When You Forget Me (Completed Main Story) - Chapter 27

“There’s a cat around the library.”

Someone interrupted the ensemble practice to show a photo of a cat they’d snapped on their phone. Its fur was grimy, likely from wandering the streets for a while, yet its big eyes, sharp nose, and adorable little mouth were unbearably cute.

So it was only natural that Eun Chae dashed straight to the library as soon as practice ended. The problem was, despite turning over every single flowerbed around the library, she hadn’t found even a single strand of fur.

Disappointment plain on her face, Eun Chae slumped onto a bench. She was upset—she’d borrowed two squeezable treats from a friend for nothing—and her phone chose that moment to buzz obnoxiously. She slid it open with her thumb, revealing a brief, clear message:

“Where are you?”

Without hesitation, Eun Chae tapped out a reply to Gi Ju’s message.

“At the library. I’ll head to the parking lot.”

Before she could even press send and turn off the screen, the “1” disappeared from her display.

He’d read it instantly. She didn’t even have time to be surprised by his unexpectedly quick response—his reply arrived immediately.

“Wait right there.”

Reading that message, she oddly felt as though the consonants and vowels were drifting apart. Still pondering its meaning, Eun Chae slipped her phone into her bag—just as a faint meow reached her ears.

Delighted, she scanned left and right and spotted a tiny cat peeking its head out between the flowerbeds. It was so small it clearly hadn’t finished growing yet.

In her eagerness, Eun Chae took a sudden step forward, causing the cat to vanish into the grass, instantly on high alert.

“Oh, sorry, I’m sorry.”

Though the cat couldn’t possibly understand, Eun Chae kept apologizing as she lowered her posture. Calmly, she tore open the seal on the squeezable cat treat.
