You And I Live In Different Worlds (Completed Main Story) - Chapter 2
Haaam—!
Oz, walking out with a yawn so wide it felt like her mouth would split, stopped abruptly in surprise at the kitchen door.
She glanced up at the wall clock, wondering if she’d overslept.
Six o’clock in the morning.
She had indeed woken up properly.
“Why did you get up so early, Miss Melie?”
“I just… woke up early.”
Melie, leaning against the shelf, replied with a faint smile.
In truth, it was a lie.
Shocked by what she’d witnessed the previous night, Melie hadn’t slept a wink all night.
Her slightly haggard complexion was evidence enough, but Oz, still half-asleep, failed to notice.
“Well, that happens sometimes. But since you’re up so early, why not take a walk instead of hanging around here? You really shouldn’t keep acting like a servant—you’re a noble young lady.”
A noble lady, living as a dependent… right.
Melie answered only with a bitter smile.
“I’ve brewed some tea. Have a cup and get to work.”
“Oh, how thoughtful of you!”
Oz happily took the teapot Melie offered and poured herself a cup. The delicate aroma filled her nostrils with fragrant steam. Oz responded to Melie’s kindness with a blissful expression.
“Your tea always has such a refined scent, no matter when I drink it. That must be why His Grace only asks for tea made by you, right?”
“…”
Melie didn’t deny it.
Beneath his gentle and generous exterior, Edric was actually a man with extremely particular tastes.
Especially when it came to tea—if it didn’t suit his palate even slightly, he wouldn’t touch it.
Melie meticulously counted out the tea leaves, strictly adhered to the precise temperature and steeping time, and patiently catered to his exacting preferences—something no one else could manage, but she alone had achieved.
“Oh, right!”
Oz abruptly pulled her lips away from her teacup as if she’d just remembered something important.
“Her Ladyship says she plans to move down to the southern estate once His Grace gets married.”
Once he gets married…
Though those words pierced Melie’s already troubled heart like a dagger, she gave no sign of it and kept the conversation going.
“…Why down there?”
“What else? Because of the new mistress, of course.”
“…”
“Well, she doesn’t want to make her daughter-in-law uncomfortable. These days, mothers-in-law are the ones watching their daughters-in-law’s moods, after all.”
Unable to think of anything else to say, Melie remained silent and simply listened.
Though Oz was unmarried, she seemed well-informed about modern marriage customs, likely from stories she’d heard from her married friends.
Melie listened listlessly to Oz’s chattering, which carried a hint of mockery regarding all the things Lady Felton would simultaneously gain and lose through her exceptional daughter-in-law.
“In my opinion, someone as perfect as Miss Rosalyn might actually be a bit too much for Her Ladyship. She might even end up having to serve her daughter-in-law! It’d probably be far more comfortable to take in a slightly less capable daughter-in-law she could mold to her own liking…”
Melie didn’t fully agree with Oz’s words, but she nodded anyway—after all, in her current state of mind, it was all she could manage.
‘Marriage… daughter-in-law…’
Each word turned into a sharp shard of metal, mercilessly stabbing her heart. Yet compared to what Oz said next, even that pain was nothing.
“And she plans to come back up here about ten months later.”
“Why ten months later?”
“Well, that’s when the baby will be born, of course.”
“…Baby?”
“Oh my, didn’t you know? They’ve set the wedding date to match Miss Rosalyn’s menstrual cycle so she can conceive right after the ceremony.”
“…”
“How lovely their child will be! I hope it’s a son who takes after His Grace.”
“A daughter would be fine too—as long as she takes after Edric…”
Melie said firmly.
Recalling last night’s shocking scene, she couldn’t help but say those words even more emphatically.
‘This isn’t right. It just can’t happen.’

She bit down hard on her lips.
[This is the timeline separator]Shortly after her conversation with Oz, Melie carefully carried two teacups and made her way to Edric’s quarters.
Edric sat in an armchair by the window, bathed in morning sunlight. Dressed in a navy satin robe over his nightclothes and reading a small book, he looked far too elegant to be someone who’d just woken up.
“Um… Edric. Can I talk to you for a moment?”
“Of course.”
He turned his eyes from his book toward Melie and gave her a gentle smile.
His blue eyes, visible behind his thin-rimmed glasses, gleamed like polished agate.
“What could possibly bring you to my room this early in the morning?”
Seeing the anticipation in his gaze made Melie even more uneasy.
“It’s just that…”
Edric closed his book and removed his glasses, clearly focusing all his attention on Melie’s words.
“It’s actually about Ro…”
“Oh, by the way, Rosalyn seems to think very highly of you.”
Melie had finally mustered the courage to speak the truth after nervously biting her lips several times—but in that brief pause, Edric had already begun speaking first.
He continued, his eyes filled with respect for Rosalyn.
“She said you seem like a thoughtful and composed girl. She’d like to make you her younger sister, if you’re agreeable—Rosalyn doesn’t have any sisters of her own.”
“…”
Would it truly be right to disappoint him, when he thought so highly of his fiancée?
Melie felt her courage slowly fading. Yet, had she not seen it herself, perhaps she could have pretended ignorance. But having witnessed that inappropriate scene, she couldn’t simply look away. It was better to face the pain now than later.
“Edric.”
At the resolute tone in Melie’s voice, Edric tilted his head slightly. His well-groomed blond hair slid over his forehead, revealing his handsome eyebrows through the parted strands.
Melie squeezed her eyes shut and blurted it out in one breath.
“That woman—she’s in a romantic relationship with that foster sibling who came with her yesterday.”
It was so difficult to say that her hands trembled, but Melie had decided she must tell him the truth clearly so he could accept it quickly.
“I saw them in the hallway. They were kissing there—very… deeply.”
“…”
For a long while, Edric said nothing.
Instead, his previously tilted head had straightened, and his arms were now firmly crossed over his chest like a bolted gate.
‘Is he in shock?’
But his gaze seemed oddly detached.
He didn’t appear shocked or angry—more like utterly blank.
Confused by his unexpected reaction, Melie chewed her lips anxiously before finally asking, just in case.
“Could it be… you don’t believe what I’m saying?”
“No. I believe you.”
He answered without the slightest hesitation.
“I believe everything you say, from start to finish.”
“Then why do you look like that?”
Melie tilted her head, utterly perplexed. A soft chuckle escaped Edric’s lips.
“Because it doesn’t matter.”
“…”
“Didn’t I tell you once? Marriage is a union between houses. The other party’s purity is irrelevant, Melie.”
“But even so…”
“All that matters is that any child Rosalyn bears will be mine. Keeping a mistress is perfectly acceptable.”
Edric spoke with astonishing calmness.
His expression was entirely devoid of emotion, and his tone as composed as if he were reading from a book.
“Melie, most people in high society are like this. Marriage and love are separate matters. Of course, it’d be ideal if they coincided.”
Melie knew this all too well—it was common knowledge.
Yet even if it was a political marriage, it was still a marriage. Even if it didn’t begin with love, shouldn’t it at least begin with trust? Even if it eventually fell apart later?
Even a tower built on solid ground could collapse under pressure—so what kind of ending awaited one built on shaky foundations from the start?

Was this how all high nobles thought?
To permit such immoral behavior so casually…
“…!”
Suddenly, Melie felt compelled to ask.
“Will you do the same? Will you… keep a mistress too?”
Please, let the answer be no.
Even if everyone else in high society behaved that way, Melie desperately wished Edric would be different. Even if he could never love her, she still hoped he would remain faithful in his own marriage.
If he openly kept a mistress after marriage, it would hurt her just as deeply as never being seen as a woman by him at all.
“No.”
“…”
“Even if it’s tacitly allowed, it’s not a pretty sight—and it’s likely to cause unnecessary trouble.”
At Edric’s words, Melie let out an unconscious sigh of relief.
At least she now knew her ten-year-long unrequited love hadn’t been wasted on someone unworthy.
“Surely, Melie…”
Seeing Melie’s tense shoulders relax with relief, Edric gave a small, knowing smile.
“Are you really worried I might fall into depravity?”
“…”
“Don’t worry. That won’t happen.”
Edric reached out and lightly ruffled Melie’s hair.
“No one can shake me. I promise you that.”
Then he reopened his book and put his glasses back on.
Melie gazed for a moment at his blue eyes and long lashes visible through the thin lenses before quietly stood and left the room.
She’d thought confessing to him would lighten her heart—but instead, she felt even more tangled and confused.
To proceed with the marriage while fully aware of his fiancée’s betrayal…
It worried her deeply, yet she was also relieved he wasn’t more hurt. And yet, somehow, he now felt strangely unfamiliar to her.
‘I knew… but…’
Edric Felton was a man who appeared warm on the outside, yet turned out astonishingly cold and rational upon closer contact.
‘No one can shake me. I promise you that.’
His confident voice echoed in Melie’s ears all the way back to her quarters.

Male lead is reincarnated to save his wife
I’ve also read this one twice already. The female lead is kinda soft and gets embarrassed easily—not really my type, but the plot is definitely worth reading. Hurry up and read it, y’all!

Intro
When Shen Yuan encountered Su Jin again in his previous life, she had already become the Prime Minister of the current dynasty. As for him, the former top young master of the capital, he had long since fallen into the abyss, becoming a singer on a pleasure boat.
After a song ended, he was redeemed and sent to the Su Residence.
Su Jin respected and cherished him, gave him a roof over his head, and bestowed him with warmth. Shen Yuan fell deeper and deeper, but before he could express his feelings, Su Jin passed away.
Shen Yuan died to follow her in death, but instead, he returned to when he was fifteen years old.
At that time, he was not yet engaged, and Su Jin was just a poor scholar.
Shen Yuan gritted his teeth, casting aside all his pride, and thought of ways to coax and entice her every day.
The colder and more indifferent Su Jin was towards him, the more proactive Shen Yuan became.
He was not afraid of being mocked by the world, only wanting to marry his Wife-master early, to hold her hand and never let go for a lifetime.
[Note: This story will not specifically point out the male lead’s reincarnation time point; it’s all in the details. Whenever you feel that the male lead is acting strangely, he has most likely been reincarnated.]

Seeing tears from someone who rarely cried pierced Edric’s heart.
Yup, he’s tormenting her. Saying that to make her feel miserable.
Sajida Chapter 11 — Paragraph 21‘It’s because the tea at your house tastes awful.’
Haha! I liked Edric’s thinking. If only he had said it right to her face. But he is noble and does not speak badly in front of a person.
