The Only Healer, Ruela (Completed Main Story) - Chapter 3
Ruela followed Shuna out of the bedroom, lost in thought.
How long could she keep hiding the fact that she’d lost her memory?
Wait, but hold on—did she even need to hide it?
Though an odd premonition told her she mustn’t be found out, pretending as if it were some grand secret suddenly seemed ridiculous.
“Shuna.”
She almost decided to honestly reveal her situation, but hesitated.
After all, having acted perfectly fine until now, suddenly claiming she’d lost her memory would surely seem strange.
Since things had come to this, she’d need to fabricate an incident that could plausibly cause memory loss and use it as an excuse.
Ruela entered the dining room and sat at the empty table.
She was alone again, just as she had been yesterday. This wasn’t a haunted house—why was she always the only one here? Had everyone gone on a trip?
Or did she simply have no family?
Unlike yesterday, when she’d been overwhelmed by shock and spent the day in a daze, now that she’d grown slightly accustomed to things, everything felt intensely curious.
She lifted her gaze slightly.
Nowhere among the paintings on the walls or the surrounding scenery could she find any hint revealing which noble house this might be.
She didn’t like the idea, but it seemed her only option was to feign amnesia in front of the maids.
Ruela looked down at the soup before her.
“Hmm…”
But if she suddenly claimed to have lost her memory right in the middle of a meal, wouldn’t they think she’d gone mad?
“Is the food not to your liking?”
Shuna asked worriedly as Ruela stared blankly at her plate.
“Add ten points.”
“Pardon?”
That she could say something like that after being scolded earlier—
Whether it was professional dedication or simply being overly kind-hearted, either way, Ruela liked it.
Ruela found herself in a situation where she had no idea who she was or where she was. Thus, she needed to calmly observe and evaluate people’s behavior to distinguish those who might help her from those who wouldn’t.
As she ate, Ruela kept staring at the translucent square window hovering before her eyes.
But what on earth was this?
A red horizontal line drawn in the bottom left, beneath which a row of small blue circles lined up neatly.
In the center was a clock, and in the bottom right, two rows of tiny empty boxes stood side by side.
She tried pressing various spots just in case, but nothing changed. Yet the clock kept ticking accurately, so it couldn’t just be a static image.
As she frantically tapped the empty boxes again, Shuna cautiously approached.
“Does your arm hurt?”
“My arm? Oh!”
Seizing the opportunity, Ruela asked,
“Those boxes in the bottom right—are they normally empty like this?”
Shuna looked bewildered and asked back,
“What window?”
“The one floating right in front of my eyes.”
Shuna turned deathly pale.
“My lady, are you perhaps seeing things that aren’t there?”
“Seeing things?”
‘Could it be that no one else can see this window?’
It had always been naturally present before her eyes since she could remember—she’d never even considered that it might be visible only to her.
While she was flustered, Shuna asked with deep concern on her face,
“Are you unwell? I’m worried this incident might have shaken you so severely that you’ve fallen ill.”
“So you’re saying you see nothing in front of me?”
“I don’t even understand what you’re referring to.”
After observing Shuna’s expression, Ruela calmly lowered her gaze.
“I don’t see it anymore either. I must have felt dizzy for a moment and thought things were overlapping.”
“Are you truly all right?”
Trending
“Yeah.”
She replied curtly and calmly picked up her fork.
The realization that this screen was visible only to her sent a sudden chill down her spine. She needed to figure out what this strange square window floating before her eyes actually was.
But since no one else could see it, uncovering its nature wouldn’t be easy.
If she regained her memory, she might recall something about this window. She decided she absolutely needed to learn what had happened to her—even if it meant hearing it from someone else’s lips. To do that, she had to reveal her amnesia.
Convinced she couldn’t stay in this state any longer, she hastily finished her meal and stood up.
Where should she start?
She didn’t even know what she usually did with her time.
Yesterday, after breakfast, she’d returned to her bedroom. Shocked by the unfamiliar surroundings, she’d rummaged through the entire room, and time had flown by. By the time she came to her senses, she was already on her way down for lunch.
And then, at the maids’ suggestion, she’d prepared for a party.
Ruela tried recalling the past few days, searching for any clue that might explain her current condition or the mysterious window before her.
But nothing came to mind.
Thus, she began to wonder—could this window itself be the reason she’d lost her memory?
What should she do?
She let out a soft sigh and scanned her surroundings.
If only she were outside, she could claim she’d suffered an accident and lost her memory. But how could she possibly lose her memory inside this refined, elegant dining room, where there was no danger whatsoever?
The deeper her worry grew, the louder her sighs became.
“My lady?”
Shuna’s voice, full of confusion, reached her ears.
Ruela quickly took a step forward.
There was no other way now. If no accident occurred, she’d simply have to create one.
With that resolve, she strode confidently toward the door.
Bursting through—
“My lady, what brings you here…?”
A middle-aged woman, cheerfully chopping away at a large counter in the center of the room, looked up in surprise.
Apparently, this wasn’t the right place. Still, she’d learned one thing:
She was hopelessly directionally challenged.
“I came to thank you for making such a delicious meal today.”
“Huh?”
The cook looked utterly baffled, but Ruela swiftly turned around and quickly scanned the dining room again.
‘Goodness, why are there so many doors? Which way did I come in earlier?’
Besides the door she’d just flung open, there were two more—one on each side.
Because she’d been trailing behind Shuna without paying attention, she couldn’t even remember which way she’d entered.
She’d definitely been in this dining room yesterday—how could it feel so unfamiliar now?
After a brief moment of contemplation, she lifted her chin high and looked at Shuna.
She gave a clear signal for Shuna to go first, but the maid only stared back with a puzzled expression.
She tried once more, shooting Shuna a meaningful look to lead the way, but faced with that blank, uncomprehending stare, she gave up cleanly.
Now it was “whatever happens, happens.”
Which direction mattered anyway? As long as an accident occurred that could plausibly cause memory loss, that was all that counted.
Having reached her conclusion, she strode forward confidently with firm, decisive steps.
She chose the door on the right.
Whenever she’d made choices like this before, she’d always picked left from her current position—and never once had it yielded a good outcome, just like her recent detour into the kitchen.
This time, it was the opposite direction’s turn.
Determined not to waver, she marched over and pushed the door open forcefully.
Bingo.
A spacious hall appeared before her.
From where should she fall? Not too high—should she suffer serious injuries on top of her memory loss, it would be a true disaster.
She eyed the middle of the staircase leading upstairs. The height seemed just right, and the stairs had a gentle incline. Falling from there wouldn’t kill or seriously injure her. She hated pain, but she had no choice.
After steeling herself, she stepped up one stair.
“My lady, why are you going to the second floor…?”

The maid’s question twisted Ruela’s expression.
Her bedroom was definitely on the second floor—so why was Shuna giving her that look? Was there something else she was supposed to be doing right now?
Since she had no idea about her usual schedule, she couldn’t just turn back now.
After a moment’s hesitation, Ruela haughtily snapped back,
“Do I need your permission for every place I go?”
Shuna quickly apologized.
“No, I’m sorry, my lady.”
Playing the role of a temperamental noblewoman was surprisingly easy.
She didn’t know what came next in her schedule, but since she was going to tumble down the stairs anyway, it didn’t matter.
She lifted her chin even higher and climbed another step. Suddenly, a voice came from somewhere other than Shuna.
“There’s been a disaster!”
What now?
She only needed to reach the middle of the stairs—why was this proving so difficult with constant interruptions? Pretending not to hear, she climbed one more step.
“My lady!”
How persistent. They called out in a way that couldn’t be ignored. Still, Ruela glanced back, clinging to the faint hope that “my lady” might refer to someone else.
“Oh no…”
Everyone in the hall was staring up at her.
“There’s been a disaster. An accusation against you has been posted on the town square bulletin board.”
What was this new situation? The surrounding stares were too intense to ignore and continue climbing the stairs.
“The town square bulletin board?”
She didn’t know what that was, but judging by the servant’s frantic expression, it must be something very serious.
“Yes, whatever shall we do? With the Viscount no longer here, I don’t know how we should handle this…”
If the Viscount was her father—
“Where has Father gone?”
“Father?”
The servant’s expression changed oddly. She’d guessed wrong again. At this point, she couldn’t endure it any longer.
“Oh, I’m so dizzy. What’s happening?”
She swayed dramatically and pressed a hand to her forehead. Then, as if stepping up the stairs, she lifted one foot—and threw herself backward.
“Eek, my lady!”
Peeking through half-closed eyes, she saw Shuna reaching out her hand, likely trying to catch her. Whether out of professional duty or kindness, Ruela wished she’d just hold back for now.
Dodging the maid’s hands skillfully, Ruela focused entirely on her fall.
‘This is taking forever.’
Though she hadn’t climbed high at all, it felt as if her body were being sucked into a bottomless abyss.
Thud.
“Aaah…”
It really hurt.
She’d only fallen from three steps—why did it ache so much? Was it the marble floor? Or perhaps the corset she was wearing?
She wanted to rub the sore spot with her hand, but she couldn’t. She had to pretend to be unconscious, so she even had to suppress the groan rising in her throat.

Of course it is hurt if still conscious haha
Miioo
Why try to fall down the stairs? Just pretend to have amnesia or ask the servants directly.
