The moonlight faintly illuminated the early hours of dawn.

Adeline slowly opened her eyes. Carefully lighting the candle on the nightstand, she got out of bed.

She quietly left the bedroom, taking care not to wake the sleeping duke.

Walking down the corridor and descending to the study, Adeline immediately opened the desk drawer.

Inside lay the letter given to her by the innkeeper, still unopened.

At the bottom left corner of the paper was the familiar handwriting: “From your Heilo.”

Sitting at the study desk, Adeline carefully began to peel away the wax seal.

By the light of the candle she had brought, she started reading the letter line by line.

[To Del.

Del, why on earth did you suddenly run away? Do you even realize how shocked I was when I heard the news of your disappearance?

I’ve safely kept the jewels and metals you left at the place you told me about.]

[You asked me to wait, but seeing no word from you at all—I simply can’t endure it. You wouldn’t understand how my heart aches every night, keeping me from sleep.]

[I can’t stand it any longer. I’m coming to Horn.

I suppose I’ll see you on the last day of the month when summer ends. If you don’t send a reply, I’ll take that as your permission.
