The Only Healer, Ruela (Completed Main Story) - Chapter 1
Ruela had only learned last night that she was having memory problems.
Her common sense and knowledge remained intact, yet every single trace of her life’s memories had vanished completely without a single fragment left.
‘Damn it…’
Because of this, she was now deeply troubled, having utterly forgotten what kind of life she’d lived before.
She kept wondering what sort of life she must have led for everyone—both at home and here—to avoid her like this.
Worse still, as if to rub salt in the wound, people here were even gossiping about her behind her back.
“How shameless. What makes her think she can just show up here?”
“She must have heard that Master Balder and Lord Sedes went to the capital.”
Ruela felt the stares of those around her were scorching hot. Yet she believed this wasn’t because she’d become foolish from memory loss, but simply because she’d lived a life deserving of reproach.
She’d already been puzzled by how the maids avoided her as if she were a ghost, and now the same thing kept happening here at the party—it was unbearable.
At home, she apparently held enough influence that people at least showed some restraint, but the situation here was completely different.
She tried to pretend she hadn’t heard whatever nonsense they were spouting. She truly intended to—but…
“To show up here while avoiding those two—so she does have a conscience. Tsk, tsk. Just because she’s somewhat pretty doesn’t mean she can behave so vulgarly.”
The moment those words reached her ears, her rationality snapped. When she came to her senses, she found herself approaching the noblewomen and asking,
“Excuse me, madam… I’d like to hear in detail exactly what vulgar things I’ve done. Would you be so kind as to tell me?”
“Oh my, oh my goodness!”
She thought she’d posed a rather elegant question, yet one woman stood speechless with her mouth agape, while the other fixed her with a furious glare and snapped,
“I’m speechless! Are you seriously asking us to say that out loud? It’s your own affair—you should know better than anyone!”
True. Since it’s my affair, I ought to know.
…But I’m suffering from amnesia right now! I genuinely don’t know anything!
Unable to voice her frustration aloud, she managed only to add,
“Well, standards of vulgarity do vary from person to person, don’t they?”
Though she phrased it indirectly, she was burning with curiosity. What on earth had she done before? What terrible misdeed could have made everyone glare at her wherever she went?
Forcing a kindly smile, she took one more step toward the other woman.
“So please, would you tell me?”
“Kyaaaaah!”
She’d merely asked gently, in a soothing tone. Yet the noblewomen who’d been freely gossiping about her behind her back now looked as terrified as if they’d seen a ghost, screaming as they fled.
At their reaction, the already whispering crowd now openly pointed fingers and glared at Ruela.
“Look at that—there she goes again…”
“She’s truly unbearable.”
My only crime was asking a question… Hearing the murmurs again, a sense of injustice welled up inside her.
‘Seriously, what did I even do?’
She tried to explain herself to another group, but wherever she approached, the reaction was the same. Everyone scattered in all directions like startled pigeons.
‘Wow…’
The inexplicable social exile nearly brought tears to her eyes. But unwilling to cry messily, she let out a quiet sigh and finally decided to escape the crowd’s stares by heading toward the terrace.
Today was the second day since her memories began. Fortunately, the weather was exceptionally fine—a cool breeze blew through the night, faintly carrying the scent of grass.
It must be late spring or early summer.
After briefly enjoying the peaceful night scenery alone to calm her mind, Ruela shifted her gaze and checked the clock displayed in the square window before her.
[PM 9:30]There was still a full hour until half past ten.
She didn’t actually know why she had to stay here until 10:30, but since the maid had insisted she absolutely must not return before then, she’d simply gone along with it.
‘Anyway, with no memories, understanding the situation comes first.’
So even though the maid wasn’t particularly friendly toward her, she’d decided to follow any instructions given for now.
Thus, dressed in the gown they’d prepared without knowing why, she’d come to the party—but she was still thoroughly confused, full of unanswered questions.
From yesterday until today, she hadn’t encountered a single person in the house aside from the servants.
Though they were the only ones she could rely on now, she hadn’t told them about her memory loss. It certainly wasn’t because they looked at her like she was a ghost. Rather, some instinctive ‘feeling’ whispered to her that revealing it carelessly would be a mistake. It was pure instinct.
Therefore, even upon meeting unfamiliar maids, she’d calmly accepted their service, and even followed their words to come here to the party.
‘Is there nothing coming back to me…?’
As she searched her mind once more, the ballroom’s sudden quiet seeped through an abruptly opened door.
Wondering what had happened, she listened closely and overheard hushed conversations from people inside the terrace.
Trending
“He really is as handsome as the rumors say. I’ve never met someone who makes my heart race just by looking at him…”
“He’s from Elab, isn’t he? Opening the borders has brought such wonderful things.”
“But what brings him here? Could he be visiting Countess Camin?”
“Oh, don’t be silly. The countess hasn’t appeared in public for over a year already. It’s more likely he came to meet Master Balder but their paths crossed by chance, don’t you think?”
“That does make sense.”
Curious about who it could be, she glanced inside and saw everyone staring in one direction.
From their conversation, she’d already guessed—but unlike the disdainful stares she’d received earlier, the noblewomen’s eyes now shone with unmistakable admiration.
‘Who on earth has arrived…?’
At that very thought, she instantly recognized who had captured everyone’s attention.
Without anyone needing to point him out, the figure who drew all eyes appeared at the end of the crowd’s gaze.
Facing away, his face wasn’t visible from her angle, but he was clearly a man with deep black hair, standing a full head taller than the others.
It wasn’t merely his height. His perfectly inverted-triangle shoulders and strikingly solid, masculine build made it hard even for her to look away.
He’d tilted his head slightly to listen to those addressing him, causing his perfectly fitted jacket to stretch taut and reveal his broad back to full effect.
“Truly impressive.”
“Oh my! When did he arrive?”
Her unintentional mutter caused the young ladies beside her to recoil in horror, quickly putting distance between them.
[PM 10:00]Thanks to passing the time reasonably well on the terrace, thirty minutes had already slipped by.
‘At this rate, I should be able to head home soon.’
If she seemed likely to arrive before 10:30, she could simply wait a bit longer in the carriage before going inside.
Watching them do everything they could to keep their distance, Ruela forced a calm reply.
“I came out precisely because everyone wanted me to go home, so there’s no need to worry.”
“Good thinking. Please leave quickly.”
The young ladies even waved their hands as if shooing away a peddler.
What exactly have I done since coming here to deserve such treatment? Even if she’d done something wrong, their attitude was utterly incomprehensible. She’d tried her best to endure it—but…
‘Why should I have to put up with this?’
She no longer wanted to.
She had to say something.
Ruela took a step toward the young lady who’d just told her to leave quickly. The girl’s startled expression was clear to see, but Ruela didn’t stop—she moved closer and smiled.
“But I really must say this.”
“W-what is it all of a sudden?”
“You’ve been constantly fanning yourself since earlier—it looks terribly uncultured. I’d even call it… vulgar.”
The surroundings fell silent as if doused with cold water. Perhaps before losing her memory, she’d been quite meek and taken everything quietly.
“W-what did you say? Vulgar?”
The young lady’s eyes trembled as if struck by an earthquake, her voice rising hysterically.
“How dare you say that coming from your own mouth?”
“Standards for what’s vulgar differ from person to person. To me, people who shout so rudely and wave fans about like that seem crude and low-class.”
“W-what did you say?”
Watching her opponent nearly have a fit, Ruela deliberately covered her mouth with her fan.
“This is how you use a fan.”
The young lady, who’d been trying so hard to appear refined, turned bright red with humiliation and shouted,
“Hey!”
“Oh dear, how ear-splitting! You really need to retake your etiquette lessons.”
When Ruela deliberately covered her ears and smirked, the girl’s face turned even redder.
“How dare you lecture anyone about manners—”
“I’m tired, so I’ll take my leave.”
Before the other could finish, Ruela gathered her dress, dipped into a gentle curtsy, and turned away.
Though the crowd’s stares had grown even colder after her outburst, she felt wonderfully relieved inside.
‘I can’t just keep suffering without understanding why. I won’t stand for it.’
No matter what kind of life she’d lived before, it didn’t justify so many people ganging up to ostracize one person like this.

‘At least the path ahead is clear.’
That was some small comfort. As she passed by, the whispering crowd parted like the Red Sea, automatically making way for her.
…Seeing this, perhaps a life that earns you scorn isn’t so bad after all.
Her reputation couldn’t possibly get any worse anyway. Since things had come to this, she resolved to do exactly as she pleased.

When male lead is the homewrecker
“I know she doesn’t love him.”
I’ve read the novel below twice already. Girls, I’m highly recommending it to you!

The female lead? Not a good person.
The second male lead? Not a good person.
The male lead? Willingly plays the third party, breaking up the female and second male lead’s relationship despite all the warnings from his friends—so yeah, he’s definitely not a good person either.
Basically, nobody in this novel is simple-minded or without scheming.
The female lead starts off as the male lead’s secretary, but don’t worry—later on, she takes over the company while the male lead steps back to support her. He won’t steal her spotlight, overshadow her, or dull her shine.
I love novels where men are out here snatching wigs, tearing each other down, and going to war just to win the female lead’s affection. And this is exactly that kind of novel. Most of Hai Dai Ran’s works have this dynamic. You’ll see the male characters’ emotions being pushed to the absolute extreme.
There’s even a scene where the second male lead exposes the male lead online for being a homewrecker. The brotherhood immediately gangs up on him, dragging him through the mud. I find it compelling —it completely flips reality on its head, where usually, women are the ones fighting over a man and getting torn apart by the sisterhood.
For me, female leads in the novels I read should only struggle in their careers, not in love. But if the brainless romantics in the story are all men? I have zero complaints.
I’ve pretty much read all of Hai Dai Ran’s novels and even translated all of them—her works are just my thing. I’ll slowly upload everything here. One day, when my website is official, I hope I can invite her to join as one of the star authors.
Here’s the story synopsis:
