The first night of a newlywed couple.

For the ducal house, the wedding night of two people officially married was a grander and more lavish event than anything else. Countless servants had contributed to blessing this ceremony today.

The bride, who entered the lavishly decorated room, surprisingly appeared unmoved. With dry eyes like those of a dead fish, she scanned the interior, then sat down heavily on the bed as if utterly disinterested.

After a while, the sound of someone entering was heard. The elegant footsteps faintly revealed the visitor’s identity.

Natasha raised her voice without even turning around.

“You don’t have to show me any kindness.”

As though pleading desperately: please, don’t come near me.

“Your Grace… despises me, after all.”

In truth, Natasha had no desire to pry into his feelings—she was simply too exhausted, far more than repulsed by him. Until now, even the faint urge to strip away Zieghart’s false facade had dwindled.

Moreover, within the domain he had painstakingly built, Natasha was utterly powerless. This had nothing to do with whether or not she truly loathed Zieghart.

If she stayed still, matters would resolve themselves. Surely, a man so prideful would grow tired of her indifference and leave on his own.

Yet his deceit kept making her feel small. Watching him feign kindness rendered her past days of sorrow—when she’d wept helplessly through misfortune—suddenly trivial.

‘Things I once cried bitterly for, unable to obtain them, are now granted to me so easily.’

Nights filled with disappointment because he never visited before the wedding; the humiliating moment she cried after he rejected their vow-kiss.
