Inside the moving carriage.
Adeline clenched her trembling hands and squeezed her eyes shut.
‘It wasn’t that I went back to get the seal.’
She had only wanted to retrieve the seal and find another way out somehow, yet now Adeline was helplessly being dragged away by the knights who had come to the villa.
“Please allow us to take care of your belongings. Kindly step into the carriage at once.”
She had just hastily slipped the seal into the small bag she was holding—and now even that had been taken from her.
‘It’s just a luggage bag; surely they won’t search through it?’
Adeline cautiously lifted the curtain inside the carriage.
‘One inside. Five outside.’
Through the window, she could see five knights. They’d sent so many just to apprehend a single woman. Adeline briefly contemplated escape before quickly giving up.
When first captured, she’d assumed the Marquis had finally found her and was utterly distraught. But the armbands on the surrounding knights belonged to House Torpeo.
“We have come to escort you. Please tell us what belongings you wish to bring, and we shall fetch them.”
Adeline recalled what had just happened. Though the knights maintained a respectful demeanor toward her, they left no opening whatsoever—clearly intent on preventing any chance of escape.
Adeline turned her gaze to the knight seated opposite her.

Ugh. I’m not liking his attitude toward her right now…. I hope he regrets his treatment of her later.
Seriously. If I were palace staff, I would have quit a LONG time ago. Why do these people stay only to get beaten up and killed?
Poor Adeline…. I know she lied and such, but she doesn’t really deserve the things that are coming her way… I hope the ML improves his attitude towards her soon!Ok. This Duke is pissing me off.
