I Accidentally Imprinted On The Wolf Duke (Completed Main Story) - Chapter 5
“Yes! Do you have any instructions for me?”
Chloe turned her body and replied, watching Sir Joyce’s retreating figure disappear through the closing door with envious eyes.
“Assign the Information Guild commission to you.”
“Oh!”
She had reached a situation where she herself had to commission someone to find her.
“Yes! Understood. Then, I’ll be off as well.”
“But… are you feeling unwell?”
“Huh?”
Chloe’s voice cracked slightly.
It was a question she hadn’t anticipated at all.
Come to think of it, she’d been so tense she’d momentarily forgotten her own physical state.
Now that he’d asked, she suddenly became acutely aware of how sore her entire body felt.
In truth, it was fatigue accumulated from hurrying to the Duke’s mansion at dawn yesterday with a body that hadn’t yet recovered.
But had her poor condition really been noticeable enough for the Duke himself to catch?
“Your complexion looks bad. You also seem somewhat uneasy.”
No matter how pale she looked, was it flattering, burdensome, or even frightening that the Duke had noticed and was expressing concern?
“Oh, it’s just that I’m a bit tired after returning from vacation at my hometown.”
Because on the last day of vacation, you wore me out, Your Grace. All night long.
“Oh! Right. Didn’t you say your hometown is far?”
It is. It’s Bergene.
Thinking of her hometown, she realized Sir Joyce would soon be traveling all the way to Bergene to look for her.
“Klein?”
Snapped back to attention by the Duke calling her name again, Chloe replied.
“Yes. It’s rather far.”
“Where exactly?”
They’d hardly ever spoken face-to-face, let alone exchanged such personal conversation before—so why today, of all days, had he noticed her condition and started asking such detailed questions?
For the past three months, she and the Duke had maintained nothing more than a strict employer-servant relationship.
The Duke had never shown particular interest in his servants’ private lives nor asked personal questions.
Well… not entirely never.
When she’d requested to take four consecutive days off—having saved up a month’s worth of weekends without rest—he’d granted permission after she mentioned her hometown was distant and her mother was unwell.
He must’ve remembered that conversation.
“It’s Bergene.”
Chloe answered half-resignedly.
After all, it was already common knowledge among Sir Joyce and the Duke’s staff that she came from Bergene—and even when she’d first been hired as a servant under the name Klein, correspondence had been sent to her family’s address in Bergene.
Of course, she’d never disclosed anything about family relations beyond her mother.
After all, having impersonated her twin brother Klein to secure employment, revealing she had a twin sister would have been far too risky.
Now that she thought about it, the Duke truly was as generous a master as his reputation suggested.
He’d even given her additional funds upon hearing her mother was ill.
Thanks to that money, she’d been able to stay each time at “Dog and Cat’s Night.”
She’d traveled straight there in one grueling day, but on the return trip, she’d stopped there to prepare herself mentally and physically.
She’d been grateful for that money—yet now it seemed that very money was chaining her down.
Because staying there had led to the incident with the Duke.
He’d been such a good master.
Soon, because of this good master, she’d either be chased out buried under debt—or, in the worst case, branded a fraud and thrown into prison.
“Bergene… I see. And how is your mother, whom you mentioned was unwell?”
“She’s still the same.”
“I see. Do you resemble her?”
“Huh?”
“Is your mother beautiful?”
“Huh?”
Trending
“Hmm. For a man, you’re a bit…”
“…”
The conversation was taking a strange turn.
“Hem! You may go.”
The Duke suddenly cleared his throat, straightened his expression, and spoke firmly.
“Yes!”
Chloe quickly darted out.
He’d gone from asking whether her mother was beautiful to saying “for a man, you’re a bit…”?
A vague sense of dread crept over her.
She needed to ask Sir Joyce what the Duke intended to do once he found the woman.
It was only a matter of time before she was exposed.
[This is the timeline separator]Hughgray sat with his head bowed, both hands clutching his temples.
He’d clearly gone mad.
At a time when he should be urgently seeking out his imprint partner himself, his mind was entirely fixated on that servant, Klein.
He’d truly lost his mind completely.
He’d even assigned Klein the Information Guild errand just to spend a bit more time with that servant—and now he was regretting having burdened the tired boy with unnecessary work!
While listening to Joyce’s report, he’d been so distracted by Klein’s faint scent and expression standing slightly behind that he hadn’t been thinking straight.
This was undoubtedly the side effect of imprinting.
Quickly, quickly!
He had to find the woman as soon as possible.
The only way to calm this chaotic hormonal storm was to locate his imprint partner and regain stability.
[This is the timeline separator]The moment Chloe stepped out of the Duke’s room, she dashed straight toward the mansion entrance. The Duke’s estate was so vast it might as well be called a castle, and since the Duke’s chamber was on the fourth floor, she had to run breathlessly all the way to the front gate to catch Sir Joyce.
“Sir Joyce! Sir Joyce!”
Fortunately, Sir Joyce hadn’t departed yet—he was just about to mount his horse.
“Oh, what is it?”
Sir Joyce turned to look at Chloe as he gripped the reins.
“I need to find the woman through an Information Guild—do you know which guild would be most suitable? I thought it best to commission the most capable one.”
Of course, the Information Guild was merely an excuse to detain Sir Joyce.
“Ah, if it’s the Information Guild you seek, go to Lusiel. They’re the fastest and most accurate.”
“Oh, Lusiel…”
“Then, good luck.”
“Sir Joyce!”
Panicked, Chloe called out again as Sir Joyce immediately attempted to mount his horse once more.
“What is it? More questions?”
Sir Joyce frowned slightly as he looked down at Chloe.
“In truth, as the Duke’s personal attendant, I’m also a bit curious myself. I feel I ought to know enough not to upset His Grace.”
“What exactly are you asking?”
“I mean… what does His Grace intend to do once he finds the woman he shared a bed with?”
“…?”
Sir Joyce stared fixedly down at her.
“Oh, it’s just that, as his attendant, I should be prepared for what comes next…”
“You don’t need to know. Just do your utmost to keep His Grace comfortable. Though he appears perfectly fine on the surface, inside he’s anything but.”
“…?”
“To think His Grace was caught by such a unheard-of person… It’s unimaginably distressing.”
A person?
“Caught?”
Caught—as if it hadn’t been entirely consensual…
“Of course! His Grace would never willingly give himself to such a woman! You know that as well as I do—His Grace would never behave that way toward a woman.”

Well, why wouldn’t he—oh!
Suddenly, the hazy beginning of that night’s incident snapped into crystal-clear focus.
The dimly lit corridor.
Her senses overwhelmed by an inexplicable heat and strange impulses—perhaps from alcohol—she’d spotted the Duke stepping out into the hallway.
The Duke frowning upon seeing her.
Her body moving toward him without her conscious will.
The Duke stepping back to avoid her, trying to retreat into his room again.
She’d followed him inside before the door could close, throwing herself into his arms.
The Duke’s desperate, near-pleading cries struck her head like a massive boulder.
That was right. The Duke had rejected her.
With desperate eyes and voice.
Yet it was she who clung to him even more desperately…
She wanted to die.
It was clear now.
She’d launched a full-on physical assault on the Duke despite his refusal—and somehow, for reasons unknown, the Duke had eventually surrendered, transforming completely afterward. Not just changed—turned into a beast.
But one thing was certain: before becoming that beast, he had rejected her.
“If it were up to me, I’d catch that woman and tear her limb from limb… Hmm! No, of course I couldn’t actually dispose of her myself.”
Sir Joyce muttered to himself, then, as if just remembering Chloe standing before him, looked back at her.
His eyes still burned with unquenched fury—as if he truly intended to kill the woman once found.
Tearing her apart, disposing of her, using such violent words…
Was sleeping with the Duke truly such a capital offense?
Her very life now felt threatened.
What Chloe feared was being exposed for having concealed her gender to secure employment.
Of course, sleeping with the Duke was awkward enough—but consensual relations between man and woman weren’t unheard of. She couldn’t understand why he’d react as though the world had ended just because they’d shared a bed.
“W-well… I suppose so?”
But in the end, Chloe could only offer this feeble response—the gravity in Sir Joyce’s expression left her no other choice.
Fortunately—or perhaps unfortunately—Sir Joyce’s expression softened slightly.
“Nothing can be done. It’s already happened and cannot be undone. Regardless, please take good care of His Grace. I’m counting on you.”
“Yes…”
Chloe barely managed a reply, struggling hard to steady her trembling voice.
Leaving Chloe behind, Sir Joyce departed.
Why was Sir Joyce so furious about the Duke’s affair?
Watching Sir Joyce ride away, Chloe sank into deep thought.
Was it because the Duke’s purity had been stolen? Just how important could purity really be? Besides, it wasn’t as if it were Sir Joyce’s own purity. Ah—could it be that the Duke was a strict purist?
After all, she’d glimpsed a flash of fear in the Duke’s expression as he’d stepped back to avoid her.
Considering how fiercely the Duke had always avoided women, it wasn’t entirely unreasonable.
Then… had she truly ruined the Duke?
Yet compared to Sir Joyce, the Duke himself seemed far calmer.
Sir Joyce’s warning echoed in her ears.
Then again, the Duke wasn’t the type to openly reveal his emotions.
What should she do?
Now even her true name, “Chloe,” had been revealed.
Beyond the money, judging by the atmosphere, she sensed it wouldn’t end there.
She had a premonition that she’d have to “take responsibility” for something she’d done to the Duke.
Judging by current indications, that “something” was likely his purity—but there might be more to it, and it remained entirely unclear just how one “took responsibility” in the first place.
Thus, there was truly only one conclusion left.

When scheming men desperately battle for her favor in the male harem

This one’s also on my reread list! The rivalry, scheming between the men in the imperial harem are just as intense and thrilling as in classic palace drama novels, where concubines fight to the death. Give it a read, girls! I promise you won’t be disappointed.
Synopsis:
“I am not worthy of her… but I still want to be by her side, even if only as a loyal dog…”
Those were the painful whispers of Yue Guanyi – the proud Crown Prince of the Great Qi, who was torn between deep love and a guilty conscience. Despite holding the supreme power of the Imperial Guard, he still could not forget the dark past when he was sold into a brothel.
Fate played a cruel twist when Qiu Shuzhi – a young female official who had just passed the imperial examinations with top honors – stepped into his life. She did not know that she was the one who had saved him from a tragic fate many years ago. And now, her heart was the target of pursuit for both Yue Guanyi and the powerful Empress Dowager Qin Qing.
While Yue Guanyi only dared to silently care for and protect the one he loved from afar, the Empress Dowager Qin Qing openly expressed his feelings and did not hesitate to take advantage of his power to approach Qiu Shuzhi. The covert struggle between the two most powerful forces in the imperial court began…

Artemtisforaday
I understood why she wanted to keep her identity hidden at first (because of the money issue) but now I understand why she wants to run away. Sir Joyce just made it seem like her very life is in danger from the Duke!
