I'll Be the Queen of the Enemy Country (Completed Main Story) - Chapter 8
“Do you happen to have any companions with you? If not, please don’t refuse me.”
Even if he did have companions, Elise had no intention of backing down—but she added the latter part out of courtesy.
Karan grew serious. Elise’s proposal was far too unconventional.
From the very moment she appeared, he’d sensed something unusual—but with just one sentence, Elise had sent his heart plummeting.
In a tavern, a woman sitting beside a man carried sexual implications. And sharing a drink…
Haah, Karan wiped his neck, feeling the heat rise.
“I don’t have any companions.”
“That’s perfect.”
Elise sat down on the chair where his coat was hanging, wearing the brightest smile she could muster.
“Madam, what would you like to order?”
The waiter, who had been waiting for her to sit, approached and asked.
He seemed skilled as a merchant—pretending not to recognize her true identity despite clearly knowing who she was.
Elise glanced briefly at Karan’s glass.
“The same as his, please.”
“No, madam—please serve her Red Bordeaux.”
Karan changed Elise’s order. When she tilted her head in confusion, his lips—flushed with color—moved.
“My drink… is far too strong for a young lady like you. Red Bordeaux has both an aroma and flavor that will suit your palate.”
Karan acted as though he knew Elise well.
‘He must have looked into me beforehand, knowing I’m Chase’s fiancée-to-be.’
So that was why he’d been so deferential to me. For some reason, Elise felt a bitter pang.
‘At least the task just got easier.’
Now that he was pretending to know her so well, Elise could no longer hide her intentions.
“Karan Lisandro Titris.”
Elise softly rolled his name on her tongue. Karan’s shoulders jerked slightly.
“Do you… know who I am?”
“Of course. One can’t afford not to recognize the prince of Titris.”
“Oh… the prince of Titris. Right, I am the prince of Titris.”
Karan mumbled the rest, his tone tinged with disappointment, and the atmosphere instantly grew heavy.
Just as Elise wondered what to do, their drinks arrived.
“Have a pleasant evening.”
The waiter glanced meaningfully between Elise and Karan, offering a knowing smile.
Deep furrows formed between Karan’s brows.
Elise clinked her glass against Karan’s.
Unlike his earlier discomfort around her, Karan emptied his glass each time Elise tapped hers against it.
One glass turned into two, then into an entire bottle in the blink of an eye.
Karan’s alcohol tolerance was unknown, but Elise was definitely feeling the effects.
The awkward tension between them had largely dissipated.
Elise lightly tapped Karan’s fingers resting on the table.
Karan, reaching for his glass, froze mid-motion.
“Shall we move somewhere else, Karan?”
Her eyes held unmistakable invitation—would Karan accept her provocation?
Elise’s plan to escape Chase was simple:
Spend the night with Karan.
It would certainly provoke Chase and Viscount Warton’s wrath—but that anger could also be blocked in his name.
Of course, that assumed he’d cooperate with her scheme.
“What do you mean by… moving elsewhere?”
Karan’s thick eyelashes trembled faintly.
“What else could it possibly mean when a man and woman who just met in a tavern decide to move elsewhere? It means exactly what it sounds like. You won’t pretend innocence, will you?”
Titris was a harsh land with high infant mortality rates.
Thus, it was common for capable individuals to take multiple spouses, and an active sex life from an early age was encouraged.
Trending
Though she couldn’t be sure, someone of Karan’s standing likely had numerous betrothed partners.
That was precisely why Elise decided to offer him one night.
To him, it would merely be one among countless nights—easing her guilt over using him.
And she was confident she could be of help to Karan.
‘I’ll surely repay this kindness.’
Elise waited, her eyes sparkling brightly, for Karan’s answer.
“…Are you serious?”
He asked, staring intently into her eyes.
“Yes.”
No lengthy explanation was needed.
His sharp gaze swept over every part of her before pulling away.
Elise met his scrutinizing look with unwavering confidence.
Karan let out a deep sigh and rubbed his face with his slender hand.
His gesture was filled with frustration and anxiety, like someone struggling with an unsolvable problem.
“Serious, you say…”
Karan muttered and picked up the liquor bottle.
He drained it as if he absolutely needed to get drunk. The amber liquid slid down his throat.
He set the empty bottle down with a thud and turned to look at Elise.
In that instant, Elise understood.
He had succumbed to her temptation—his eyes glistening with desire.
“Let’s go upstairs.”
He rose to his feet.
[This is the timeline separator]Karan led Elise to the third floor of the pub—his lodging.
As she followed his back, Elise’s heart began pounding wildly.
She hadn’t expected to be nervous, yet her fingertips trembled as they approached his room.
Though it would be her first time in this body, it wasn’t technically her first experience—so why was her heart racing so fiercely?
Hoo… Elise took a deep breath to calm herself.
“We’re here.”
Lost in thought for a moment, she hadn’t noticed they’d already reached Karan’s bedroom. He stood holding the doorknob.
“If you’ve changed your mind, you may leave even now.”
“No. Let’s go in.”
Afraid he might notice her trembling, Elise stepped inside first.
Karan was from Titris, a land whose people held the saying: “Pretentiousness in bed is no fun.”
Elise wanted to be someone interesting to Karan.
Only then could she carry out her next step.
She glanced around the room. Karan’s bedroom was surprisingly modest for a prince of a nation.
‘The real issue is staying at a place like Pig’s Tail Pub.’
“We should’ve gone to a hotel instead.”
Misinterpreting her hesitation to sit, Karan spoke up.
Elise quickly turned to him and shook her head.
“No, I was just… thinking.”
“About what?”
“How utterly inadequate Bedroka is.”
“Not Titris?”
Elise gave a faint smile.
“The problem is Bedroka—inviting a prince of another nation to a banquet yet failing to provide proper lodging.”
“It’s because I arrived earlier than expected.”
“No. That’s just an excuse. Had you been royalty from another country, Chase—ah, His Highness the Second Prince of Bedroka, the very person assigned to oversee your visit—would have found a way to escort you to the palace regardless. The only reason you’re staying here is because Bedroka’s Second Prince is too foolish to see even one step ahead.”
Throughout her speech, his gaze never left her.

A flicker of suspicion lingered in his eyes—wondering if she might be lying.
His doubt was perfectly reasonable.
After all, Elise was known as Chase’s fiancée-to-be.
And their relationship was said to be quite devoted.
That Elise would insult Chase and proposition him for a night together was indeed hard to believe.
‘If words won’t convince him, I’ll have to show him through actions.’
Elise undid the buttons of her robe. It slid off her rounded shoulders and pooled at her feet.
Karan’s Adam’s apple bobbed visibly.
“Wait—stop for a moment.”
He urgently halted her action just as her fingers reached for the buttons of her dress.
Turning his head away and covering his lower face with his hand, he continued.
“What is it you truly want from me? This doesn’t seem like a simple request for a night’s pleasure.”
Karan was a clever man.
And unusually kind toward Elise.
She felt certain that, in his current state, he wouldn’t dismiss her story outright.
“Will you listen to what I have to say?”
She’d originally planned to speak only after spending the night—to loosen his guard as much as possible.
“Of course.”
Elise pointed to a chair in the room.
“May I sit and talk?”
Instead of answering, Karan pulled out the chair for her.
Once she sat, Karan took a seat opposite her.
“I have nothing to offer you to drink. I didn’t expect visitors.”
Though Elise was essentially an uninvited guest, Karan treated her like an honored one.
“I’m the one at fault for coming empty-handed.”
Elise replied politely, stealing a quick glance at the time.
They’d spent longer at the pub than anticipated.
After some mental calculations, Elise spoke.
“I’ll get straight to the point.”
She paused briefly before continuing.
“Will you sleep with me? Repeatedly.”
Karan tilted his head.
He couldn’t believe what was happening.
Given Elise’s demeanor, tone, and their current location, her “sleep” clearly referred to a sexual relationship.
Just as he’d anticipated when she’d suggested sharing drinks and coming upstairs together.
Karan stroked his chin to mask his fluster.
In conservative Bedroka, if a man and woman spent the night together, the woman was expected to marry him.
Yet she was asking to sleep with him?
And not just once—but repeatedly?
What could “repeatedly” possibly mean?
“I don’t understand what you’re saying.”
His palms were damp from tension, though outwardly he appeared composed.
Please let that be true.
Karan exhaled slowly.
“Are you… unwilling?”
Karan lifted his downcast eyes.
“Do you mean taking off our clothes and rolling around together? You truly want to do that with me?”
He asked more bluntly, wanting her to fully grasp what she was proposing.
If not, he hoped she’d turn around and leave right then.
“Yes. That scandalous act you’re referring to, Your Highness—I want to do it with you. You might find it distasteful. After all, I’m from Bedroka, and sleeping with me would obligate you to take responsibility. My dowry would be modest at best, and I’m already verbally engaged to His Highness Chase.”

The flaws Elise listed meant nothing to Karan.
His hesitation stemmed purely from disbelief at the reality before him.
And he feared the aftermath should he eagerly accept her offer only for her to regret it the next day.
Karan narrowed his eyes and studied her silently for a while.
The chance that Elise had fallen for him at first sight and thrown herself at him was essentially zero.
Then what was her motive?
“You want something from me. What is it?”
Elise smiled faintly at the corner of her lips—as if she’d expected him to ask.

Male lead Asks for a Divorce Every Day
It’s not often you come across a plot like this in the female-dominant genre — make sure to check it out!

This is a novel I’m planning to reread as well.
The male lead is strong, skilled in martial arts, and not the usual fragile type you often see in matriarchal novels.
Meanwhile, the female lead is a scientist—rational and logical. Even when she falls for the male lead, she doesn’t let her emotions cloud her decisions.
If you push through the first few chapters, you’ll gradually find the story really intriguing.
It has a mix of mystery, detective elements, and romance.
The author’s writing style is like crafting a puzzle—except they deliberately leave out a few pieces, making it hard to predict what happens next, yet keeping you hooked.
In the end, everything will come together and be explained.
One-sentence summary: Wife, stop playing with beakers and look at me!
In a laboratory accident, research scientist Zhu Wansheng accidentally travels to a matriarchal world. The original owner of the body is an eighteen-year-old only daughter of a wealthy rouge merchant, already married with a handsome young man.
Zhu Wansheng grins: Nice! She always said she was heaven’s favorite granddaughter. After a life of toil in her previous life, she can enjoy blessings in this one.
However, her joy lasts no more than three seconds as bad news arrives: the original owner’s family is about to go bankrupt, and her husband wants a divorce.
Even worse, she’s stuck with a research system full of restrictions.
Zhu Wansheng: ? Is this the destiny of a research dog?
——
Faced with this mess, Zhu Wansheng pours herself a bowl of wine to drown her sorrows. In her drunken haze, her husband arrives.
His figure is imposing, holding a long sword, with a dignified air that captivates Zhu Wansheng.
Gu Yingqing, however, looks at the alcohol-reeking Zhu Wansheng with undisguised disgust and coldly asks, “Divorce or not?” The intoxicated Zhu Wansheng mumbles vaguely, “I think… it’s not… it’s not… impossible!”
——
The next day, after sobering up, Zhu Wansheng is full of energy, rolling up her sleeves ready to make a big move. As for yesterday? She has no memory of it.
Zhu Wansheng is ambitious; a research dog fears nothing!
Upgrading rouge, extracting fragrances, producing perfumes, researching lipsticks… all shall bow to the power of modern technology!
The original owner’s dying rouge shop is revitalized. Her mother is pleased and with a wave of her hand, passes on the family business to her. As she takes control and her experimental results gain popularity, it’s the pinnacle of her life…
——
But there are always those who can’t stand to see her doing well. Jealousy, scheming, assassination attempts – they want nothing less than her life.
The person who has always kept his distance from her suddenly holds her tightly in his arms, eyes full of concern.
She is unharmed, but he falls into a pool of blood…
Zhu Wansheng feels guilty, “I can grant you one wish.”
Gu Yingqing tentatively circles his arms around her, carefully resting his head in the crook of her neck, pleading softly, “I regret it. Can we not divorce?”
Zhu Wansheng: ? When did I agree to a divorce?
[Small Theater]
The newly developed rouge is beautifully packaged, and Zhu Wansheng is eager to try it.
Gu Yingqing suddenly appears: “My lady, may I apply it for you?”
Cool fingertips lightly brush her lips. His Adam’s apple bobs as he leans in for a light bite.
Zhu Wansheng: ?
Gu Yingqing: It smells so good, I wanted to taste it…
On a warm spring day, Zhu Wansheng tries a new perfume: “Spring Night.” Gu Yingqing corners her against a wall.
Warm breath lingers on her neck.
“My lady, from now on, may I test the fragrances for you?”
