Apparently, the rumor that the president was absent had already spread. People kept showing up one after another. After Jeong Mi Ho, Ga Eul’s aunt arrived.

Soon after, Hong Su Jin came. Their purpose was one and the same: to persuade President Gi Dae Woong to drop the lawsuit.

“If it’s about that, you’ll have to talk directly to the president. What power do I have?”

“President Gi Dae Woong… he’s just too intimidating… I can’t even bring myself to speak to him. How do you work under someone like that?”

Her aunt waved her hand dismissively, as if Ga Eul were saying something utterly absurd.

“Please, just try reasoning with President Gi Dae Woong on my behalf. Tell him how truly sorry we are. Ga Eul, consider it saving Sung Mok’s life—just ask him to drop the charges against Sung Mok, at least. It’s all my fault. I was greedy. Please make sure he knows we genuinely regret it.”

Hong Su Jin also pleaded with Ga Eul. Gone was the domineering mother of Yoo Sung Mok, who once strutted arrogantly inside Gyeo Wool’s school principal’s office.

Back then, Ga Eul had desperately wanted to appeal to “old ties” but couldn’t. Now, watching Hong Su Jin do exactly that, she still felt no sense of triumph.

How could she possibly ask the president for another favor when she was already mortified—near suicidal—with shame for having confessed her love to a man who already had a fiancée? That was all she could think about.

“Our president isn’t scary at all. He’s actually incredibly sloppy. You just haven’t seen him shuffling around the office in slippers.”

That’s right. The president is exactly that kind of person—someone who lounges on the sofa all day, utterly unwilling to get up.

Despite looking like that, he constantly orders me around: “Bring me coffee,” “Read the latest news article,” “Buy me a hangover remedy”—making him as high-maintenance as raising a child. And yet, he’s engaged!

Ga Eul clenched her teeth, forcing back the urge to blurt out the truth about her president—not for his sake, but for her own. She felt ashamed that others knew she worked under someone like him.

“Besides, if I ask, it’ll likely backfire. Our president is the type who automatically resists whatever I suggest. He’s never once just agreed to what I say.”

Yet, no matter what Ga Eul said, the two women interpreted it as her evading their request. So Ga Eul kept elaborating.
