What could I say? It was the first time she’d seen him disheveled like this in the mansion.

The unexpected sight momentarily froze Eun Chae’s brain. Only afterward did she realize that the question she’d blurted out instinctively—without even thinking—had sounded utterly mortified.

“Cat hair.”

“…….”

“They didn’t even give me time to clean it up.”

As he spoke, Kwon Gi Ju pushed his way into the room. His slow, cursory glance sweeping the interior was merely an afterthought.

Eun Chae had indeed called for him, yet she stared in disbelief at his brazenly confident movements. Eventually, accepting that the man paid no mind to her pointed glare, she turned away with a resigned expression.

Her eyes met those of an aide who had just stepped out of another room into the hallway. The aide’s puzzled look clearly asked, Why is that bodyguard here? Without realizing it, Eun Chae gripped the doorknob tightly—then firmly shut the door in plain view, cutting off the gaze.

That simple act alone somehow made her feel oddly smug. Eun Chae took a deep breath in and out before turning her body around.

Her eyes locked with Kwon Gi Ju’s as he turned his head halfway toward her at the sound of her movement. His gaze didn’t seem to ask why she’d summoned him.

“……You didn’t deceive me.”

He raised one eyebrow as if asking what she meant.

“I never even believed that nonsense about your cat allergy.”

She’d burned with the urge to test him—but couldn’t possibly test someone’s illness. Still, since Kwon Gi Ju had come here himself, he’d ended up failing her test unintentionally.

“Don’t take it personally. Even if you told me the sun rises in the east, I wouldn’t believe you.”
