly, Sikar handled the situation with unusual flexibility. Only then could I finally breathe a sigh of relief.

“It’s late today. Tomorrow, I’ll formally introduce Kian to Grandmother and have him officially registered in our family register.”

“Understood…”

“And.”

Sikar dropped these words, then looked at me with even deeper intensity.

“It was very wise of you to tell Kian he doesn’t have to call me ‘Father’ yet. In fact, instruct him not to call me that for now. I doubt I’d find it particularly pleasant to hear ‘Father’ from someone who intends to kill me.”

He still sees Kian as the protagonist destined to kill him. It seemed even more urgent now to change Sikar’s perception of Kian—

not as a child out to kill him, but as the one who would lift his curse.

To do that, I’d need to secure a nanny first.

“Sikar, please find a nanny for Kian right away.”

Sikar ran a hand through his hair and regarded me with a languid gaze.

“A nanny… good idea. We’ll entrust him to Vika.”

“V… Vika? You’re entrusting Kian to a dark elf…?”

This man! Even if Kian isn’t your biological son, how could you hand him over to a dark elf?

“To be precise, Vika is only half-blood. More importantly, she’s the perfect candidate—there’s no one else I’d trust more with Kian’s safety and education.”

“But Vika’s a dark elf! What if she raises Kian wrongly?”

“She’ll raise him strong—just as a protagonist should be.”

“No! Absolutely not! Not Vika!”

Sikar looked at me with utter indifference, as if my words hadn’t even reached his ears.

“If we must assign a nanny for Kian’s safety, it has to be Vika.”

“But isn’t assigning Vika precisely what endangers Kian’s safety?”

“If Kian becomes my son, Vika won’t be able to harm him—so you can rest easy on that front.”

But dark elves are different from white elves. They share only the name “elf”…

Chapter 115 Chapter 114

Where white elves pass, flowers bloom; where dark elves pass, flowers wither. If white elves symbolize life, dark elves embody death.

Who knows how deeply she might raise the child in darkness!

I wasn’t entirely sure whether Vika could interfere so thoroughly with Kian’s mental state, but I still couldn’t feel completely at ease.

Would Vika really do a good job? I felt uneasy.

“We’ll entrust Kian to Vika starting tomorrow. And you’ll resume your etiquette lessons from tomorrow as well.”

“Understood. Then I’ll learn from Vika too.”

“You seriously think Vika knows anything about etiquette?”

“Then… I’ll learn from Grandmother…”

“You want me to confess to Grandmother that I married a woman who knows nothing of etiquette?”

“Ah—then maybe Durion?”

“That man is the least cultured of them all.”

Between Vika and Durion—both villains—it wasn’t surprising they lacked refinement.

It was frustrating, but in this den of villains, even if I searched with the clearest eyes, the only one who could teach me etiquette was Sikar himself.

The next day, I woke up early, dressed Kian neatly, and briefly taught him how to address and greet Grandmother. To my delight, Kian picked it up quickly.

“And Kian, your surname is now Blake. When someone introduces you, you’ll be Kian Blake, taking the Duke’s family name.”

“But Father told me my surname was Recador. Can I not use it anymore?”

Seeing a hint of disappointment on Kian’s face, I gently patted his head.

“Kian, Father has good reasons for telling people not to mention your true surname. Until you’re grown, let’s keep that name a secret among our family—just between you, me, and the Duke. Understood?”

Kian didn’t seem to fully grasp my meaning yet, but he nodded obediently.

“Then let’s go see the Duke now. Don’t be too nervous, Kian.”

Though I said that, Kian didn’t seem particularly nervous around Sikar—more likely, it was I who felt the tension.

When we entered Sikar’s room, he was already dressed in formal attire, preparing to pay his morning respects to Grandmother.

He glanced at us once, then turned back to the mirror, adjusting his clothes with an indifferent expression.

Not knowing what to do, I whispered to the hesitant Kian.

“Kian, go ahead and greet him.”

Kian didn’t look thrilled, but with a resigned expression—as if thinking, ‘Fine, since you claim to be my father’—he bowed and spoke flatly.

“I hope you slept well last night, Your Grace.”

Sikar didn’t even acknowledge Kian’s greeting. After fiddling with his hair a few times, he turned and said,

“Today, I’ll register you in my family register. But first, you’ll pay your respects to Grandmother.”

Just recently, he’d seemed to make an effort—offering Kian congee and all—but now that registration was imminent, he’d reverted to his usual self.

Sikar himself probably needed to start parenting lessons anew from today.

I’d endure etiquette lessons; he’d endure parenting lessons. It was obvious which would be harder, so a faint smile crept onto my lips.

It was a smile of vindication—relieving the pain of etiquette lessons through his parenting struggles.

Unaware of this, Sikar assumed my smile meant I was pleased just from looking at his face.

“I see you’re in a good mood just from looking at my face this early in the morning, but stop smiling. When greeting Grandmother, you must be dignified and composed.”

I stilled my smile into a gentle, serene expression, took Kian’s hand, and entered Grandmother’s room.

Grandmother was already seated elegantly on the sofa, clearly having received word of our arrival.

Seeing her, Kian—perhaps startled by her unfamiliar presence—gripped my hand tightly.

He glanced at my face, and when I nodded, he resolutely offered his greeting.

“Ah… hello, Grandmother.”

But due to nerves, he seemed to have forgotten everything I’d taught him moments earlier and trembled visibly.

“Kian, you should call her ‘Great-Grandmother.’”

Kian nodded understandingly and carefully offered his greeting again.

“Ah… hello… Great-Grandmother. My name is Kian.”

“My, what a clever-looking child. He’s just like young Sikar!”

Though Kian didn’t actually resemble Sikar, Grandmother’s words suggested he reminded her fondly of Sikar’s childhood.

“Kian, would you like to sit on Grandmother’s lap?”

I was relieved Grandmother seemed to adore Kian more than I’d hoped, though I worried Kian still found her intimidating.

Kian looked at me questioningly—as if asking whether he should or had to—and I nodded again.

Kian gave me a small, sweet smile, then hurried over to Grandmother. Maids helped lift him onto her lap.

Seeing Kian nestled in Grandmother’s embrace brought back warm memories of my own childhood in her arms—it looked so comforting.

The love received from a grandmother is different from parental love, and knowing Kian would experience that too filled my heart with tenderness.

“Our Sikar grew up so fast that this lap was taken over by Happy. But now, Happy has become a star in the sky, and my lap has been empty ever since.”

Kian, who’d been sitting awkwardly, suddenly perked up with wide eyes.

“Great-Grandmother, what’s Happy?”

“Our family’s dog.”

“A dog? I’ve never seen one up close…”

“Really? Then once this old lady recovers, shall we raise a puppy together?”

Hearing Grandmother was unwell, Kian’s face fell—completely missing the part about raising a puppy.

“Are you sick, Great-Grandmother…?”

Grandmother gazed at Kian with affectionate eyes. Perhaps she truly saw young Sikar in him.

“I’m receiving treatment—I’ll be well soon.”

“That’s good! Great-Grandmother!”

“Kian, whenever you want to read fairy tales or take a nap, feel free to use this old lady’s lap any time.”

How much of Grandmother’s warmth could Kian truly perceive? Regardless, he beamed with visible joy.

“I’d love that! Great-Grandmother!”

Grandmother turned to me with a genuinely delighted, gracious, and dignified smile.

“What a truly lovely child.”

“Thank you, Grandmother.”

“Kian, now go sit on your father’s lap once.”

Those words from Grandmother shattered the peaceful atmosphere like a bucket of cold water—especially for Sikar and Kian, who looked as if struck by lightning.

“Sikar, what are you waiting for? Kian is your son now. As his father, you must show your best effort in raising him. Surely you realize your awkwardness around the child could wound Yura?”

Grandmother’s meaning was clear: since Sikar married me, he must accept Kian—my biological son—as his own.

This felt suspiciously like Sikar had just fallen into his own trap.

Unable to resist, I shot Sikar a wickedly amused smile.

‘Didn’t I tell you? Lies always come with consequences.’

Regret With All Your Might (Completed Main Story)

27/12/2025
Side Story 5 Side Story 4

Male lead is a Divorced Husband

She said to him: “Tell me, what makes you like me? I’ll change it!”

Liu Changning transmigrated into a female cannon fodder character in a female-dominant novel.

After reading the first half of the novel’s plot, the first thing she did upon transmigration was to divorce the Pan Jinlian-style male protagonist she had just married.

She indulged herself, pretending to be ugly and poor.

But as time passed, the way that man looked at her became more and more unusual…

Liu Changning was dumbfounded: Tell me, what makes you like me? I’ll change!

――

This lifetime, Pei Yuanshao was rejected by the same woman twice!

The first time, she drove him away. Forced by the situation, he endured the waves of anger in his heart, yielding and humbling himself.

That person lay slanted on a rocking chair, her sallow face emotionless: “If you don’t want a divorce, go cook!”

Pei Yuanshao’s face was dark and gloomy: “You!”

The second time, after the crisis in Jinling City was resolved, the new emperor sent someone to pick him up. He turned around, stammering: “I… I have to go. If you keep me…”

That person lay on the kang bed, her back to him, as if she had long anticipated this day, crisp and clear: “Goodbye!”

Pei Yuanshao was so angry his fingers trembled: “You… you!”

The mission of family and country made him restrain himself, averting his eyes and turning to leave this broken household.

Two years later, they met again. Seeing her ethereal face, his body shook like a sieve.

“She was originally a ‘she’!”

At the Qionglin Banquet, the top scholar of the imperial examination, a talented person with exceptional speech and conduct, all the unmarried young gentlemen from aristocratic families looked at her with shy and timid eyes.

The peerless imperial official Pei Yuanshao felt the anger in his heart erupt. He pointed at the woman surrounded by the crowd at the Qionglin Banquet, his thin lips slightly curled: “Little sister, I wants that person to be the wife-master of my Mingde Prince Manor.”
