This girl is really something.

A curse slipped out before I could stop it. Why couldn’t she just quietly take care of her own exam instead of staring at me and making a fuss!

“You… turned in a blank paper, didn’t you?”

I finally managed to exhale the breath I’d been holding.

When I tried to avoid her gaze, Misha simply came over and sat right beside me. Apparently, she now saw me as her friend.

I spoke gently, trying to soothe her.

“Misha, it’s best not to tell anyone about this sort of thing. Because even if I’m shameless, getting zero points is still embarrassing, you know…”

“Was it because of Mother? It was Mother, wasn’t it? You don’t have to deny it—I already know. Mother would never have just left you alone like that!”

I pressed my lips tightly shut. I wanted to grab my own mouth and slap it for ever encouraging Misha to pass.

Misha pulled back slightly, as if my expression alone had given her a sufficient answer.

As I wondered how to silence that foolish mouth of hers, Misha spoke softly.

“I know how badly you wanted to get into the Academy. You did it because you wanted to move into the dormitory and leave this house, right?”

“…….”

Looking into Misha’s bright, cheerful eyes, I somehow felt envious of her. She lived in a clean, pure world where worries like mine simply didn’t exist.

That’s right, you brat. If you knew, why didn’t you just let me go?

“I bear no responsibility for what Mother did. I never asked for it, and I didn’t even know about it. But since I feel sorry, I’ll give you a gift.”

Ugh… Misha, I feel sorry too—I’d really like to grab you by the hair right now.

I clenched my jaw tightly, swallowing whatever was bubbling up inside me, but Misha was walking on clouds.

With a happy smile, she leaned toward me and whispered into my ear.

“Your mother sent letters here every year.”

“……!”

At that moment, my pupils probably trembled as though shattering into pieces. Mother. Letters. I heard the sound of a corner of my heart breaking apart.

Misha glanced toward the door and whispered very quietly.

“Your mother started sending letters several years before you came to this house, but our mother burned them all. Father doesn’t know about it.”

My heart was flapping wildly like a bird that had just fallen from a tree.

Misha continued.

“Mother even paid extra to the people Father hired to find your mother, making them lie that they’d failed. You know our maternal family has connections everywhere in commerce—even with mercenary groups and such.”

“…….”

“Still, it’s amazing how Father managed to find you anyway! I’m telling you this so you’ll know Father never pretended not to know you on purpose.”

I was confused.

“The way you act distant with Father… he seems quietly hurt by it, too… You know this is a secret, right?”

Misha stood up abruptly, said this, and left.

“Now I’m an Imperial Academy student. We won’t run into each other anymore… So consider this my parting gift—to mark the end of our tiresome bond.”

I slowly slumped onto the sofa, stared at the ceiling, and murmured weakly.

“That little pest really went all the way to the end…”

The reason the Count had come looking for me so late, while I was living in Tounbar Mountain, suddenly became clear in my mind.

Mother must have realized she couldn’t keep raising me in that environment. Probably around the time I started coming home bruised and bleeding, turning into a foul-mouthed child.

She must have also feared that she might die someday, leaving me all alone. Tounbar Mountain was famously hostile to people—often devouring them and never giving them back.

So Mother took a risk and contacted the Count, but never received a reply.

After several years of this, she gave up. Sending flowers and a ribbon as a sign of severing ties, she declared she’d search for him no longer if that was his will.

Without even a note—only the Count’s sole gift that she’d kept with her.

Since the farewell bouquet wasn’t a letter with a sender’s name, it safely passed through the Countess and reached the Count’s hands. The Count immediately recognized the gift, even after ten long years.

But by then, everything was far too late.

How heartbroken must Mother have felt, abandoned anew by the Count every single year?

If the Count had received even one of those letters, would our mother still be alive today…?

I cried uncontrollably for the first time in seven years.

It was fortunate that everyone would assume my tears were just from failing the exam—so I wouldn’t need to justify my sorrow.

The Imperial Academy’s entrance exam results notice arrived at the Kaidel Duke’s residence. Unlike elsewhere, it wasn’t delivered by a courier but brought personally by an Academy staff member.

Rocard Kaidel frowned as he examined the results notice from the sofa.

“So, am I ranked first or not?”

“The highest score belongs to another student—even if we include the music practical score that student missed.”

“Who is it?”

“Labory Sihha.”

“What a strange name.”

The Duke Kaidel standing beside him asked,

“There’s no noble house named ‘Sihha’ in the registry—could they be commoners?”

“Their identity is unknown.”

The staff member spoke awkwardly to the Duke.

“There was internal discussion about this issue. Even if Labory Sihha appears, we’ve decided to invalidate their score since they weren’t on the official examinee list. You, Lord Kaidel, will be announced as the top scorer.”

“I see. Thank you.”

After the staff member left, Rocard flapped the results notice with a dissatisfied look.

“I thought I’d be first. The exam was easy.”

“But you lost even when including the unattended subject?”

“My violin string snapped while I was playing. All that sword training made me lose fine control over my strength.”

Though he didn’t show it openly, his son clearly felt his pride wounded, and the Duke chuckled softly.

“The Academy has settled the matter cleanly to avoid future trouble. They informed us out of goodwill, just in case—don’t take it to heart.”

“Yes, Father. But will the Academy really be useful to me? The timing feels a bit off.”

Scions of noble houses often used the Academy as a stepping stone to choose the lord or faction upon whom they’d stake their fate.

Indeed, leading troops into battle—as Rocard Kaidel had already done—was typically an elite path reserved for after graduation.

Since Rocard had already skipped ahead and gone straight to war, it was only natural he’d view the Academy as a waste of time.

The Duke shook his head.

“The Academy eagerly awaits your enrollment. Accepting a cadet who’s already established a specialty at such a young age is an honor for them.”

Rocard shrugged, as if it were only natural.

“There are things you can obtain only at the Academy. Observe carefully and reap those fruits. Carry on the name of your father’s first lion.”

“I’ve already done that.”

“Rocard!”

The Duke scolded his son with a stern face. But Rocard just grinned and left the room.

Yet the Duke said nothing more. He already knew his son’s choice—and supported it.

If only his fiery, confident son would just learn to watch his words.

Then again, the tale of Second Prince Greyan calling Rocard “the lion cub of Tagar” on the battlefield had already spread widely through society.

Second Prince Greyan Tagar. Recently, in the Amata War that ended in Imperial victory, he owed his life to Rocard.

For the heir of a powerful house, survival meant being chosen by the Emperor.

And creating the Emperor upon whom one would stake both personal and familial fate was an even more reliable path to survival.

Misha insisted that when entering the Academy dormitory, she should bring only brand-new clothes, shoes, and other items.

Her words—“All the other young ladies do it this way!”—worked like magic, prompting the Countess to summon merchants to the manor. Their presence made the Count’s residence quite bustling.

I listened to the commotion without much thought. Reading romance novels bought from town, lazing about, or snacking made the days fly by.

It was wonderfully easy and pleasant just eating and sleeping, yet somehow my heart grew increasingly uneasy.

No matter how much I told myself not to, it kept happening. Damn it.

“Rorisha. Am I interrupting?”

“My Lord!”

The Count, who had suddenly appeared in my room, kindly pretended not to notice the crumbs on my cheek.

“I’ll be going on a trip. Come with me.”

“…….”

I didn’t know how to respond.

Though the Count deliberately called it a “trip,” his absences from the manor were almost always official duties ordered by the Emperor. Taking along neither Misha nor his illegitimate daughter hardly seemed appropriate.

Besides, spending time alone with the Count right now might make my conscience collapse and burst.

Seeing my hesitation, the Count’s expression turned slightly displeased.

“I understand that your status as a bastard gives you strong drive. But when you’re with me, try setting that aside a little. You should know how to do that too.”

“…….”

What could I possibly say? Awkwardly asking where we were going, I said I’d get ready.

My Arch-enemy Sealed My Memory and Said That He is My Husband

This is an incredibly captivating story that you absolutely shouldn’t miss! I’ll give a brief introduction here, and below you’ll find a detailed synopsis of the plot.

The female lead is a fierce and powerful demon king. The male lead is a once-in-a-millennium celestial lord, admired by the entire cultivation world.

They are equally matched, legendary rivals who have battled for centuries.

In the final duel, the female lead is gravely injured. The male lead saves her, seals her memories, and hides her true identity. He tells her that he is her fiancé. His entire life has been flawless—except for the one thing he never expected, never controlled, and never wanted to control: falling for his greatest enemy. She is his inner demon, his obsession.

When the female lead regains her memories, she is furious at his deception.

She makes his life a living hell.

And somehow, the male lead—possibly a total masochist—doesn’t mind at all. In fact, he’s happy she’s paying attention to him.

Yep, we’re back to my favorite trope: male lead suffering. If you love this kind of story, jump into the pit with me now!!!

Intro

Dong Xia lost her memory.

Her handsome and extremely powerful fiancé Li Qing comforted her: “It’s okay if you can’t remember. I’ll always be with you.”

Everyone thought Dong Xia’s ancestors must have burned incense to get such a perfect fiancé. He was the number one person in the immortal realm, yet he remained chaste and only loved her.

…

The day before marrying her fiancé, Dong Xia finally remembered everything.

She wasn’t suffering from memory loss at all.

Her arch-enemy had made her fake her death, destroyed her cultivation, replaced her memories, and pretended to be her deeply in love fiancé.

No wonder he said, “It’s okay if you can’t remember”!

Dong Xia laughed coldly as she pulled out her long knife: Li Qing, prepare to die 🙂

*

Li Qing, as the supreme being of the immortal realm, was the people’s shining beacon.

The only unknown stain in his life was his affection for Dong Xia, the ruler of the demon realm.

In the final battle of the war between immortals and demons, the sky collapsed and the earth shattered. The ruler of the demon realm was finally slain under the sword of the supreme being of the immortal realm, and everyone in the immortal realm applauded.

The cultivation world lost a ruler of the demon realm.

And in the back mountain of Li Qing’s cave dwelling, he secretly hid away a fiancée.

Notes:

1. The female lead is white on the outside, black on the inside, and the queen of flattery; the male lead repeatedly tests the edge of darkness, a VIP guest at the crematorium.

2. Fantasy cultivation world setting.

How sweet are they!! I’m curious how well our ML will come to know Roba. I have a feeling he’ll know more about her than she does herself. And we finally get to hear about the princess Roba will come to support. Roba will be the “little lion cub” she raises. I wonder if she has the intention to rise to the throne. Or if she really has no familial bond to the second prince. I think Roba will come to believe the princess hold romantic feelings towards ML and try to avoid him. ML knows the princess just wants him as a shield and will openly pursue Roba, Roba will just this he’s trying to get her in trouble with the princess. And the princess wouldn’t support ML courting Roba because she using her as protection. And ML wouldn’t like that cause only he can protect Roba, Roba can protect herself tho. This is my guess, I wonder to see if this is accurate or not. They are so cute hhehehe

There is an error!! I spent more than half the chapter trying to figure out who the “earl” was—> it’s her father, “the count”. I’m a little confused, is she back countdom or back in the village? The duke seems very kind. I wonder if the prince will want Roba as an apothecary, and will make the ML bring her to their side.
