‘It’s the Second Prince. I thought he was quiet, but apparently not.’

The guard bared his few remaining blackened teeth and chuckled.

‘I mean, he’s always seen doting on a stunning beauty, right? They say there’s hardly anyone in the capital who hasn’t seen her—she’s constantly glued to his side.’

Amy blinked slowly. The Second Prince she remembered was just a boy—how could he already have a lover? She must truly have been locked away for a very long time. She felt anew the cruel passage of time.

‘I don’t know what happened between him and the new Crown Prince, but at first they were locked in a power struggle, and lately things have gone quiet. Probably the Second Prince gave up his claim to the throne. Otherwise, the former Crown Prince wouldn’t just leave the Second Prince alone—he’d torment him to death.’

Amy didn’t even have the energy to snort; she just stayed silent. The guard, seemingly not expecting a reply, returned to his tale of the Second Prince.

‘It’s only just come out that the Second Prince has been traveling all across the empire with his lover for ages. They say there’s hardly a place they haven’t visited—he only came to the capital last.’

The guard shook his head in disbelief.

‘Who could’ve imagined it? That quiet Second Prince, who never left his own palace, would go traipsing all over the country just because his beloved wanted to. Love really is a mysterious thing, isn’t it?’

Amy, who had been staring blankly into space, closed her eyes and silently agreed. That really was true.

“Lady Amy, please sit here.”
