The Extra's Role is Too My Taste (Completed Main Story) - Chapter 6
“There’s a way!”
At her bold reply, Chief of Staff River stared at Brody with an incredulous look.
‘What way could you possibly have? Are you about to spout more sweet-tongued nonsense?’
That’s exactly the look of disdain he gave her.
But Brody wore an expression completely unlike what River had expected.
He had anticipated something smug or mad—but instead, Brody was pale as a ghost, trembling violently.
It was a pained expression… just like Aidan’s.
Nervous and hesitant, she tightly clasped her shaking hands together and finally managed to speak.
“F-f-food… I’ll supply food. Please don’t kill the prisoners.”
At those words, River looked at Brody coldly, while Aidan stared in surprise.
“You? How?”
River sneered as he asked.
If supplying food had even been an option, River wouldn’t have agonized over it in the first place.
But wasn’t that premise impossible?
Brody answered with a trembling voice—but resolute eyes.
“They’ll become valuable laborers—if you just guarantee their safety.”
“You’re a prisoner yourself. Why should we trust you with the other prisoners?”
Even faced with River’s sharp rebuke, Brody didn’t back down.
“You can just keep them under watch. Don’t you need guards anyway if you’re promising their safety?”
Her audacious reply left even River—who rarely wavered—momentarily speechless.
Grand Duke Aidan furrowed his brow and asked Brody,
“So you want to use prisoners to grow crops? That’s impossible. Nothing can be grown on this cold, barren land anymore.”
Brody shook her head.
“I’m from the Central Capital. I know more about farming methods than anyone here.”
At Brody’s words, even the Grand Duke—and Chief of Staff River—seemed to be reconsidering.
Aidan asked again,
“You’re saying you can grow crops here?”
Brody nodded.
She hadn’t tried it yet, but with her knowledge, it seemed entirely possible.
Even if it ultimately failed, her skills would surely help them last for a while.
“Give me a chance. If the prisoners work, they can produce enough food even for the soldiers. What’s the worst that could happen?”
Chief of Staff River rubbed his narrow, angular jaw.
‘She’s right. If we solve the food issue, there’s nothing left to worry about. And if she actually pulls it off…’
It might be even more important than winning the war.
Seeing River lost in thought, Aidan asked,
“How much time do you need?”
“Crops need time to grow—at least a month or two.”
“That’s too long.”
“Then even Grandpa the Emperor couldn’t do it. It’s impossible—not just here, but anywhere, even in the fertile Central lands.”
Grandpa the Emperor…?
Both Aidan and River were startled by that phrasing.
It bordered on disrespect toward the Imperial family.
Having grown up in the modern era, Brody wasn’t used to rigid class hierarchies and held no particular reverence for royalty, so she hadn’t realized how her words might sound.
But she was right, nonetheless. Even the Emperor himself—or anyone else—couldn’t magically make crops flourish overnight.
Besides, weren’t they rebels? It was almost laughable that they’d flinch at mentioning the Emperor.
“River, how long until we conquer Fort Ferdan?”
“A week to prepare, and at least another month after marching out.”
“I see. So, uh… you—Bri?”
“Huh? Oh! Yes, Your Grace!”
Realizing “Bri” referred to her, Brody—initially confused—quickly answered earnestly.
Trending
“I’ll give you a month and a half. In that time, make the prisoners self-sufficient and supply thirty percent of the soldiers’ rations.”
“But without knowing the exact number of prisoners or how much food the soldiers need, I can’t just promise that outright.”
River nodded at Brody’s remark. It was a fair point.
“If possible, please share that information. Otherwise—”
She turned to the Chief of Staff.
“—you could assess the situation yourself and issue orders accordingly.”
“What if I give unreasonable orders?”
“Would you, though? A moment ago, you seemed to hope I’d succeed.”
“…”
River was speechless once more. She’d grasped his thoughts within seconds—astonishingly sharp. And that only irritated him more.
‘I may dislike her, but as Chief of Staff, I still have a job to do.’
“I’ll assess it and issue orders. Start immediately.”
With that, River gave Aidan a brief bow and hurried out of the tent.
It was his way of saying, ‘Handle the rest yourself.’
“Ah, look at that. River really left in high spirits.”
“High spirits?”
Brody stared bewilderedly at the tent flap through which River had just stormed off.
“Yes. We were stuck anyway—without food, we couldn’t last more than a month and a half. That was our biggest headache. But if what you said, Bri, is possible, we might actually have a future beyond that.”
“Um… is it really okay to tell me all this?”
“Everyone already knows why the North started this war. If it’s truly because of food shortages, then saying so shouldn’t be so dangerous.”
As he spoke, the Grand Duke lowered his head and pressed a hand firmly against his brow.
Frowning deeply, he continued,
“You really are… unusual. No one else would dare propose something like this—especially not a prisoner of war.”
“Your Grace…?”
His breathing grew ragged, but he didn’t stop.
“Thank you… for stepping forward to save them. I won’t forget this.”
“Your Highness, you look unwell. Shouldn’t you sit down somewhere—oh!”
Before Brody could finish her worried sentence, Aidan suddenly collapsed.
Kneeling on the floor, he clutched his head with both hands, clearly in agony.
“Your Highness, are you all right?”
“Tea… bring me tea.”
Brody, startled and about to sit beside him, froze with wide eyes.
‘Tea? Not medicine? Why tea, of all things?’
In that instant, the answer to a long-puzzling question flashed through her mind.
‘Headaches… and tea.’
He didn’t drink it for the taste.
‘There must be some effect I didn’t know about—and that effect must relieve his headaches.’
On the day the tea had no effect, he’d glared fiercely, saying, “This isn’t it.”
‘It wasn’t anger—he was in pain.’
Seeing him writhe helplessly, Brody rushed to the brazier to heat water for tea.
His current pain seemed worse than ever—so intense it looked like it might kill him. It was painful just to watch.
‘But tea alone won’t fix this. It’s still daytime—should I use Meshu to put him to sleep?’
While the water boiled, Brody fretted anxiously.
What he truly needed was her bodily fluid. But spitting into the tea? That was… awkward.
What if she added blood? Just a drop probably wouldn’t change the tea’s color much—and in his state, would he even notice?
After a moment’s hesitation, Brody bit her finger. There were no sharp objects like knives inside the tent for security reasons.
How many people had ever bitten their own finger to draw blood? It hurt far more than she expected.
For a second, she regretted it—but having already done it, she quickly mixed the blood into the tea and brought it to the Grand Duke.
Thankfully, the tea’s color hadn’t changed much.
“Your Grace, please—”

But the Grand Duke was thrashing too violently to drink. He nearly spilled the cup.
‘Ugh, whatever. He’s not in his right mind anyway.’
Brody took a sip of the tea herself and held it in her mouth.
Then she grabbed the Grand Duke by the collar, lifted his head, and pressed her lips to his.
“Mmph…!”
The first attempt wasn’t very effective. Most of the tea dribbled down his jaw.
But perhaps startled by her sudden action—or because a little tea had gotten through—his thrashing subsided slightly.
So Brody tried again.
This time, she delivered it quite successfully.
“Haa… haa…”
Aidan’s fever-bright eyes met Brody’s green ones.
When their gazes locked, Brody sensed his consciousness returning and quickly pulled away, handing him the teacup.
“Please finish drinking, Your Highness.”
Truthfully, the kiss alone might have been enough—but Brody didn’t want to reveal that, so she kept using tea as a cover.
He took the cup with both hands, seeming almost disappointed she’d pulled away.
Afraid he’d drop it, Brody held his hands to steady him until he finished drinking safely.
“Phew…”
Brody sighed in relief. The Grand Duke’s condition had visibly improved.
“Do you often get like this?”
“…Not this bad—only occasionally.”
Just as she thought.
Brody nodded, confirming her suspicion had been correct.
“Thanks to the tea you made, I feel much better.”
Surprisingly, the Grand Duke admitted it openly.
Brody stared at him, stunned.
“Is it really alright to tell me this? I’m just a prisoner… Why would you trust me with something like this…?”
“Haven’t you already stepped in to do something that brings you no benefit?”
“It was for the prisoners—those on my side.”
“Yes, it was for the prisoners. Doesn’t seem like you did it for the Emperor.”
“…”
Brody was speechless. He’d seen right through her—and he was absolutely right.
The silence between them was broken once more by Aidan’s voice.
“What happened to your hand?”
He’d noticed the blood on Brody’s finger.
Flustered, she quickly covered the injured finger with her other hand.
“Oh! I must’ve bumped it while rushing around earlier. It’s nothing.”
“Ah…”
Frowning with concern, Aidan stood and fetched a clean linen cloth.
Terrified he’d discover she’d bitten herself, Brody turned deathly pale and nearly snatched the cloth from him, trying to bandage it herself.
But it was hard to wrap with her injured finger.
“Let me do it.”
“N-no! How could I possibly trouble Your Highness with such a thing!”
At Brody’s protest, Aidan looked oddly disappointed.
His sigh confirmed it wasn’t her imagination.
“We’re not so distant that I can’t even tend your wound, are we?”
“…!”
Not distant? Then what are we?
Before Brody could react, he’d already pulled her hand toward him and started treating it. Luckily, after a few wraps, the wound itself was hidden.
In the renewed silence, his large, rough-looking hands worked meticulously and tenderly to secure the bandage.
Once again, it was the famously taciturn Aidan who broke the quiet.

“If I make it back—if I survive and return to the North…”
He paused, choosing his next words carefully.
Brody, awkwardly offering her hand, waited silently.
“When I return alive… I’ll take you as my wife.”
“…!”
What? Did he just say wife? Brody’s eyes flew wide open at the sudden declaration.
The Grand Duke Icewall flushed and continued,
“I’ve wanted to say this for a while. I’m sorry I didn’t speak sooner—I must’ve made you uneasy.”
No, no! I wasn’t uneasy at all! Why do you talk about it like you’re handing out a reward? That’s not how it works!
Brody screamed inwardly.
She just couldn’t bring herself to say it aloud in front of him.
“A man must take responsibility after spending the night together. No matter what happens, I’ll protect you—so don’t worry.”
What? Because we shared a night, you’ll make me your wife? Wow, the purest gentleman of the century has arrived.
“Of course, it’s only possible if we win the war—so saying it now feels rather shameless.”
“H-how could I possibly become Your Grace’s wife? I couldn’t—no, I can’t bear such a burden! You really don’t have to.”
Please, for the love of all that’s holy, don’t.
Become Grand Duchess? When I’ve got a perfectly good life ahead on my own? Why would I choose something so dangerous and troublesome?
“Will you really make me seem like a man with no sense of responsibility? I won’t take mistresses, won’t be unfaithful, and will devote myself fully to my family. I’ll never make you suffer—so please, don’t feel burdened.”
This man… he’s serious.
He really… has admirable principles… and values worth applauding…
But seriously—I don’t want this!
Brody felt tears welling up.
And deep in her heart, she made a firm resolution.
‘I absolutely must succeed in escaping.’

At first, the male lead despised the female lead. Later, he misunderstood that she liked him, so he condescendingly and reluctantly reciprocated her feelings.
Then, he suddenly discovered that she was kind to everyone in the same way, and there was already someone she cherished in her heart, and that person was not him.
The male lead couldn’t believe it, he became angry and crazy. He was determined to capture her body and heart by any means necessary.

What, Brody? Are you stupid? Why run away when a handsome, loyal, and kind person promises to protect you and live with you?
