How to Divorce a Obsessive Emperor Safely (Completed Main Story) - Chapter 3
Demons made a pact with a human sorcerer to remain on the mortal plane.
The terms of the pact bound the demon’s blood to a human in exchange for maintaining a human body.
From then on, the demon’s blood always manifested in a pair—one demon and one human. The destined partner, known as the fated companion, was born in rotation among the Empire’s five noble houses. These five houses, whose lineage descended from the original sorcerer, became the central pillars of the Empire alongside the imperial family.
“I’ll go first.”
Shhk!
Rian sheathed her sword at her waist.
Normally, Rian preferred lounging on the floor of the imperial study, and more often than not left her sword unbuckled because it got in the way.
“If I tell His Majesty in advance that I’m going, who knows where he’ll vanish off to by then.”
Rian was serious. And cautious.
It was certain that Cartagena Pielion had been born as Reskal’s fated companion. In the year of Cartagena’s birth, House Pielion—one of the five noble houses—publicly declared it and revealed the mark on her body as proof of their bond.
Until Reskal and Cartagena formally married four years ago, no one doubted this fact.
The demon’s blood and its human counterpart always appeared as a pair. Though in past generations, emperors occasionally manifested with little to no demonic traits—and thus their companions were never born—Cartagena was born shortly after Reskal.
The mark was undeniable proof.
Those born as a pair were said to sense each other’s presence without even seeing one another. Moreover, “contact,” the method used to control the demon’s blood, was supposed to take immediate effect.
Yet, for four years since their marriage, the Empress had avoided contact under every possible excuse.
No one knew why. Only Rian and Serben suspected the Empress might be an impostor.
However, in the year of Cartagena’s birth, the High Priest himself verified the mark. During the engagement ceremony, Reskal had also seen the mark. As long as the mark existed, Cartagena could not be doubted.
That was the problem.
The Empress was tormenting Reskal by wielding her irreplaceable existence as a weapon. That was precisely why the two shadow knights gritted their teeth whenever Empress Cartagena was mentioned.
Especially Rian, who firmly believed the false Empress must be deposed before it was too late, and the true companion found.
“Today, I absolutely cannot miss my chance.”
Reskal would soon turn thirty.
If he failed to control the demon’s blood before then, he might lose his humanity entirely and become a full demon.
Since no such case had ever occurred in imperial history, no one knew exactly what would happen—but the rapidly worsening symptoms clearly indicated his demonic nature was growing stronger.
“I feel the same. But could you leave your sword with me?”
Serben held out his hand toward Rian.
“Why?”
“The image of you threatening Her Majesty the Empress with a blade to her throat keeps coming to mind. She is still the Empress, after all.”
Rian shook her head, her expression utterly devoid of amusement.
“It’s not impossible. As His Majesty’s royal guard, my duty is to protect him. If Her Majesty continues using contact as a hostage to threaten His Majesty, I have every reason to draw my sword.”
“Sigh… You’re serious, Your Majesty.”
Knowing his twin sister’s temperament better than anyone, Serben turned to Reskal for help.
But Rian had already swiftly slipped out of the study, sword at her side.
“Ah! Rian!”
Serben reached out, but it was too late. Shamelessly, Rian had escaped through the window instead of the door.
“I’d better hurry. Before Rian causes trouble.”
Serben quickly opened the study door.
In that brief moment, the scales had grown to the size of half a fingernail. Reskal, gripping his wrist—now hardening and blackening like a demon’s—began to walk.
Contact could no longer be delayed.
Though he didn’t want to, he might have to negotiate with the Empress about contact today.
Fortunately, the Empress’s quarters weren’t far.
And the Empress, who was said to suffer from amnesia, remained quietly holed up in her chambers.
[This is the timeline separator]“Her Majesty the Empress! His Imperial Majesty Reskal Lovaniellen Parken, Emperor of the Eliaeden Empire, descendant of the noblest blood flowing from the highest point of the continent, approaches!”
It hadn’t been long since she’d dismissed her maids.
Lasilia, who had barely managed to secure some time alone to gather her thoughts, now had to receive the Emperor unexpectedly.
Prophets were usually composed by nature.
Lasilia had never once considered herself the flustered type.
Life in the temple had always been tranquil, and only the most cryptic prophecies ever unsettled her—and even those had become familiar after she turned twenty-five.
Yet ever since awakening as the Empress of the Empire, she felt as though she’d done nothing but panic.

“Wait, just a moment!”
Only upon hearing the Emperor had arrived did Lasilia suddenly realize she was still in her nightclothes.
Dismissing all her maids had been a mistake.
Frantically, Lasilia opened the nearest drawer-like furniture she could see. But it was filled only with perfumes and jewels—no trace of proper attire anywhere.
“I shall open the door!”
Grrr… Boom!
Moreover, the Emperor of the Empire seemed like someone who didn’t know how to wait.
Ignoring her response entirely, the bedroom door swung wide open.
“Wai—… …Sigh.”
It was already too late.
Further embarrassment was pointless.
Lasilia ended her fluster with a short sigh and turned to face the Emperor.
Whether or not she was truly ill, wearing nightclothes shouldn’t be a major issue under the circumstances.
“Mi—”
But the moment she turned—and met those dazzling, shimmering golden eyes—
She nearly blurted out, “Are you mad?” Lasilia barely managed to clamp her own mouth shut.
Those eyes were unforgettable. He was the man from her dreams.
‘Mmp… Sosa.’
Her body froze.
Those golden eyes felt like blades piercing straight through her chest.
“I heard you weren’t feeling well… Seems it’s true, judging by the fact you haven’t even changed clothes.”
How much time had passed?
When she could no longer bear those flashing golden eyes and squeezed her own shut, the Emperor finally spoke.
At his words, Lasilia slowly exhaled and opened her eyes. The Emperor was staring intently at her face.
“It’s not that I’m unwell… I’ve lost my memory.”
Lasilia forced her stiff lips to move.
Every word was spoken with caution.
The Emperor’s golden eyes were too dazzling. One careless glance, and she feared she’d be drawn in, spouting words without knowing what she was saying.
Lasilia still hadn’t decided whether to keep pretending to have amnesia or reveal her true identity right now.
But here, she was recognized as the Empress. Even if uncertain, claiming to be someone else while holding the Empress’s status would never be easily accepted.
Politically and socially, it would spark an extremely complicated crisis.
“I don’t even know who I am right now, so I wasn’t prepared to meet anyone.”
It was both an excuse for still wearing nightclothes and a polite request for him to leave, given the circumstances.
Lasilia still needed time to sort out her thoughts.
“So that’s why. It’s strange—you seem like a different person.”
Though he surely heard her, the Emperor spoke as if distracted.
He tilted his chin slightly in puzzlement and stepped forward decisively.
Lasilia immediately retreated a step.
“Forgive my boldness, but I don’t even recognize Your Majesty’s face.”
In other words, regardless of their marital status, he was merely a stranger to her now.
“That doesn’t matter.”
“…?”
One thing was certain, however.
The Emperor likely didn’t care for the Empress at all.
She still didn’t know if the woman in his dreams was the Empress or not. But judging by his actions now, he clearly didn’t treat her with any special regard. Above all, he paid no heed whatsoever to what the Empress said.
Closing the distance Lasilia had just put between them with inhuman speed, the Emperor abruptly seized her shoulders.
“Please don’t, Your Majesty.”
Lasilia tried to push him away, but no matter how hard she struggled, the Emperor didn’t budge an inch.
“You can’t avoid me today.”
Those gleaming golden eyes were far too close. Staring into them felt blinding, yet she couldn’t close her eyes—not knowing what he might do next.

“It’s not avoidance… I’m just confused from losing my memory. If you could just give me some time…”
“There’s no time.”
“Huh…?”
Lasilia, unable to comprehend his words, frowned slightly and whispered in confusion.
“…Different.”
Murmuring this, the Emperor suddenly buried his face in her neck.
She heard him inhale sharply against her skin.
“Huh!”
Flustered, Lasilia stomped hard on the Emperor’s foot—an act of desperation since pushing him away was useless.
“Oh, dear.”
“Wow, now he’s doing things like that too.”
The knights standing like shadows behind the Emperor each muttered a remark.
Even with all her strength stomping on his foot, the Emperor didn’t flinch.
‘He’s insane. Why is he acting like this?’
The hand gripping her shoulder was scorching hot. Having lived secluded in the temple all her life, Lasilia had no immunity to another’s body heat.
She hadn’t even known human warmth could be this intense—and even if equally hot, a person’s warmth felt entirely different from that of a hearth.
After inhaling deeply once more, the Emperor this time pressed his lips against her skin.
Unable to endure it any longer, Lasilia reflexively cried out.
“Don’t!”
Everyone was startled.
The Emperor’s knights flinched, and Lasilia herself froze in shock.
“…Then.”
Even more astonishing was the Emperor’s reaction.
He writhed as if deeply reluctant, then finally released Lasilia with visible reluctance.
Quickly putting distance between them, Lasilia covered her neck—the spot his lips had just touched—and spoke.
“I’m terribly confused and embarrassed. Please leave now.”
The Emperor stared at her just as intently as before and slowly replied.
“I don’t want to go.”
“Your Majesty.”
Glaring at him in exasperation, she watched as he raised both hands in surrender.
“Then.”
“Thank you for your understanding. I also hope you’ll understand that my current attire makes it inappropriate for me to see you out.”
“…”
Whether his reluctance to leave was genuine or not, the Emperor finally, very slowly, lifted his feet to depart.
Before stepping out the bedroom door, he turned back to look at Lasilia.
“When will your memory return?”
“I don’t know, Your Majesty.”
“I hope it never does.”
“…”
What on earth did that mean?
“I’ll return for now. I’ll see you again this evening.”
Boom.
The door shut firmly, as if refusing to hear any objection.
[This is the timeline separator]“What on earth was that just now, Your Majesty?”
After leaving the Empress’s chamber, Rian could no longer contain herself and spoke up.
“You embraced Her Majesty? Was that even possible?”
Beside her, Serben nodded vigorously, his expression screaming that he’d been dying to ask the same thing.
As far as the two knights knew, there had never been such intimate contact between Reskal and the Empress. The Empress had always avoided it, and Reskal himself—who should have been desperate—had shown no eagerness for contact either.
To be precise, Reskal disliked physical contact with humans, likely due to his demon blood. Even his fated companion, the Empress, was no exception.

His senses, several times more sensitive than a human’s, made him loathe touch.
“Today… well, yes. Her scent was pleasant.”
With this answer, Reskal only astonished his knights further.
“Scent? You mean Her Majesty’s scent? But you always said you disliked her smell and avoided getting close!”
“Today was different.”
“Different? How? Did Her Majesty secretly hire some master perfumer?”
Surprisingly, Reskal seriously considered Rian’s flustered question.
“It wasn’t perfume. It was just her natural scent. In fact, it was exactly the same.”
“Then why…?”
“I don’t know. The same scent felt different today. I wanted to keep smelling it.”
“Huh?”
Rian’s mouth hung open, and Serben frantically ran his hands through his hair in bewilderment.
“That’s just… why all of a sudden…”
At that moment—
“Your Majesty! Your hand! Look at your hand!”
Rian suddenly lunged at Reskal and grabbed his wrist.
“The scales!”
“Oh…”
It was true.
Just before meeting the Empress, scales had been sprouting on the inside of his wrist—but now it was completely smooth.
Normally, his body would revert to human form only after the Blue Moon passed, but such an extreme and rapid change had never happened before.
Eyes wide with disbelief, Rian muttered under her breath.
“Hah, what…? So Her Majesty the Empress… was real after all?”

Rahzel Everlasting Chapter 10The relationship with Ternaden looks really strange. I mean, the way he behaves around her is so suspicious.
And now I’m even more convinced that Lasilia simply saw Cartagena die because of the ritual, and that’s why she possessed the body and brought back the mark Cartagena used to have, because she is his fated match.
Rahzel Everlasting Chapter 11I love Reskal. He’s totally in ‘I saw my chance and I took it’ mode hahahahaha, and since Lasilia is still playing her memory loss card, she can’t question anything he says. I love this man.
Even so, the whole Delarta thing still bothers me. I don’t understand why she’s in such a rush to go there because she’s no longer a prophetess; she’s not Lasilia, she’s Cartagena. Even if she knows the truth, she won’t be able to do anything because she’ll be in the exact same position as she is as Empress—who is going to believe her?
Rahzel Everlasting Chapter 12Ugh, I’m still Team Reskal. This man is just everything that is good in this world. He brings her roses, looks for ways to be alone with her, and even moves in just to be with her all the time. And on top of that, he builds her a temple so she can have her prayers to heal… is there anything he can’t do right? hahaha.
The stone seems important; let’s wait and see what comes out of that later.

Rahzel Everlasting
I loved this episode. I love Reskal—the guy doesn’t hold back and does whatever he wants, even barging in without waiting for the go-ahead, hahaha. The knights are still great. I love how completely bewildered they are when he hugs Cartagena, and even he doesn’t know why—he just felt different.
She, for a prophet who claims to be calm, reacted quite differently, hahaha. I can just imagine what dinner with the two of them will be like, because I doubt he’ll hold back from saying or doing something.
