Chloe, who had prepared the tea, carefully glanced at the Duke’s expression.

“I-I’ll go out now, then.”

“Come drink with me.”

The Duke moved to the sofa in front of the table as he spoke.

“No, how could I possibly dare to drink with Your Grace.”

“It’s an order.”

“…Yes.”

Chloe tightly clenched her molars and cautiously sat down on the very edge of the sofa opposite the Duke, barely resting her hips.

“Since when?”

“Pardon?”

Just as she was about to bring the teacup to her lips after pouring the tea, the Duke’s sudden question made Chloe set the cup back down.

“You heard me. Since when?”

“Um…”

So he hadn’t believed her earlier, but he’d actually been bothered by it all along. He must be growing even more eager to get rid of her now.

Answering the question wasn’t difficult at all.

After all, part of it was true.

“I fell for you the moment I first saw you.”

“…”

“The very first moment I saw you as your personal attendant, I fell for you at first sight.”

“…Ha!”

The Duke let out a slightly mistimed, delayed scoff and set his teacup down with a sharp ‘thud’.

“I’m referring to the woman you slept with. I asked when you started seeing her. Stop with these absurd lies.”

If only you’d stop imagining that ridiculous notion of me meeting a woman, I could stop telling these embarrassing lies too.

“It’s not a lie. Ever since that first moment, I’ve been utterly captivated by you.”

“You sound so brazenly confident it sounds even more like a lie. What woman confesses her love with such shameless audacity?”

Woman? What is His Grace even talking about?

“But I’m not a woman.”

“Ah!”

The Duke suddenly gulped down his tea.

Watching the Duke flustered in a way that didn’t suit him at all, Chloe mulled over his words.

Confident and shameless, was she? Should she act more shyly next time?

But it wasn’t entirely a lie that she’d fallen for him. It felt unfair.

The Duke’s appearance was enough to make not only Chloe but anyone fall for him.

Naturally, even Chloe herself, upon first seeing him, had thought, *Is there really a man in this world who looks like this?*—so strikingly real was the legendary beauty she’d heard about.

Yet even amidst that visual shock, Chloe was fully aware that she was merely a male-disguised attendant who had to earn money, and that the perfect man before her eyes was her master.

She didn’t have the luxury of indulging in idle admiration that didn’t suit her situation.

Fortunately, thanks to her upbringing, she also had a certain immunity to handsome men.

Take her twin brother Klein, who wasn’t even here now—if anything, despite being small-framed and somewhat frail, he was objectively quite handsome.

Klein, born just a few minutes before Chloe and thus her older brother, had always been smaller than his younger sister throughout childhood, as was typical for firstborn twins.

After fully growing up, his final height and frame were larger than Chloe’s feminine build, yet still slighter than the average man.

Though his delicate build for a man might have given him complexes, Klein cheerfully boasted about his beauty every day with lines like this—though whether it was genuine pride or self-mockery remained unclear.

But brother was still brother, so rather than agreeing with the objective assessment of his handsomeness, Chloe had always just thought of him as an annoying narcissist.

Anyway, her deepest-rooted immunity surely came from having grown up watching her gentle and beautiful older brother.

But an even stronger immunity had come, not from her blood-related brother, but from Carcus.

The day she first met Carcus and their eyes met, she’d thought he was a puppy doll—his fluffy golden hair like soft puppy fur and his rare golden eyes so lovely she’d wanted to stroke his face.

Moreover, he was kind, courteous, cheerful, and thoughtful—the kind of man whose heart was as beautiful as his face.

Compared to him, the Duke was…

Well, he couldn’t exactly be called “pretty.”

Yes, that word simply didn’t suit the Duke at all.

His sharp, chiseled jawline, his disciplined and seemingly ascetic lips, his straight nose, and his stern hazel eyes.

Chapter 115 Chapter 114

How startled she’d been the first time she met those hazel eyes.

It had felt like gazing into a deep blue lake so profound she couldn’t fathom its depths. Though his actual gaze was coldly indifferent, strangely, the color itself had felt warm.

Though always hidden beneath a shirt buttoned to the very top of his neck, his body—its lines nonetheless sharply perceptible—

was, in fact, precisely to her taste.

Despite standing well over 190 cm tall—a height imposing enough to be intimidating—his frame appeared more slender than massive, as if finely crafted from layers of delicate, lean muscle.

It wasn’t “pretty.” It was bewitchingly beautiful.

And his hair? Normally neatly styled, his dark brown hair gave off a mature yet oddly sensual aura—but right after waking, it would naturally fall across his forehead, lending him a boyish charm.

Of course, this boyish charm was a hidden allure only visible to Chloe, his attendant, unknown to others.

It had taken her nearly a month to adapt to the Duke’s astonishing beauty and keep her heart from racing.

Now, unfortunately, because she had to act as if she liked him, she had to revive those buried feelings of admiration. Though, looking at that face, it didn’t seem too difficult.

“What are you doing now?”

“Pardon?”

“Why are you staring at me so intently?”

She must have been gazing too openly.

“It’s because I like you, Your Grace, so I can’t help but keep looking.”

Releasing the reins of her heart, which she’d pulled so tightly, Chloe boldly spilled out these embarrassingly sweet words. At this point, even she was starting to lose track of whether this was acting or real feeling.

Well, that face at least—no, his body was quite nice too.

“How about becoming an actor instead of a personal attendant once you leave my house? You seem shamelessly good at this.”

“It’s not acting…”

Why did he keep thinking it was acting? She was completely sincere about the Duke’s face and body.

Even if the confession of affection itself was an act, she could always fall for his looks all over again.

“Klein Reeden, no matter how much you try, I’m not easily fooled. Even if you keep hiding and holding out, I’ll soon find that woman.”

“…”

Not fooled, huh? That woman is sitting right in front of you right now.

As a man.

“Enough acting. Just drink your tea.”

“Oh, yes. I will.”

Chloe hurriedly lifted her teacup.

“Ah!”

Her tongue burned sharply from the hot tea.

It had been a while since the hot water was poured—why was the tea still so hot? The Duke’s teacup must be so high-quality that the water simply refused to cool.

“Are you alright?”

The Duke frowned as he looked at Chloe.

“You should be more careful.”

“Oh! Yes.”

Chloe felt uneasy, worried she’d annoyed him with her fussiness.

“I’m sorry.”

“What are you sorry for? Shall I get you some ice…?”

He stopped mid-sentence and fell silent. Chloe stared at him with wide eyes.

Was he annoyed?

“Go out.”

The Duke abruptly stood up from his seat.

“Yes!”

Chloe immediately rose as well.

She hadn’t even taken a single sip of tea.

As expected, he hadn’t been concerned for her at all. He’d just found her fussiness irritating.

Afraid of further offending the Duke, Chloe dashed out as fast as she could.

As soon as Klein left, Hughgray went to the window and stood there for a long while in the cold wind before returning to his desk and pulling out Klein’s documents again.

– Age: 21

Twenty-one years old.

Hmm…

Younger than expected—barely an adult.

Then again,

his thick glasses covering half his face and his heavy bangs hanging down to his forehead made it hard to judge his age or even discern his true features clearly.

What would his face look like without the glasses and with his bangs pushed back?

Hmph! What does it matter what his face looks like? It’s probably frail and weak. With his slight frame and small, pale face, he hardly resembled a grown man.

– Address: Mount 5, Boergen Beikin Road

– Family Relations: Mother (Charlotte Reeden), Younger Sister (Chloe Reeden)

Chloe Reeden, Chloe…

Was it really true that his younger sister had died?

It seemed unlikely he’d lie about a family member’s death—but there was something suspicious about this fellow.

– Notable Details: Fluent in Tigrimum Kingdom language

– Physical Stats: 172 cm, 63 kg

Come to think of it, how does a commoner from Boergen speak the Tigrimum Kingdom language?

He’d need to look into that.

And 172 cm? 63 kg? That can’t be right.

172—that’s a lie too. He’d said 168 before. And he didn’t look taller than that in person.

Plus, 63 kg? With that frail body? He probably didn’t even weigh 60.

He vaguely recalled thinking on their first meeting that the boy was unusually small for a man, but he’d never considered it closely.

He’d simply thought his small size was convenient—less noticeable.

But 172 cm and 63 kg?

Though these numbers were already quite slight, judging by that boy’s appearance, even these figures seemed impossible.

So even his physical stats were falsified.

Why?

Did he inflate his measurements slightly just to get hired?

But even so, why would anyone fabricate such precise numbers for a lie that would be instantly obvious upon seeing the real person?

He’d kept such a thoroughly suspicious fellow as his personal attendant—and was still employing him as one even now.

While it was true that this boy had taken the Ulphaz Dukedom lightly, the personnel management itself had clearly been terribly lax.

Hughgray clicked his tongue in renewed frustration at the state of House Ulphaz.

After his parents’ early deaths, as the new head of the house, he’d left all staff management to the butler and Wilson.

They’d been serving since his father’s generation, after all.

There had never been major issues or scandals.

Yet inevitably, without a mistress of the house, vulnerabilities were bound to appear.

Even in his mother’s time, she’d shown no interest in household matters—only a desire to escape the estate.

With a fresh wave of regret, his eyes moved to the next entry.

– Guarantor: Carcus Takan.

– Co-signer: Thais Borhe (Lord of Boergen)

So the Lord of Boergen co-signed for him.

But this name…

Carcus Takan. Carcus… That name sounded oddly familiar.

Carcus, Carcus, Carcus.

Ah! That’s the one.

Side Story 5 Side Story 4

Male lead fell into her trap — and shattered when she walked away

This is also on my reread list!

This one is a slow burn, but when it burns, it burns hard.

Definitely worth a read, y’all!

The story follows a thousand-year-old seductive spirit who, on a bet, sets out to charm the male lead—a once-promising but unfortunate cultivator.

But just when she succeeds in making him fall for her, she heartlessly leaves, driving him to madness.

Determined to find her at all costs, he captures her, keeping her by his side no matter what, even if she hates him.

I love this kind of trope—I enjoy watching the male lead suffer in agony.

The ending drags a bit with unnecessary filler, but that’s fine.

As long as I enjoy the beginning, I’m good.

Intro

As an enchantress, Su Heng possesses captivating eyes and charming beauty, easily manipulating the joys and sorrows of living beings at her fingertips.

But to enchant a god, making him taste the bitterness of love’s separation, long-lasting resentment, unattainable desires, and inability to let go…

Do you dare?

Su Heng assists a divine lord in his cultivation, aiming to make him experience all the sufferings of love, so that he can attain the Great Dao.

Only after being chased down from the heavens by the divine lord, confined and completely possessed by him, does she realize how successful she has been.

The once gentle and polite youth has transformed into someone she no longer recognizes.

At this point, the Duke is willfully not realizing his “male” servant is a woman. He figured out that Carcus is probably the missing prince just based off of the name but can’t figure out his male servant is actually a female?

Also, will the Duke feel bad making her do all this servant stuff once he finds out who she is?
