How to Divorce a Obsessive Emperor Safely (Completed Main Story) - Chapter 5
“This… this is…”
What Lasilia had picked was, ironically, sleepwear.
To Lasilia, unfamiliar with Eliaeden’s court attire, the sleepwear—lavishly crafted for the wedding night—looked no different from an ordinary dress, merely a bit more comfortable.
Of course, that sleepwear had never been worn.
The Empress and Emperor had never once shared a bed. The carefully prepared nightgown remained untouched, hanging neatly on its hanger like a brand-new garment.
“M-My lady, are you certain?”
The maids exchanged frantic glances.
It was unfortunate that Lasilia, absorbed in examining the outfit she’d chosen, missed their reaction entirely.
“Mm. This is the one I like best.”
“W-Well… then… I see.”
Though it was only natural, even the maids didn’t truly believe the Empress’s amnesia was genuine.
They knew better than anyone that all the illnesses the Empress had previously claimed were fabrications. Their lives were precious, so they merely played along desperately.
Not for a moment did the maids suspect the Empress might be so forgetful as to fail to recognize her own nightgown.
“Understood, Your Imperial Majesty. We shall prepare your adornments to match your chosen attire. Please sit here.”
“Alright.”
Lasilia sat before the dressing table as the maids indicated.
Following the maids’ silent cues, the palace attendants gathered around and began brushing her hair.
Since it was sleepwear, there was no need for elaborate makeup or intricately braided hairstyles.
After gently combing Lasilia’s long hair, the attendants gathered half of it loosely and fastened it with a single jeweled pin.
“Is there anything lacking, Your Imperial Majesty?”
Once the attendants stepped away, Marchioness Pashad approached beside the dressing table and asked.
Certainly, there was nothing lacking.
The dress—woven from pale peach silk interlaced with shimmering silver thread—looked far more beautiful when worn than when hanging on a rack.
For Lasilia, who had always worn the same plain prophet’s robes, even the smooth caress of silk against her skin felt like luxury.
“Won’t I look too pretty?”
Lasilia murmured without realizing it.
“Why, you are beautiful in any appearance, Your Majesty.”
Lasilia’s cheeks flushed slightly at Marchioness Pashad’s words.
She must have seemed like someone praising her own reflection, having muttered about her beauty while gazing into the mirror.
‘But that was meant for the Empress…’
Strangely enough, she didn’t feel an unbearable sense of dissonance with this beautiful face.
Perhaps it was because their hairstyles were similar. Like the Empress, Lasilia also had long black hair. Her own face might not be as beautiful as the Empress’s, but aside from that, they might even look somewhat alike.
She didn’t feel noticeably taller or shorter, nor did her body seem significantly different.
‘If only I could look pitiful enough to evoke sympathy… but with this face, this is probably the best I can do. And among these, this dress is the plainest anyway.’
Lasilia nodded toward the Marchioness.
“This is enough. Everyone, thank you for your hard work.”
“Y-Your Imperial Ma—”
The maids and attendants’ eyes widened in astonishment upon hearing her thanks.
Had nothing unusual occurred, even Lasilia herself might have found their reaction a bit odd.
Coo, coo-coo!
Tsu-tsu-tst!
Kraaak!
But something unusual did happen.
Outside the window, birds were causing a commotion.
“What’s going on?”
The glimpse of feather colors resembled those talking birds from this morning.
Lasilia abruptly rose and headed toward the window.
The maids stood frozen, mouths agape, as they watched the fully dressed Empress open the window.
Creak! Screech!
Lasilia opened the window.
Trending
And what she saw was quite a strange sight.
“Ugh, you crazy birds! Go away!”
The birds were swarming someone perched lightly on the narrow windowsill, as if it weren’t narrow at all.
That someone was one of the two knights of the Emperor she’d seen earlier that day.
“Stop it.”
Lasilia instinctively called out to the birds, worried they might knock the person off.
The words slipped out before she could think, and the birds immediately halted their actions as if they understood.
“Oh… thank you, Your Imperial Majesty. I never expected such kindness from you.”
The knight, whose short-cut golden hair tinged with red revealed her ears clearly, was strikingly beautiful upon closer look.
Earlier in the day, her features had been obscured by the Emperor’s overwhelming presence.
Regardless of who it was, however, seeing someone outside her window the moment she opened it was hardly a pleasant surprise.
“So you had business in my room, I see.”
The knight, who had introduced herself as Rian, laughed to ease the awkwardness.
“And I never expected to be caught like this. Who could’ve guessed those mad birds would start screeching? …Ah, this wasn’t supposed to be discovered.”
“…”
Rian’s carefree smile softened the atmosphere, but upon reflection, it sent chills down Lasilia’s spine.
‘She was spying on me… trying to find out if my amnesia is real or fake.’
Lasilia steadied her wavering thoughts.
‘I mustn’t let my guard down, not even for a moment.’
As if sensing her thoughts, the birds kept their sharp eyes fixed on Rian, ready to pounce again at any second.
“It’s not that the birds are mad—it’s the person who shouldn’t be here that’s the problem.”
“Hmm… Well, you’re not wrong. So what do you intend to do?”
Rian wiped the smile from her face and asked.
“If the punishment is reasonable, I’ll accept it. After all, getting caught was indeed my mistake.”
Lasilia’s expression hardened in response.
For someone caught spying, Rian was far too bold—moreover, she didn’t consider the spying itself wrong, only the fact that she’d been discovered.
“So you’re acting as if you’ve done nothing wrong.”
“Oh, come now, Your Majesty. Surely you’re not naive enough to believe there are no eyes watching over the Empress’s quarters. But I swear on my blade—even if there are, they’re no more than half as thorough as what you normally do to His Majesty.”
“…”
If that were true, it meant the Emperor and Empress had been spying on each other all along.
‘Then why marry at all, if they trust each other so little?’
The more she learned, the stranger this place became.
“But may I ask something?”
Rian suddenly pointed at her own clothes.
“I heard you changed outfits for your meeting tonight… Are you really planning to go like that?”
“I’m more curious why you’re questioning my attire. Is it part of a royal guard’s duty to scrutinize the Empress’s clothing?”
“No, it’s not that…”
Rian paused mid-sentence.
“…Well, I’m just curious what made you change your mind.”
“Change my mind?”
“Doesn’t this mean you’re finally allowing contact? What made you change so suddenly?”
“Contact…?”
Lasilia couldn’t understand Rian’s words at all.
“What does that even mean?”
“Oh dear. Don’t tell me you’ve forgotten about ‘contact’ too?”
“As I’ve said, I’ve lost my memory. I remember nothing.”
“Hmm…”
Rian scrutinized every corner of Lasilia’s expression with piercing eyes.
Then, suddenly, she grinned.
“Well, that’s not necessarily a bad thing. Above all, it seems you’ve truly changed, Your Majesty.”

Rian leaned in close, her lips nearly brushing Lasilia’s ear as she whispered.
“Listen carefully, Your Imperial Majesty. Whatever your reasons, I’m delighted you’ve had a change of heart. I’ll gladly forget everything you’ve done until now—so please, from this moment on, fulfill your role properly.”
A hushed threat followed, audible only to Lasilia.
“But if this turns out to be another deception, I swear on my blade—you will pay dearly, Your Majesty.”
The whisper was unmistakably a threat.
Having said her piece, Rian swiftly pulled away.
“Then I shall take my leave.”
Whoosh! Thud!
Rian leapt down in one fluid motion. She tapped the terrace railing below with her toes, used the rebound to descend further, and vanished.
It was far too quick for anyone to react.
“Bad person, bad person!”
“Punish her, punish her!”
But the birds could. As if reading Lasilia’s displeasure, they swiftly gave chase.
“Aaah! You crazy birds! Can’t you stop?!”
With both hands gripping the railing, Rian couldn’t dodge and was pecked mercilessly. Her neat hair was utterly ruined. In an instant, she disappeared with a nest-like mess atop her head.
“…”
Lasilia, who had been watching the spot where Rian vanished, finally turned away from the window.
This place was truly strange.
Not only could the birds speak—they were clearly on her side.
‘Ah… not my side, but the Empress’s. Are these birds loyal to her?’
Yet again, another mystery piled up.
But of all the unknowns, the one troubling Lasilia most was “contact.”
“Your Imperial Majesty, are you well?”
Marchioness Pashad asked cautiously, watching Lasilia’s expression.
“Shall I have tea prepared? Or perhaps summon a minstrel or poet…?”
“That’s fine. But I have a question.”
“Please speak, Your Imperial Majesty.”
Lasilia asked the Marchioness, who bowed respectfully.
“What exactly does ‘contact’ mean?”
[This is the timeline separator]“Incredible news!”
Rian burst excitedly into the Emperor’s study—once again entering through the window rather than the proper door.
According to Rian, it was often faster that way.
“Shh! His Majesty is still resting.”
“He’s recovering! At times like this, even loud noises won’t wake him. Didn’t you hear me? I have amazing news!”
The moment she shut the window, Rian grabbed Serben’s shoulders and declared. Seeing how thrilled his twin sister was, Serben couldn’t help but feel excited too.
Judging by her expression, it couldn’t be bad news—perhaps she’d found proof the Empress was genuine.
“What is it? Tell me quickly.”
“The Empress changed outfits for tonight’s meeting. Guess what she wore.”
“No, don’t make me guess—just tell me. You know I’m terrible at this.”
“Sleepwear.”
Rian had wanted to tease Serben a bit longer, but her mouth itched too much to hold back.
“Sleepwear? But she was already wearing that during the day.”
“No—she took out and put on the wedding-night sleepwear.”
“Huh… what did you say?”
Serben blinked in surprise.
“Well, that means…”
The reply came from behind them.
“Does it mean she intends to share my bed?”
It was Reskal.

“Your Majesty!”
Reskal was already awake, seated on the sofa, slowly smiling.
“I’m looking forward to tonight.”

The relationship with Ternaden looks really strange. I mean, the way he behaves around her is so suspicious.
And now I’m even more convinced that Lasilia simply saw Cartagena die because of the ritual, and that’s why she possessed the body and brought back the mark Cartagena used to have, because she is his fated match.
I love Reskal. He’s totally in ‘I saw my chance and I took it’ mode hahahahaha, and since Lasilia is still playing her memory loss card, she can’t question anything he says. I love this man.
Even so, the whole Delarta thing still bothers me. I don’t understand why she’s in such a rush to go there because she’s no longer a prophetess; she’s not Lasilia, she’s Cartagena. Even if she knows the truth, she won’t be able to do anything because she’ll be in the exact same position as she is as Empress—who is going to believe her?
Ugh, I’m still Team Reskal. This man is just everything that is good in this world. He brings her roses, looks for ways to be alone with her, and even moves in just to be with her all the time. And on top of that, he builds her a temple so she can have her prayers to heal… is there anything he can’t do right? hahaha.
The stone seems important; let’s wait and see what comes out of that later.
