You And I Live In Different Worlds (Completed Main Story) - Chapter 7
“You… What on earth are you doing here…?”
“I woke up from sleep.”
Unlike Melie, who felt so flabbergasted she might lose her mind, Edric spoke calmly.
His voice cracked slightly at the end and sounded languidly drawn out, clearly confirming his claim that he’d just woken up.
“Did you just come in? Isn’t it dark? Should I light a candle for you?”
“No! Don’t!”
Melie cried out urgently. Edric withdrew the hand he’d extended toward the candlestick.
“What exactly are you doing here?”
Fumbling in the darkness to gather her clothes, Melie asked.
“I already told you—I fell asleep waiting for you.”
“Why were you waiting for me?”
Having barely succeeded in draping her skirt over herself, Melie asked again as she slipped her arms into her blouse.
“I was just wondering how your meeting went.”
“Oh…”
Realizing she’d put it on backward, she had to take it off and put it on again.
All the while, she kept glancing toward where Edric sat, worried that her eyes might have adjusted to the dark—and that he might now be seeing her bare body. Fortunately, there was no sign of that yet.
“It was… just fine.”
“Just fine how?”
Finally getting her clothes properly on, she was now ready to button them up.
Too busy fumbling with the buttons, she had no time to pay attention to Edric’s slightly insistent tone.
“He didn’t seem like a bad person.”
Just that we weren’t quite compatible—but she had no chance to say that either,
since she needed to tuck the blouse hem properly into her skirt.
“That’s good, then. So now we just need to set a wedding date, right?”
“I guess so…”
Melie didn’t even know what she was saying anymore.
“So you’re happy?”
“Huh? Happy about what…?”
Now that her clothes were finally neat and she could focus on his words, a new complication suddenly clouded her thoughts.
“I asked if you’re happy about getting married.”
Because Edric had somehow drawn close without her noticing and was now looking down at her from right in front of her.
Perhaps due to the darkness, he looked unusually large. Was that why? An inexplicable sense of pressure made Melie shiver involuntarily.
“Are you… angry? Because I went to that meeting without asking?”
Melie asked cautiously.
As soon as she said it, she realized the implication sounded strange.
It almost sounded like they were in a romantic relationship!
“I… I just meant…”
“There’s no reason for me to be angry.”
Cutting off Melie’s flustered explanation, Edric let out a low chuckle.
“Why would I be angry that you’re marrying someone decent? Doesn’t that make sense?”
“…”
“I’m just worried…”
Edric reached out his hand.
Melie suddenly found it hard to breathe.
Because his hand landed right on the front of her chest.
“I’m afraid you might get hurt. You don’t understand men.”
With that, he undid one button on her shirt.
“Don’t assume what you see is all there is. Women often think men are simpler than they are…”
Another button came undone under his fingers.
“But no creature calculates as meticulously as men do when choosing a partner. Attraction or love is merely an excuse to test someone against your own measure.”

“…”
Edric’s low voice resonating softly in the darkness, coupled with his actions, sharpened Melie’s senses intensely.
Her heart pounded as if it might burst, while a strange warmth spread through her lower abdomen.
But soon Melie was overcome with shame over the indecent thoughts she’d briefly entertained and wished she could vanish into a mouse hole.
Edric’s hand didn’t move any lower. He had only wanted to fix the buttons she’d fastened wrong.
She hadn’t realized that in her haste to button up in the dark, her shirt had been misaligned.
“T-thanks for the advice. I’ll keep it in mind.”
Desperate to hide her thundering heartbeat, Melie quickly stepped back.
“Advice? I was just worried for my naive friend—that’s all.”
Edric’s voice was impossibly gentle and caring.
“Go get some rest now, Melie.”
“Okay…”
As Edric passed by her, he lightly ruffled her hair.
It was a gesture she’d always received from him. Naturally, the sentiment behind it must be the same as always—completely ordinary.
“Melie.”
Just as he reached the door, Edric suddenly turned around and called her name.
“I hope, as you said, that Sir Blair truly is a good man.”
“…”
“Sleep well.”
After offering her a smile as bright as spring sunshine, he left the room.
Melie’s legs gave way instantly, and she sank right where she stood.
“That was close.”
She’d nearly revealed her feelings.
She clearly needed to figure something out.
Resting her chin on her knees, which she’d drawn up to her chest, Melie decided to start considering something she’d never thought about before.
Her marriage to Sir Blair.
[This is the timeline separator]The meeting with Sir Blair, which Melie had expected to happen in two or three days, took place the very next day after their visit to the opera house.
Given his age and his apparent view of time as precious as gold, he’d likely wanted to get things over with quickly.
Not long after breakfast, she heard he’d sent a carriage for her.
Although it was too early for a date, Melie understood—he probably couldn’t make time at any other hour.
“Don’t worry about us—take your time and enjoy yourself.”
Receiving her mother’s full expectations, Melie climbed into the carriage. Edric also smiled and wished her a good trip.
After riding for just over half an hour, she arrived at Sir Blair’s mansion.
Though far smaller than the Felton ducal estate, its layout was highly efficient for a businessman like him,
positioning everything and everyone he needed close at hand for immediate access.
Under his guidance, Melie toured various parts of the house.
It wasn’t lavish, but neat and well-organized—in true Blair fashion, there was nothing superfluous or unnecessary.
From the way he treated her, Melie realized he nearly regarded her as the future mistress of the house.
“This room seems suitable for you.”
He led her to a bright, comfortably spacious chamber.
“As long as you don’t fill it with useless things, it should serve well enough.”
His words carried a subtle edge, but by now Melie had come to accept that as simply part of his character.
Besides, such a frugal man wouldn’t likely stray elsewhere—and that was a good thing.
Thinking of her late father, who’d lacked basic life skills and died after a life of reckless indulgence, she felt this match was more than satisfactory.
His age, the noticeable strands of gray in his hair, his sunken, slack cheeks—none of it mattered.
Though she’d spent more than half her life adoring Edric, Melie had never once grown too particular in her standards.
She’d long understood that one rare masterpiece could never serve as the benchmark for judging countless other works.
Moreover, knowing her own place well, she felt this man alone was already far beyond what she deserved.
“Then let me speak plainly.”

While showing her the master bedroom, Sir Blair abruptly proposed.
“How would you feel about marrying me?”
It was truly a proposal fitting of him—so concise and efficient, as if adding flowery language would be a waste of time—that Melie nearly laughed.
But laughter aside—
“I’d like some time to think.”
Melie replied carefully.
“Very well.”
Sir Blair unexpectedly didn’t press her, surprising Melie slightly.
‘He’s surprisingly considerate of others.’
However, she would soon be dumbfounded to discover just how differently he and she defined “some time.”
“While I step quickly to my study, please take this time to consider.”
“…”
Melie couldn’t close her mouth until he’d fully left the master bedroom.
‘He really is an extraordinary man.’
Just moments earlier, she’d noticed his butler lingering outside the bedroom door as if needing to speak with him.
Though admirable—even respectful—that even amid planning a proposal, he kept his mind open to work matters, right now she was simply grateful for his attitude.
Otherwise, she’d have been forced to give an answer on the spot.
‘How would you feel about marrying me?’
Gazing out the window at the tidy garden, Melie pondered her reply to Blair’s proposal.
In truth, she’d already considered marrying him even before his proposal—since last night, in fact, lying awake and turning it over in her mind.
Though she’d initially thought of this marriage as a way to move on from her feelings for Edric, it offered many advantages.
She’d have to marry someday anyway, and this union could bring joy to the late Duchess Felton, to whom she owed so much.
Financial security was a huge benefit, and aside from being stingy and self-centered, Sir Blair himself had no real faults.
Most importantly, the fact that he’d chosen her—a woman with nothing remarkable to offer—convinced her he genuinely liked her, despite his uncharming, blunt demeanor.
Edric had claimed all marriages involved meticulous calculation, but that didn’t seem to apply to this man.
Melie’s heart leaned significantly toward acceptance.
Just then, Sir Blair returned, his steps brisk and hurried.
Melie steeled herself to voice her decision.
“As you suggested, I accept your pro—”
“Oh, I’ve given it some thought.”
Sir Blair suddenly interrupted her.
“Since you’re still quite young, it wouldn’t be right to press you for an immediate answer.”
“…?”
“I urge you to consider it calmly for a few days. Please go home for now, and I’ll send my carriage within a few days. I’d be very grateful if you could give me your answer then.”
His words were so perfectly reasonable they felt oddly unfamiliar.
‘What’s going on? Why would a man who seemed ready to demand an answer right away suddenly change his approach like this?’
Puzzled, Melie tilted her head in confusion.

Intro
Dong Xia lost her memory.
Her handsome and extremely powerful fiancé Li Qing comforted her: “It’s okay if you can’t remember. I’ll always be with you.”
Everyone thought Dong Xia’s ancestors must have burned incense to get such a perfect fiancé. He was the number one person in the immortal realm, yet he remained chaste and only loved her.
…
The day before marrying her fiancé, Dong Xia finally remembered everything.
She wasn’t suffering from memory loss at all.
Her arch-enemy had made her fake her death, destroyed her cultivation, replaced her memories, and pretended to be her deeply in love fiancé.
No wonder he said, “It’s okay if you can’t remember”!
Dong Xia laughed coldly as she pulled out her long knife: Li Qing, prepare to die 🙂
*
Li Qing, as the supreme being of the immortal realm, was the people’s shining beacon.
The only unknown stain in his life was his affection for Dong Xia, the ruler of the demon realm.
In the final battle of the war between immortals and demons, the sky collapsed and the earth shattered. The ruler of the demon realm was finally slain under the sword of the supreme being of the immortal realm, and everyone in the immortal realm applauded.
The cultivation world lost a ruler of the demon realm.
And in the back mountain of Li Qing’s cave dwelling, he secretly hid away a fiancée.

Seeing tears from someone who rarely cried pierced Edric’s heart.
Yup, he’s tormenting her. Saying that to make her feel miserable.
Sajida Chapter 11 — Paragraph 21‘It’s because the tea at your house tastes awful.’
Haha! I liked Edric’s thinking. If only he had said it right to her face. But he is noble and does not speak badly in front of a person.
