The Duke never returned to Adeline’s side all night. Huddled in one corner of the bed, Adeline waited endlessly for him.
She could only wrap her trembling body tightly in her arms, consumed by unease. Right now, there was nothing she could do but wait.
As the long dawn passed, the morning sun had already risen.
Sunlight filtering through the window brushed against Adeline’s eyes. She jolted awake from a brief doze.
‘Where’s Mel?’
