Se Hyun said with a wry smile, speaking candidly.

“The Taean land was transferred to Pyeongan Industrial Development one year before the bankruptcy filing—so one could reasonably conclude the land was handed over to Pyeongan first, and *then* bankruptcy was declared.”

“If you’ve considered it but don’t think that way now, does that mean your current stance is different?”

Ga Eul asked urgently. Her father couldn’t possibly be such a shameless criminal. Anxiety scorched her chest.

“It seems President Han Myeong Hoon isn’t a criminal—but rather, a victim.”

Ga Eul sank back against the sofa cushions—but quickly sat upright again.

No matter what truths she uncovered, she would inevitably face accusations pointing toward her late father. Yet according to Jeong Se Hyun, her father was the *victim*—though admittedly, that might only apply to this specific case.

“Can’t you smell it? Someone siphoned off your father’s assets—and then made sure all the blame fell squarely on him.”

Dae Woon, who’d remained silent until then, finally spoke up.

“Judging by your expression, Miss Ga Eul, I’d better explain quickly why I view your father as a victim.”

“That would be best, Counselor—I’m not exactly known for my patience.”

“Earlier, I explained the role of the Bankruptcy Trustee, correct? The Trustee meticulously investigates whether the debtor concealed assets, deliberately incurred unpayable debts before filing, or engaged in improper or extravagant spending. There’s no way they’d overlook such a massive sum disappearing—like land purchase funds.”

“Naturally, they’d have known.”

“Yet the records show land was purchased—even though your father never actually acquired any. Wouldn’t the Trustee suspect the debtor had diverted funds? Yet the bankruptcy process advanced smoothly, without the slightest objection. Had such a substantial diversion been exposed, the bankruptcy itself would have been invalidated.”
