His jaw slackened as he realized what was in his heart.

The fingers he’d been biting down on so hard slipped free. He looked at the teeth marks left on his fingers and let out a soft chuckle.

“It doesn’t even hurt. Do you think you could chew off my finger with this?”

Roxiana wanted to ask him.

Why go to such lengths just to keep me alive? Wouldn’t it be better for Torkan if I were dead? All I’ll bring is conflict with Gania—why bother saving a useless, burdensome woman like me at all costs?

But before she could voice her question, his fingers returned to her mouth—this time holding a grape.

The crushed grape slid from his finger onto Roxiana’s tongue and slipped down her throat. He kept his finger in her mouth to prevent her from closing it, feeding her one grape after another.

The tart and sweet fruit stirred her long-still stomach into motion. A faint trace of strength seeped back into her body, which had seemed moments from collapsing into the earth.

“Live, Your Highness.”

He looked down at her with solemn gray eyes.

“You must want to die. Life must feel meaningless. I understand—I truly do—but please, just live. Even if breathing feels unbearable and repulsive, if you keep pushing through, one good thing will happen, then another, and maybe something worth smiling about too. And someday, you’ll realize it was worth staying alive after all.”

“How…?”

Roxiana pushed his hand away with both of hers.

“How could you possibly know that?”

Her hoarse, broken voice rang out pitifully.

“How could you possibly know such things?”

Floyd stared silently at Roxiana, who struggled to utter even a few words without the strength to raise her voice in anger.

A breeze blew in—but not through the open window. It began from the closed bedroom door. Though it carried the air of Torkan, it held no trace of salt, slipping past Floyd’s hair again and again.

As if trying to strike in place of the powerless princess.

Floyd glanced briefly at the empty doorway, then turned back to Roxiana.

“I know. Even if no one else does, I understand. So please, Your Highness—just try to live.”

Roxiana’s face twisted in anguish. She grabbed his thick forearm with both hands, pulling his hand to her throat.

“I want to die, Your Highness. Truly, I do. Please, I beg you—anything you command, I’ll obey without complaint or reluctance. Just… if I die, throw me into that sea. Tie heavy stones to me so no one can ever recover my body.”

Floyd remained silent, gazing intently at her desperate plea. Oddly out of place in such a moment, he noticed the juice dribbling from the corner of her mouth.

He wiped it gently with his sleeve and said,

“Alright, Your Highness. If you’re willing to do anything, then yes—let’s make a deal.”

At last, a spark returned to her eyes, which had been fading into darkness.

Was there anyone else in the world who’d regain the will to live upon hearing they’d be allowed to die?

“But I don’t need your sword, your shield, or your sorcery. So let’s do something else.”

“What should I do, then?”

“Live.”

“…”

“Let’s live properly for just one year. Eat, sleep, take walks sometimes—live like a living person for exactly one year.”

Roxiana’s eyes wavered. Floyd thought they resembled trees in summer caught in a storm.

“Greet people when they speak to you, talk with them, go see plays sometimes, attend parties—just live for one full year. That’s all I ask of you, Your Highness.”

“Then… if I live like that for a year…”

“If after a full year of living that way you still want to die, I’ll kill you myself. I’ll bury you deep in that sea where no one can ever toss Adelia flowers onto your grave.”

“Are you truly serious?”

“I never lie, and I never make empty promises, Your Highness.”

Floyd’s stomach churned at the hope glowing in her eyes upon hearing she might be granted death, but he hid it and picked up an apple from the tray, splitting it in half and offering it to her.

“So eat, Your Highness. If you’re not well enough to stroll in the garden within a week, our deal is off.”

+++

Floyd stepped out of the bedroom with a hardened expression. Patria stood anxiously beside the untouched meal, which hadn’t yet been cleared away.

“Her Highness has finished eating—take that away.”

“Yes, Your Highness.”

“And…”

Floyd slowly surveyed the reception room.

“Summon the merchants and have the entire Lily Palace filled with Adelia flowers.”

Patria’s eyes widened at the unexpected command.

“Fill it with Adelia flowers…?”

“From the tapestries to the bedding, from the carpets on the floor to every single vase—carve or weave Adelia flowers into everything. So that wherever Her Highness takes her last breath, she may rest in God’s embrace.”

+++

Floyd had told her to live for just one year—to recover enough within a week to walk in the garden.

Roxiana clung desperately to that promise.

If only she could die without smelling the Adelia blossoms, she’d do anything. She’d been prepared to wield a sword, bear a shield, even become a sorceress serving him—so merely living seemed no hardship at all.

She had no appetite, but she soaked her bread in soup and ate. At first, she could barely swallow even a single piece of bread, but by the next meal she finished an entire loaf. Gradually, bit by bit, the amount she ate increased.

Sometimes, she felt nauseous, on the verge of vomiting—but she held it back, clamping her hands over her mouth and forcing the food down.

Patria finally felt relieved now that Roxiana was eating properly, but to Roxiana, each bite tasted like sand, like swallowing shards of iron.

After meals, she sat endlessly on her bed, staring out the window. Though the place was different and the air unfamiliar, the sky looked much like the one she’d seen from her bedroom in Idel Palace.

Gazing at the same sky as Khanta made her miss her family, but she no longer dreamed in her sleep. She longed to see them even in dreams, yet it seemed her family, denied God’s embrace, had no time to visit her—even in slumber—and each awakening plunged her into profound sorrow.

The thought of enduring this pain and despair for a whole year felt overwhelming, yet knowing she could die for certain after that year made it bearable.

“Lady Roxiana, your bath is ready.”

That morning, as usual, Roxiana had eaten only some soup and a piece of bread from the lavish spread and sat quietly on her bed. Until now, too weak to rise, she’d let Patria wipe her down with a damp cloth—but today, she’d said she’d bathe herself.

Dragging her heavy legs, Roxiana got out of bed. Outside the bathroom stood an unfamiliar maid, scowling as she held a towel.

“This girl will assist Lady Roxiana with her bath.”

“It’s alright.”

Roxiana took the towel from the maid.

“I’ll bathe alone. You don’t need to attend me.”

“But Lady Roxiana…”

“I’ll bathe alone.”

When Roxiana spoke firmly, the maid snapped at Patria,

“She said she’ll bathe alone—so we’re done, right?”

Annoyed at having to serve the palace’s unwanted guest, the maid seized the chance to whirl around and leave the room immediately.

Roxiana wanted to smile reassuringly at the flustered Patria, but she couldn’t recall how to—her facial muscles wouldn’t respond—so she simply entered the bathroom.

True to its status as a guest chamber, the bathroom was opulent. Walls, ceiling, and floor were all white marble, carved with intricate depictions of flowers, trees, and animals. A large bathtub bore a dolphin sculpture, from whose mouth water flowed steadily.

Beside the tub sat a small table and chair for light refreshments during a half-bath, and high windows set with stained glass cast multicolored sunlight onto the water’s surface.

Roxiana had never seen such a luxurious bathroom. Even the baths in Idel Palace in Khanta weren’t this splendid.

‘Torkan truly is wealthy.’

The southwestern region of the continent, now the Grand Duchy of Torkan—once known as Hwinasel—had been a barren wasteland. Fissures crisscrossed the land, spewing monsters and corrupting the soil with mana, rendering it utterly uninhabitable.

It was Floyd Laetean who had transformed this desolation into present-day Torkan.

‘The Crimson Panther who exterminates monsters.’

Even that title had been earned by annihilating the very monsters that had claimed this land.

Though terrifying, monsters yielded valuable byproducts, traded at exorbitant prices. Torkan’s rapid rise into a wealthy, influential power likely owed much to this.

Roxiana undressed and sank into the warm water of the tub.

‘What must it be like to face a monster?’

Roxiana had never seen a monster herself. She’d often heard knights recount battles against them—how even several well-trained knights found them formidable, employing strange and cunning tactics.

Monster tales frightened yet fascinated her, sometimes keeping her awake at night. Whenever she lay awake late, worrying aloud in the hallway about what would happen if a monster appeared, Robert, standing guard outside her door, would smile gently and say,

“Don’t worry, Your Highness. I’ll always be by your side—no monster will ever harm you.”

Side Story 5 Side Story 4

Male lead is a clingy little husband

One-line summary: The male lead is initially an arrogant, noble, love-deprived brat, later a cute, clingy, scheming little jealous one.

Introduction:

One day, Lu Yuner’s soul transmigrates into a female-dominant world. She enters the Imperial Academy and takes up the position of a doctoral instructor, teaching classes and grading schoolwork.

One day, she encounters the young prince Su Qingwan secretly skipping class from the male academy.

As a result, Su Qingwan is punished.

From then on, Su Qingwan sees Lu Yuner as a “thorn in his side”.

But before long, this “thorn” becomes the person he cherishes most, and he goes to great lengths to win Lu Yuner’s affection.

Mini scene 1:

One day, the sun is high in the sky but Su Qingwan still hasn’t gotten up for class.

Servant Xiaoyuan: “Young prince, it’s time for class. You’ll be late otherwise.”

Su Qingwan says arrogantly: “I’m not going. I am the esteemed prince, my status is so noble, why should I suffer this hardship? Besides, isn’t learning all this just to please women? Hmph, they’re not worthy!”

Mini scene 2:

After Su Qingwan falls for someone, he completely changes. He no longer skips class and diligently learns how to be a good husband and father. But he discovers that Sister Yuner is always surrounded by admirers.

Drunk and overcome with jealousy one day, he clings to Lu Yuner, crying beautifully like a pear blossom in the rain.

Su Qingwan: “Qingwan likes Sister Yuner.”

Lu Yuner: “Young prince, you’re drunk.”

Su Qingwan: “Qingwan isn’t drunk. Qingwan likes Sister Yuner, likes you so much, likes you to bits…” Before he can finish, Lu Yuner’s eyes flash with emotion and she leans in closer.

1. The female lead is gentle, gracious, humble and polite but not weak. The male lead is initially an arrogant, noble, love-deprived brat, later a cute, clingy, scheming little jealous one.

2. 1v1, a bit torturous in the beginning but definitely sweet later on.
