“Yes, precisely—His Grace the Grand Duke Kshant. You just need to go to the Grand Duchy where Grand Duke Kshant resides.”
“D-Does that mean all the way to his mansion?”
“Yes, exactly.”
Natasha firmly repeated her reply to the coachman, who blinked and asked again in disbelief. Yet, he still seemed uneasy and hesitated to set off.
After lingering anxiously at the gate, he finally voiced his concern quietly.
“I understand that place isn’t accessible without proper permission…”
“Even if we can’t reach right up to the mansion gates, I’ll pay you the full fare as promised. Please don’t worry and just go ahead.”
She declared resolutely and handed him her purse. Receiving the payment upfront, the coachman quickly departed without another word.
The carriage soon rolled forward. The window, which had framed the familiar scenery of Vail, soon reflected an unfamiliar landscape. Faced with this strange and unknown sight, Natasha grew unconsciously nervous.
‘Will this succeed?’
She had attempted to seek cooperation from the Duchy of Kshant in her previous life as well.
Although she hadn’t guaranteed success, she’d expected at least to reach the negotiation stage and secure a place to hide.
Instead, she received complete silence—not even a reply. The Grand Duke had even forwarded her letter back to the Duke as a clear rejection. Her last shred of courage, gathered in hopes of choosing the lesser evil, faded entirely.
