The Only Healer, Ruela (Completed Main Story) - Chapter 11
Gurgle.
At that moment, the hunger she’d momentarily forgotten came rushing back.
Moreover, the thought that she couldn’t buy anything made her thirst feel even worse.
When her stomach growled loudly once more, she sprang up from her seat.
She would no longer hesitate about joining the guild. In fact, she might have to cling to someone’s trouser leg and beg to be let in.
She checked the map to estimate the distance between her current location and the mansion.
Since the bustling district itself was situated right next to the royal palace and the noble residential area surrounding it, it wasn’t very far. She also noticed a blinking marker nearby indicating the completion point for the “Find the Information Bulletin Board” quest.
Even if money was useless, the experience reward was quite decent, so stopping by seemed like a good idea.
Ruela turned around and reentered the alley she’d just exited.
The information bulletin board was located near the central plaza, just up from the bakery she’d passed earlier.
As she stepped out of the dark alley into the shopping district, she saw the bakery owner coming out from across the street. The moment their eyes met, he quickly turned his head away. From that reaction, she felt certain he’d recognized her.
Trying not to panic, Ruela hurried her steps toward the plaza. The owner had clearly recognized her yet pretended not to—perhaps because, as she’d noticed earlier, people seemed full of resentment toward their superiors.
Anyway, seeing firsthand the consequences of her reckless wandering only made her more afraid.
She briefly considered just leaving without bothering with the bulletin board, but returning seemed even riskier.
Following the arrow indicated on her screen, she soon saw a crowd gathered in front of a notice board.
As she approached, a familiar notification sound chimed, and the quest completion message appeared.
She was curious what might be posted on the information board, but she had to turn away—the portrait of herself was visible even from a distance.
She checked the time displayed on her screen.
2:00 PM.
How long would it take to walk to the Perose mansion? She wanted to take a carriage, but she had no money and probably needed a kingdom ID as well.
Ruela sighed and started walking again in the direction the arrow pointed. If she kept overthinking and hesitating, she might end up spending the night on the street.
It had been sheer luck that she’d arrived safely in the capital without incident. But there was no guarantee that luck would hold tonight, and she figured it was only a matter of time before people recognized her.
“Where is she headed this time?”
Hazen tilted his head curiously.
They had been trailing Ruela Romnin since Kamun Village and were now hiding in the shadows of a nearby building, watching her.
“She’ll come to us.”
Kite answered as he put on the hat he’d been holding.
“How do you know?”
“She’s realized her situation—no reason to hesitate anymore. She’s a clever woman.”
At Kite’s reply, Hazen pouted.
“How do you know she’s clever? You kept eliminating dangers before they even got close, testing this and that.”
“I just wanted to get to the capital quickly because it was annoying. And if I say so, then it’s so—don’t argue.”
“Alright, alright. Got it. So what now? Do we keep following her like this?”
Kite signaled to Joseph, his waiting attendant, and replied.
“I’ll go ahead first. You come along with Miss Romnin.”
“‘Along with’? More like ‘follow behind,’ right?”
Kite ignored his friend’s protest and lightly mounted the horse Joseph had brought. Then, turning the horse’s head, he instructed,
“Stay alert the whole way and follow her closely. Remember, if anything happens, you won’t be safe either.”
Hazen watched Kite ride off without a backward glance after his one-sided announcement and gave a mischievous smile.
“The mansion’s right in front of her—why follow her around? What do you think, Tien?”
“I think it’s a very good call. Should I go buy some disguises?”
“Sure. Get something that won’t raise even a speck of suspicion.”
“Leave it to me.”
Tien confidently replied and dashed off toward the shopping district with his attendant.
Exactly thirty minutes later, in front of the Perose mansion.
“Thank you! I arrived comfortably thanks to your kindness.”
Ruela jumped down from the cart and offered her thanks.
The red-haired middle-aged woman who had given her a ride this far, along with the young man with a thick mustache who seemed to be her son, nodded and waved goodbye.
They’d bumped into each other by chance as Ruela was leaving the plaza with the information board, and seeing her in distress, they’d offered her a ride—making her journey to her destination easy. They’d even given her shoes upon noticing her bare feet when she sat down.
Unfortunately, neither of them seemed able to speak.

At first, she’d been suspicious. It was odd enough that they’d offer her a carriage ride after just a slight bump, and then start communicating through written notes.
But she’d also thought, what could possibly happen right here in the middle of such a busy district? She’d checked carefully to see if they recognized her, but they showed no such signs.
Though unwarranted kindness should be treated with caution, she used her exhaustion as an excuse to hop right into the carriage. And the result of that gamble was arriving at her destination quickly and comfortably.
“What are your names? If you tell me where you live, I’d like to repay your kindness someday when I get the chance.”
She asked earnestly, but the middle-aged woman wildly waved her hands and drove off without even looking back.
The two who had appeared so suddenly vanished just as abruptly when leaving. Ruela could only turn away with an awkward expression as she watched the carriage disappear.
‘They didn’t mean any harm…’
She wondered if they’d worried she’d cling to them for help instead of repaying the favor, given how shabby she looked. Or perhaps offering carriage rides was simply an ordinary, unremarkable act here?
Ruela shrugged off the strange feeling and approached the mansion.
“This should be the right place?”
As she lingered in front of the iron gate, a guard glared at her with a stern look. Not wanting to ask pointlessly while still uncertain, she opened her map to double-check her location.
“It seems right.”
Just to be sure, she looked again and spotted something resembling a nameplate next to the iron gate. Up close, red letters on a white background with a silver border clearly read “Perose.”
Now certain she’d found the right place, she walked over to the guard post beside the main gate and confidently stated her purpose.
“I’ve come to join the guild.”
“Miss, could you repeat that?”
The guard, who had been wary, asked back with a puzzled expression.
“Huh?”
Seeing the guard’s utterly confused reaction, Ruela let out an exaggerated laugh.
“Ohoho! I must have confused this place with somewhere else for a moment… Um, do two men—one with black hair and one with long blond hair—and a blond curly-haired boy live here by any chance?”
The guard’s gaze grew even stricter than before.
“Could you state precisely the name of the person you’re looking for?”
“Um… Kite, Ha…zen, Tee…n?”
“It’s Master Tien. And they’re not here.”
“What? That can’t be!”
She pulled the address from her cloak pocket and checked again.
“33 Lineon Street, right? Look, here it is.”
“The address is correct, but…”
The guard was scratching his head while looking at the note the knight had given him when—
“Oh! Zennon! She’s our guest!”
A man named Hazen suddenly appeared from somewhere and rushed over, calling out urgently. It was the same person who had introduced himself earlier as Bugilma. Out of breath from running, he continued,
“Miss Romnin, you’ve found the right place! Please come in.”
“Huh… huh… Welcome!”
Behind him, a boy named Tien also ran up and greeted her.
Something felt off.
“This is definitely the guild, right?”
Ruela asked in a low voice so the guard couldn’t hear. Seeing them arrive suggested this really was the guild mentioned in the note—but then why had the guard looked so bewildered when she mentioned the guild?
“Yes, it is. But as I mentioned before, we’re planning to establish a guild soon, so not many people know about it yet besides us. And you can speak freely in front of Zennon—he’s from Kuran, but his family has served as guards for the Perose household for generations.”
“Are you sure?”
“Absolutely. This Hazen doesn’t lie. You can trust me. We’re about to…”
Hazen quickly glanced around, searching for a name for their soon-to-be-formed guild, then spotted the mansion’s signboard.
“We’re going to establish the Perose Guild.”
Ruela looked at Hazen with a skeptical expression.
He looked so frivolous, flipping his hair back with that gleaming face—could she really trust him?
To be certain, Ruela asked once more.
“You’re definitely going to form it, right? It’s not like the Kuran royal family will refuse permission or anything?”
At her question, Bugilma smiled.
“What we intend to do requires no one’s permission.”
His answer was gentle yet firm—the carefree demeanor from just moments ago was completely gone. Her trust in him rose slightly. Besides, with nowhere else to go, she had no choice but to believe him.
Well, if they couldn’t form the guild after all, she’d deal with it then. For now, what she urgently needed was a place to fill her empty stomach and rest her weary body.
