The sensation of another’s lips pressing against my own was something I’d never felt before. I’d received cheek kisses from my parents, older brothers, and younger siblings, but this was my first time on the lips—strange and bewildering.

My heart pounded, not from excitement, but because I had no idea what to do next.

Then, I recalled Elise’s words.

—”A lady should simply stay still, Your Highness. If you take the lead, it appears lewd. Pretend you know nothing and remain quiet—men will know what to do. Just follow wherever he leads.”

I had no chance to take initiative anyway. Since I truly knew nothing, I stayed still—and just as Elise had said, Lucas took care of everything.

I remember it feeling like an eternity. Nothing that followed was particularly enjoyable, yet I didn’t push Lucas away. He would one day become my husband, and once that happened, I would have to accept far more than this.

After that, Lucas kissed me often, but I never experienced the “world-shattering, explosive feeling” described in popular novels. Yet it wasn’t terrible either, so Roxiana decided this kind of love must simply exist.

The journey from the Grand Temple back to the Kingdom of Khanta dragged on tediously. Roxiana longed to return home as soon as possible—to meet her family, share everything that had happened, and be enveloped once more in their warmth.

On the third day, an incident occurred.

“What—what is this?!”

“It’s an ambush!”

“The coachman’s dead! Get the princess to safety first!”

Amid panicked shouts, the carriage jolted to a halt, then suddenly sped off again.

She heard knights frantically drawing their swords.

Clang! Clink-claaang!

The sound of clashing blades grew distant. The carriage lurched violently, clearly veering off the road.

Lasha, now deathly pale, stared at Roxiana with terrified eyes.

“Y-your Highness… It’s… it must be an ambush… What do we do?”

Roxiana bit her lower lip and gently pulled aside the curtain covering the carriage window to peer outside. Dense trees whizzed past unfamiliarly.

Born a princess of the Kingdom of Khanta, she had spent her life safely within the palace walls. Whenever she visited the capital’s bustling streets, she was always accompanied by numerous knight escorts. Though this was her first trip so far from home, her father, Victien IV, had assigned an elite knight detachment solely for her protection.

—”Father really worries too much. On the route from here to the Grand Temple, the only real danger would be bandits—yet he sent elite knights.”

Who had said that again?

Ah, right—it was her third older brother, Naufried. Though Naufried had shaken his head at their father’s excessive concern, he’d firmly gripped Roxiana’s shoulder and said,

—”Rotti. No matter how dangerous the situation gets, keep your wits about you. Understand? If it looks like you’ll be captured, bite down with the resolve to kill at least one of them.”

—”You seem more worried than I am.”

She also remembered her second older brother, Ian, chuckling beside Naufried—and her nieces clinging to her skirts, begging her not to leave.

This wasn’t the time to reminisce fondly about such peaceful memories while in peril.

“Your Highness.”

A familiar face appeared outside the carriage window.

It was Robert, one of her escort knights.

Seeing him—her ever-present shadow since childhood—eased her fear slightly.

“Robert, what’s going on? Is it monsters?”

The carriage kept moving, and Robert rode alongside on horseback. Worry clouded his face.

“It’s not monsters…”

That was all he managed.

Thud—!

Something flew through the air and pierced Robert’s neck. Roxiana realized a moment too late that it was an arrow.

Robert clutched the arrow embedded in his throat, but before he could react further, another arrow struck his chest.

He didn’t even cry out. Roxiana forgot to breathe, staring helplessly at her collapsing knight.

For over ten years, he—the royal family’s loyal wolf—had protected her steadfastly. Now, numbly, she watched his sharp brown eyes, still keen despite his middle age, lose their light.

“Kyaaaaaah!”

Lasha’s scream filled the carriage. Only then did Roxiana snap back to her senses.

‘Not monsters?’

Then why would the royal family’s elite knights be so helpless?

‘It’s not mere bandits. Bandits couldn’t possibly stand against knights.’

The attackers must have known in advance that the Franche royal carriage would pass through here. They clearly possessed considerable archery skill.

‘The coachman was probably killed by arrows too. If they’d charged with swords, the knights would have blocked them.’

They likely shot the coachman from the front, then exploited the knights’ ensuing chaos to strike from behind. The dense woods provided perfect cover for archers.

‘Who could it be? Who’s targeting the Franche royal family?’

She considered hostile nations, but none near the empire would risk such a bold attack. The Kingdom of Khanta maintained peaceful relations with its neighbors, and no country dared start reckless wars with monsters already causing havoc.

‘No—right now, it doesn’t matter who the enemy is.’

Their identity would soon be revealed. What mattered now was survival.

“Lasha.”

Roxiana firmly gripped Lasha’s knee, who was still screaming.

“Lasha! Get a hold of yourself!”

Startled by Roxiana’s sharp voice, Lasha finally stopped screaming.

“Y-your Highness… Your Highness… Sir Robert… Sir Robert…”

Lasha’s voice trembled uncontrollably, but Roxiana’s gaze remained steady. Her unwavering green eyes calmed Lasha’s shaking bit by bit.

“Lasha, listen carefully. Judging by the fact that the carriage remains intact, they don’t intend to kill us immediately. Their goal is likely kidnapping.”

Lasha nodded through tears. There was no time to comfort her.

“They’ve probably planned this for a long time and are highly skilled. Resistance won’t help us escape them. So Lasha—when the carriage stops and they reach for us, don’t resist. Obey them completely. Don’t even try to protect me.”

“B-but Your Highness…”

Roxiana shook her head firmly, keeping her eyes locked on Lasha.

“Lasha, you can’t protect me. I don’t have the strength to protect myself either. Resisting would only get us killed pointlessly. For now, we must do as they wish and bide our time.”

Though she spoke calmly to ease Lasha’s fear, Roxiana herself couldn’t fully suppress the creeping dread within.

The coachman was dead—another knight must have taken his place. Robert, who had been riding alongside, was now dead, yet there was no sign of the knight driving the carriage fighting back.

It was suspicious that the attackers had left the driver unharmed.

‘Unless the knight driving the carriage is on their side.’

If her suspicion was correct, this plot had been in motion for a very long time—long enough for a spy to embed himself within the Khanta royal knights.

Her fingertips turned cold.

‘Are my family… safe?’

When the carriage finally stopped and its door was violently flung open, Roxiana realized her suspicion was right. The knight who opened the door wore the uniform of the Khanta royal knights—but behind him stood dozens of men dressed like mercenaries. Among them were even a few more knights in royal uniforms.

There wasn’t just one traitor or spy—it was many.

Lasha burst into tears again. Roxiana wanted to cry too, but she fixed her eyes on the knight and asked calmly,

“Since when?”

The knight lifted his blindfold and answered,

“From the very beginning.”

+++

For a long time, they traveled blindfolded. Unable to see anything, Roxiana couldn’t tell how many days had passed or where they were headed. She only knew it was mealtime when the carriage stopped and she smelled food.

Lasha refused to eat, but Roxiana devoured everything on the plate placed before her. She needed to stay strong—she couldn’t let her family down if rescued due to weakness.

Unable to see and without utensils, she stuffed bread and meat scraps into her mouth with her hands.

“Even a princess can’t resist hunger, it seems.”

“She’s never eaten food like this in her life. What a pitiful sight.”

Their mockery didn’t matter. Survival came first. Her sole thought, desire, and hope was to survive and reunite with her family.

Even though her hair grew greasy from days without washing, her skin roughened, and she began to smell unpleasant, Roxiana didn’t despair—not until her blindfold was finally removed, and she realized where she stood: the royal palace of Khanta.

At first, she thought she was seeing things. After being blindfolded for so long, she assumed her eyes deceived her—because everything before her made no sense at all.

The audience chamber of Khanta’s royal palace—the very place where Roxiana had lived since birth.

Sitting on the high throne—the throne she’d entered as casually as her own room—was not her father, Victien IV, but someone else. And seated beside him in the queen’s chair was not her mother, Angelia, but another woman.

The knights guarding them, the courtiers standing along the long carpet’s edge, even the crest embroidered on the tapestry behind the throne—none belonged to the Franche royal family of the Kingdom of Khanta.

Thus, Roxiana stared speechlessly at the audience chamber for a long while before finally managing to speak.

“Lucas… why…?”

Male lead is reincarnated to save his wife

I’ve also read this one twice already. The female lead is kinda soft and gets embarrassed easily—not really my type, but the plot is definitely worth reading. Hurry up and read it, y’all!

Intro

When Shen Yuan encountered Su Jin again in his previous life, she had already become the Prime Minister of the current dynasty. As for him, the former top young master of the capital, he had long since fallen into the abyss, becoming a singer on a pleasure boat.

After a song ended, he was redeemed and sent to the Su Residence.

Su Jin respected and cherished him, gave him a roof over his head, and bestowed him with warmth. Shen Yuan fell deeper and deeper, but before he could express his feelings, Su Jin passed away.

Shen Yuan died to follow her in death, but instead, he returned to when he was fifteen years old.

At that time, he was not yet engaged, and Su Jin was just a poor scholar.

Shen Yuan gritted his teeth, casting aside all his pride, and thought of ways to coax and entice her every day.

The colder and more indifferent Su Jin was towards him, the more proactive Shen Yuan became.

He was not afraid of being mocked by the world, only wanting to marry his Wife-master early, to hold her hand and never let go for a lifetime.

[Note: This story will not specifically point out the male lead’s reincarnation time point; it’s all in the details. Whenever you feel that the male lead is acting strangely, he has most likely been reincarnated.]
