It was such a sharp gaze that even the thought of responding vanished for a moment.

Though clearly without ill intent, Lee Kwang Il had to swallow hard under the mounting tension.

“You’ve got the order wrong.”

Han Gi Ju’s abrupt remark left Lee Kwang Il dumbfounded.

“…What?”

As if saying, “Can’t you understand plain speech?”, Gi Ju raised one eyebrow slightly, then lowered both legs from the desk one after the other. He leaned lazily back into his chair and interlaced his fingers over his thighs. His gaze shifted from the computer screen to Lee Kwang Il.

For a brief instant, Kwang Il thought the light was blinding—because the sunlight pouring over Gi Ju’s backlit figure looked just like a halo.

“You’ve got to control Song Eun Chae to properly manage the Chairman.”

Gi Ju tilted his head slightly, as if perplexed by Kwang Il’s continued ignorance, his demeanor resembling that of an adult dealing with a preschooler throwing random, senseless questions.

This felt oddly unpleasant, yet too vague to directly challenge. Besides, it was undeniably true that his favor with Chairman Song Myung Hwan had indeed stemmed significantly from effectively managing Song Eun Chae.

“And….”

Uncharacteristically, Gi Ju’s usually unrestrained lips fell silent. Kwang Il assumed his subordinate had finally remembered their hierarchical positions and grown considerate. This realization made him anxious—he couldn’t afford to miss this unexpected show of goodwill from Gi Ju, who seemed intent on restoring his superior’s dignity.

“That woman’s fate is unfortunate, it’s true—but there’s nothing we can do about it.”

Gi Ju neither confirmed nor denied anything. Instead, the bluish veins at his temples twitched visibly. As if he’d said all he needed to, he watched as Lee Kwang Il stood up and left. The moment the door clicked shut, Gi Ju ground his teeth sharply.
