The Only Healer, Ruela (Completed Main Story) - Chapter 8
“Are we really just going to let her go like that?”
Hazen asked with a displeased expression.
They had slipped out of the square immediately after finishing their conversation with Ruela and were now hiding themselves out of sight.
“Is there another way?”
Kite leaned against the wall of the inn where they were staying and replied with a relaxed expression.
“There isn’t. But we can’t just leave her like this. You don’t seriously think she can make it all the way to the capital alone, do you?”
“In her current state—rejected from the guild—we can’t offer her any help.”
“I know! But she doesn’t even have an attendant or a maid. Besides, she seems intent on walking, and it’d be too much for a noble lady who’s never walked more than a hundred meters without a carriage.”
Kite hesitated briefly before answering.
“It’s the path she chose herself.”
Hazen snorted disdainfully.
“You cold-hearted bastard. You do know thieves are running rampant everywhere these days, right? What if she dies? Don’t forget that the late Emperor of Elab and Senhui risked their lives to bring that girl back, and they don’t have much time left.”
Kite’s expression darkened. He looked toward the direction Ruela had gone and spoke in a heavy voice.
“I know that too. But you also know we can’t help her until a point of contact is established. That’s one of the many rules that come into effect when someone is summoned using ancient magic.”
As their argument threatened to escalate, Tien quickly interjected.
“Isn’t there some way? A way to help her without breaking the rules?”
Hazen turned to look at his cousin.
“Without breaking the rules?”
“Yeah. There must be a way.”
Hearing Tien’s words, Kite straightened up from leaning against the wall.
“There isn’t no way.”
Hazen’s eyes sparkled like a puppy’s as he asked,
“What is it? What way?”
“We follow her discreetly and deal with any dangers ourselves.”
Tien clapped his hands together in agreement with Kite’s suggestion.
“That’s a great idea! We’re heading that way anyway.”
“Right. We’re just coincidentally dealing with any threats that happen to appear ahead of us as we follow behind.”
At Hazen’s enthusiastic agreement, even Kite’s icy expression softened.
“We could also test that girl’s capabilities.”
But Hazen, who had been cheerfully agreeing just moments before, scoffed at Kite’s last remark.
“What capabilities does a healer have? You know perfectly well she’s useless without a tank or a damage dealer. What good would her healing skills do against attacking thieves? And she doesn’t even realize she’s gifted herself. Don’t get your hopes up.”
“It’s about observing how she acts when placed in danger. At the very least, we’ll get a sense of her grit and quick thinking.”
Having finished justifying his actions, Kite abruptly walked away toward the waiting servant, as if signaling the discussion was over.
Watching him go, Hazen muttered under his breath.
“Why not just say you want to help her? Why make up so many excuses?”
“Shh!”
Tien placed a finger to his lips, signaling quiet.
“If you make him angry, we’re the ones who’ll end up exhausted. Stop poking at him.”
Hazen pouted.
“You’re being way too rigid about rules and principles. In this harsh world—and especially in the corrupt Kingdom of Kuran, rife with bribery and injustice—is that really reasonable? You’d be better off taking after even half of your younger brother.”
“But what if you bring up His Highness? Kite is probably the most anxious of us all right now.”
Stung by his cousin’s sharp remark, Hazen’s expression deflated as he replied.
“Fine. I’ll be more careful from now on. Let’s hurry and follow her before the noble lady gets angry.”
In the forest on the way to the capital, Moel.
Kite, Hazen, and Tien were watching Ruela as she waved her hands through the air. She would occasionally stand blankly still, then suddenly dash off and crouch down as if she’d discovered something.
“What on earth is she doing?”
Hazen sighed, utterly baffled.
“She seems to be digging up plants?”
At Tien’s reply, Hazen flicked his cousin’s forehead in irritation.
“Of course I know that! What I mean is, why is she digging those up? They’re not even edible berries or anything. And she’s a noble lady who’s probably never gotten her hands wet—does she even know what she’s picking? What if she eats something poisonous and dies?”

“There must be a reason.”
Kite, who had been observing from a short distance away, spoke up.
“Since when did you become so lenient?”
Hazen narrowed his eyes suspiciously.
“What are you talking about?”
“The usual you would’ve run straight over and said something by now.”
“I guess you forgot we’re supposed to be following her secretly.”
It was the second day since they’d left Kamuin Village. Had they ridden horses, they could’ve reached the capital in half a day, even with occasional breaks.
But Ruela Romnin moved at a leisurely pace, deliberately avoiding villages with people as if she had all the time in the world.
“But she is heading toward the capital, right?”
“As long as she doesn’t overshoot it, the direction is correct.”
Having apparently gathered all the plants she wanted, Ruela Romnin started walking again. Kite began to follow but suddenly stopped short.
“That’s strange.”
“What is?”
“Where did the plants she just dug up go?”
“What are you talking about?”
Hazen asked, looking utterly confused.
“She’s dug up quite a few plants since we got here. You all saw it.”
“You’re right. Wait—she really is empty-handed now.”
Listening closely, they realized Ruela Romnin ahead of them was indeed carrying nothing. Hazen dashed to where she’d been standing, as if only just noticing.
“They’re not on the ground either. Then again, she wouldn’t have thrown away plants she worked so hard to gather.”
“Did anyone see her put them in a pocket or somewhere else?”
“No, I didn’t see that. She has no luggage, and her pockets aren’t bulging either.”
At Tien’s reply, Kite’s eyes sharpened.
“Why are we only noticing this now?”
“Because it didn’t seem important, so I didn’t pay any attention.”
Kite gazed at Ruela Romnin, who stood alone and still.
She’d let down her tightly pinned-up hair, which now fluttered in the wind. Her once-neat dress was wrinkled and stained with dirt and grass marks, and her feet had been bare since earlier.
“She’ll get cuts on her feet…”
Hazen gave him an incredulous look at Kite’s unintentional mutter.
“You worry about the strangest things. If you were that concerned, you should’ve just put her in a carriage from the start.”
“But we can’t break the rules.”
“So just make up a reasonable excuse.”
“What excuse? You try coming up with one.”
Under Kite’s sharp prompting, Hazen shook his head vigorously after a moment of thought.
“Ah, I don’t know, I don’t know. Forget it, okay?”
“Shh! Quiet.”
Kite covered Hazen’s mouth as Ruela suddenly placed a hand to her ear, listening intently.
Wondering what sound she might be hearing, Hazen strained his ears too—but aside from the chirping of insects and the rustling of branches in the wind, he heard nothing.
“Huh? Why’s she… Kite?”
In that instant, without even time to be surprised, Kite dashed after Ruela, who had suddenly let out a cheer and started running.
Thinking something must have appeared, Hazen and Tien had no choice but to follow the two in a flustered rush.
“What… Huh? What’s going on?”
Hazen, whose life had never involved physical exertion, asked Kite with a pale face from the rare exercise.
“She must’ve found a stream and ran toward it. It startled me too.”
Hazen only then realized, thanks to Tien’s explanation—he’d arrived first—that a clear stream flowed before them.
“Oh, really? Wait, how does she find things like this so easily without even a map? Let’s quench our thirst and wash up a bit.”
“Turn around.”
“What?”
“I said turn around.”

Wondering why, Hazen looked toward Ruela at Kite’s urging—just in time to see her lifting her skirt and stepping into the stream.
“Turn around!”
At Kite’s sharp command, Hazen immediately spun around, grumbling.
“Then why aren’t you turning?”
Kite, who’d been watching her splash water with her feet in the stream, turned abruptly with a guilty look at Hazen’s accusation.
“You keep scolding us, but you’re a stranger to Ruela Romnin too.”
After a brief pause, Kite replied,
“I know that well enough.”
While the two stood helplessly staring at the tree in front of them, Tien spoke up.
“Shall we get back on the road?”
“You! Why didn’t you turn around either?”
Hazen grabbed Tien’s ear, and Tien squirmed, trying to pull away while protesting.
“I just turned around now! Didn’t you hear the branch snap under my foot? Didn’t either of you hear it?”
“No, we didn’t. So what?”
“Don’t blame me just because your old ears couldn’t hear it! If I hadn’t checked, you’d have missed her without even realizing she’d left!”
Since Tien wasn’t wrong, Hazen released his ear—but gave him another light flick on the forehead.

Male lead Asks for a Divorce Every Day
It’s not often you come across a plot like this in the female-dominant genre — make sure to check it out!

This is a novel I’m planning to reread as well.
The male lead is strong, skilled in martial arts, and not the usual fragile type you often see in matriarchal novels.
Meanwhile, the female lead is a scientist—rational and logical. Even when she falls for the male lead, she doesn’t let her emotions cloud her decisions.
If you push through the first few chapters, you’ll gradually find the story really intriguing.
It has a mix of mystery, detective elements, and romance.
The author’s writing style is like crafting a puzzle—except they deliberately leave out a few pieces, making it hard to predict what happens next, yet keeping you hooked.
In the end, everything will come together and be explained.
One-sentence summary: Wife, stop playing with beakers and look at me!
In a laboratory accident, research scientist Zhu Wansheng accidentally travels to a matriarchal world. The original owner of the body is an eighteen-year-old only daughter of a wealthy rouge merchant, already married with a handsome young man.
Zhu Wansheng grins: Nice! She always said she was heaven’s favorite granddaughter. After a life of toil in her previous life, she can enjoy blessings in this one.
However, her joy lasts no more than three seconds as bad news arrives: the original owner’s family is about to go bankrupt, and her husband wants a divorce.
Even worse, she’s stuck with a research system full of restrictions.
Zhu Wansheng: ? Is this the destiny of a research dog?
——
Faced with this mess, Zhu Wansheng pours herself a bowl of wine to drown her sorrows. In her drunken haze, her husband arrives.
His figure is imposing, holding a long sword, with a dignified air that captivates Zhu Wansheng.
Gu Yingqing, however, looks at the alcohol-reeking Zhu Wansheng with undisguised disgust and coldly asks, “Divorce or not?” The intoxicated Zhu Wansheng mumbles vaguely, “I think… it’s not… it’s not… impossible!”
——
The next day, after sobering up, Zhu Wansheng is full of energy, rolling up her sleeves ready to make a big move. As for yesterday? She has no memory of it.
Zhu Wansheng is ambitious; a research dog fears nothing!
Upgrading rouge, extracting fragrances, producing perfumes, researching lipsticks… all shall bow to the power of modern technology!
The original owner’s dying rouge shop is revitalized. Her mother is pleased and with a wave of her hand, passes on the family business to her. As she takes control and her experimental results gain popularity, it’s the pinnacle of her life…
——
But there are always those who can’t stand to see her doing well. Jealousy, scheming, assassination attempts – they want nothing less than her life.
The person who has always kept his distance from her suddenly holds her tightly in his arms, eyes full of concern.
She is unharmed, but he falls into a pool of blood…
Zhu Wansheng feels guilty, “I can grant you one wish.”
Gu Yingqing tentatively circles his arms around her, carefully resting his head in the crook of her neck, pleading softly, “I regret it. Can we not divorce?”
Zhu Wansheng: ? When did I agree to a divorce?
[Small Theater]
The newly developed rouge is beautifully packaged, and Zhu Wansheng is eager to try it.
Gu Yingqing suddenly appears: “My lady, may I apply it for you?”
Cool fingertips lightly brush her lips. His Adam’s apple bobs as he leans in for a light bite.
Zhu Wansheng: ?
Gu Yingqing: It smells so good, I wanted to taste it…
On a warm spring day, Zhu Wansheng tries a new perfume: “Spring Night.” Gu Yingqing corners her against a wall.
Warm breath lingers on her neck.
“My lady, from now on, may I test the fragrances for you?”
