The Extra's Role is Too My Taste (Completed Main Story) - Chapter 7
“Sigh… Maybe I should’ve just left it alone.”
Brody, rolling up her sleeves and leveling the soil with a hoe-like farming tool, let out a heavy inward sigh under the soldiers’ sharp gazes.
All soldiers who had broken military law had been punished. Brody had been summoned fifteenth, meaning fourteen others had already faced judgment—among them, two white-banner captains.
The soldiers seemed convinced that this “harsh” punishment stemmed from the presence of the “female prisoner,” especially “Brody.”
Thankfully, the summoned female prisoners had at least kept their lives—though even calling it “thankfully” felt painful. Was it any comfort at all that those men had received proper punishment?
“Still… I couldn’t just leave it be…”
Brody recalled the moment she overheard the conversation between the Grand Duke and the Chief of Staff.
She had been so shocked that she impulsively intervened.
Since her arrival at the Grand Duke’s tent, no other women had been taken away, so she had assumed the rest were safe.
But to kill them all? Should she really be grateful they hadn’t suffered worse? Of course, a painless death was better than a torturous one—but why did they have to die at all? Why was death the only option?
In war, women, the elderly, and children—the most vulnerable—always suffered the greatest losses.
They had no choices; they were reduced to mere objects.
Especially women.
Treated carelessly as commodities, their individuality ignored beyond their gender.
Thus, women often shared an unspoken sense of kinship.
Even with sworn enemies, they could lend each other sanitary pads—that kind of solidarity.
“I really was shocked. Guess it’s because I lived in a civilized society outside wartime…”
Shaken briefly by fear and anger, Brody shook her head firmly to clear her thoughts.
Time was short. They needed to start sowing quickly.
Brody demonstrated to the women watching her from all around, then spoke.
“Everyone must be exhausted, but this is a crucial moment. If we succeed here, we’ll be able to save our own lives. I’ll do my very best—please find strength for yourselves too.”
The women, looking uneasy, asked in return,
“Can we really be guaranteed safety?”
Given how menacing the soldiers surrounding the field appeared—whether they stood there to protect or with ill intent—it was only natural to feel doubtful.
To reassure them, Brody answered calmly but confidently, her voice clear and deliberate—as if speaking directly to the soldiers.
“Of course. His Grace the Grand Duke has promised that no one will be harmed while this work is underway. However, he also declared that anyone who sabotages this critical task shouldn’t even dream of keeping their life.”
It wasn’t easy for Brody herself to deliver such a threat to the soldiers.
But even if uncomfortable, some things simply had to be done.
To seal the deal and energize the murmuring women further, she added one final remark—
this time leaning slightly toward their group, speaking softly yet earnestly.
“Once this succeeds, your safety will be guaranteed simply by virtue of your success. This technique doesn’t exist in the North, and it’s incredibly valuable. That knowledge alone will be enough to protect you until you’ve firmly established yourselves.”
Brody’s resolute words began to change the women’s expressions.
They had known only that this woman, Brody, was a prisoner.
Yet despite having earned the Grand Duke’s favor—and thus securing her own safety—she had willingly stepped into this arduous position.
They couldn’t fail to see she was genuinely trying to help them.
Convinced by Brody’s sincerity, the women nodded in understanding, gripped their tools more firmly, and scattered into small groups.
Though clearly inexperienced in farming—as expected of maids who once served noble ladies—they were quick-witted and learned swiftly, just as noble maids would.
A faint spark of vitality began returning to the women who had previously trembled in the dark tents, unable to move freely, never knowing when they’d be summoned or killed.
Of course, they were all severely malnourished—calling it “vitality” was almost embarrassing.
“Well, motivation sorted.”
Brody silently observed them working for a brief moment.
Then, selecting one woman who seemed both skilled and well-respected among them, she appointed her as the team leader.
The chosen woman was a middle-aged lady named “Connie.”
“Oh! You’re…”
Only after choosing her did Brody recognize this woman—the very same person who had kindly explained things to her on her first day in this world.
Connie tearfully apologized for not stopping Brody when she’d been dragged away, and Brody gently comforted her, saying it was all right.
Thanks to this small connection with Connie, Brody could now relate more naturally with the other female prisoners.
Gradually, order began to take shape.
“Now… it all depends on me.”
Brody had the duty of selecting which crops to grow and arranging their supply.
Trending
“I’ve already picked the crops.”
After reviewing Original Brody’s memories, she was shocked to learn that “potatoes” didn’t exist in this world.
“No potatoes?”
Potatoes were among the hardiest crops—thriving even in cool climates and poor soil.
Quietly, Brody conjured a few seed potatoes in her palm.
“Oh wow! You’re amazing, Brody!”
Apparently, there were no limits to what a Plant Mage could create.
Whether native to this world or not, if the Plant Mage possessed the knowledge, it could be made real.
Brody decided to cultivate an ultra-early-maturing potato variety—bred for rapid growth.
She’d grown up under her grandmother’s care, helping on the farm as a child—never imagining that knowledge would prove so useful now.
“But even ultra-early varieties normally take two months… To shorten it to a month and a half, I’ll need to use some of my power. For the first harvest, I’ll accelerate growth with my abilities, then later, when distributing seeds, I’ll just argue that a generous timeline is necessary. Since no one else knows anything about potatoes, they’ll just accept whatever I say—easy enough to bluff through.”
The real issue was sourcing the seed potatoes.
Of course, Brody could create them—but if someone asked where they’d suddenly come from, she’d have no good answer.
After some thought, Brody requested to be shown where the prisoners’ belongings were stored.
Fortunately, their belongings hadn’t been discarded and had been gathered in one place.
Pretending to rummage through her own luggage, she secretly produced a few seed potatoes and slipped them out.
Some people found it odd she’d carry such things, but no one objected.
After all, she was clearly the most knowledgeable about plants among them—it wasn’t so shocking that she’d carry seeds.
“This technique is highly confidential. Since it’s the result of my long research, I can’t share it openly. Please arrange a private space for me.”
After presenting the seed potatoes with those words and securing a secluded area, Brody quickly multiplied them. Publicly, she called it “multiplication,” though in truth, she simply created more from nothing.
If she claimed she possessed a multiplication technique, people would believe her—no one else knew anything about potatoes anyway, so whatever Brody said would be accepted as fact.
“Guess I’ll have to bluff my way through this too, later… Ugh.”
Thus, the potato seeds for planting were secured.
Then, Brody selected one more crop.
“Let’s grow kohlrabi.”
Kohlrabi was another ultra-early-maturing crop.
While it couldn’t serve as a staple like potatoes, it provided decent satiety and essential nutrients like vitamins—and, most importantly, it grew even faster than potatoes.
She similarly conjured kohlrabi seeds while pretending to retrieve them from her luggage.
Kohlrabi seeds were small, so they were easy to sneak out discreetly.
[This is the timeline separator]Work progressed steadily.
Aidan had been receiving regular reports and thus understood the general situation well, yet he visited the site in person several times.
Of course, always from a distance—to avoid burdening the workers.
“How unexpected.”
Brody, who had once lounged lazily in the Grand Duke’s tent like a hibernating winter mouse, now moved with remarkable energy and diligence.
Her hair was tied back tightly, sleeves rolled up.
Though seemingly sensitive to cold, she wore practical work clothes and bustled about busily.
Fascinated and pleased by the sight, Aidan found himself visiting the field far more often than he’d intended.
He rationalized it to himself as necessary oversight—to ensure the soldiers behaved properly.
And then, on nights when she returned after finishing work…
Despite her evident exhaustion, she always brewed tea for Aidan and waited until he fell asleep before resting herself.
Seeing her struggle to stay awake, Aidan made an effort to wrap up his tasks quickly and head to bed earlier.
Thanks to her, he slept deeply, and his condition steadily improved.
As his health improved, his daytime productivity increased significantly.
Thus, a virtuous cycle formed—he could afford more sleep without falling behind on work.
And in the mornings…
In exchange for falling asleep before her at night, he now woke first—allowing him to watch her sleeping soundly.
Aidan—again, without realizing it—would find himself gazing at her for long stretches, only snapping out of it just as she began to stir.
Without his noticing, those brief morning moments had become the time he looked forward to most.
Day after day, as he watched her, he began sensing fatigue accumulating in Brody.

While his own condition improved thanks to her, hers appeared to worsen.
Her already thin frame seemed to grow even more frail, which pained him deeply.
Yet he couldn’t tell her to slow down.
Without her, this mission would collapse.
Moreover, countless lives depended on its success.
Thinking of the immense pressure she must be under only made his heart ache more.
So he did everything he could—gave her warm, comfortable outdoor clothing, kept the brazier burning hot enough to warm the entire tent, and even secretly passed her his own portion of meals when she wasn’t looking.
“To gain a consort like this… I’m truly lucky.”
For the North—and for himself.
Having a woman lying beside him like this still felt unreal, renewing his sense of wonder.
He’d never imagined he’d share his life with a woman—let alone desire one so deeply.
He’d held no expectations of women—or people in general.
To him, people were those he needed to care for, not companions who could stand by his side.
Even River, his closest confidant, was separated from him by an immense wall of ice.
Though they’d grown up like brothers, to River, Aidan was first and foremost the Grand Duke of the North—not a friend.
And River himself chose to treat him that way—it was only natural.
Besides, they had no luxury for idle friendship.
The North’s situation was dire.
His people were dying day by day, and the war he’d reluctantly started seemed nearly impossible to win.
Every day brought new despair.
Yet if the Grand Duke himself lost hope, everything would end—so he dragged himself up, again and again, slashing through that despair.
Such were the days he lived.
Then she suddenly appeared in his life.
“So much has changed since she arrived.”
Aidan recalled the day he first met her.
It hadn’t been long—but it already felt like a distant memory.

This is an incredibly captivating story that you absolutely shouldn’t miss! I’ll give a brief introduction here, and below you’ll find a detailed synopsis of the plot.

The female lead is a fierce and powerful demon king. The male lead is a once-in-a-millennium celestial lord, admired by the entire cultivation world.

She makes his life a living hell.
And somehow, the male lead—possibly a total masochist—doesn’t mind at all. In fact, he’s happy she’s paying attention to him.

Intro
Dong Xia lost her memory.
Her handsome and extremely powerful fiancé Li Qing comforted her: “It’s okay if you can’t remember. I’ll always be with you.”
Everyone thought Dong Xia’s ancestors must have burned incense to get such a perfect fiancé. He was the number one person in the immortal realm, yet he remained chaste and only loved her.
…
The day before marrying her fiancé, Dong Xia finally remembered everything.
She wasn’t suffering from memory loss at all.
Her arch-enemy had made her fake her death, destroyed her cultivation, replaced her memories, and pretended to be her deeply in love fiancé.
No wonder he said, “It’s okay if you can’t remember”!
Dong Xia laughed coldly as she pulled out her long knife: Li Qing, prepare to die 🙂
*
Li Qing, as the supreme being of the immortal realm, was the people’s shining beacon.
The only unknown stain in his life was his affection for Dong Xia, the ruler of the demon realm.
In the final battle of the war between immortals and demons, the sky collapsed and the earth shattered. The ruler of the demon realm was finally slain under the sword of the supreme being of the immortal realm, and everyone in the immortal realm applauded.
The cultivation world lost a ruler of the demon realm.
And in the back mountain of Li Qing’s cave dwelling, he secretly hid away a fiancée.

Oh my God, she’s putting so much pressure on herself. All this has negative consequences. Poor Aidan, I hope Brody can help him.
