As quitting time was drawing to a close, Na Rim checked Tae Gyu’s text message and let out a deep sigh.

Just the night before, Shim Ho Seok had shown up again in front of her house. Already unsettled after rejecting Tae Gyu’s proposal, she’d been thrown into further turmoil—and to top it all off, running into Shim Ho Seok had left her utterly distraught.

Last time, he’d hurled all kinds of threats, but now he was pleading desperately for just one more chance. The sight of him grabbing the hem of her pants as she tried to ignore him and head inside had been thoroughly pathetic.

Yet when he saw her unwavering resolve, his expression shifted instantly, and his eyes delivered a heavy, unmistakable warning:

“I’ll make sure you regret this—definitely. And that bastard Yoon Tae Gyu will too.”

It was becoming clear she couldn’t just sit back and do nothing. The first time Shim Ho Seok appeared, she reported him for stalking—but the authorities replied that mere visits alone weren’t punishable offenses.

Still, this was already the fifth time, and his recent words to her went far beyond simple visits. Just in case, she’d saved audio recordings—now was the time to root this out for good.

Such petty threats won’t work on me, Shim Ho Seok.

She decided she’d head straight to the police station first thing tomorrow morning. Just then, as she passed the ER and walked by the first-floor lobby, a familiar name drifted from the TV screen still glowing overhead:

[Earlier today, Shim Won Cheol, parliamentary leader of the K Party, officially announced his resignation from the post. His successor will be elected at the upcoming parliamentary caucus on the 19th. Rep. Shim reportedly declined to specify his reasons for stepping down, stating only that he was now finally making his intentions clear…]

Rep. Shim Won Cheol resigned? Why so suddenly?

Stunned, she froze in place for a moment—then, snapping back to her senses, she pushed open the emergency exit door. Just then, a warm hand settled gently onto Na Rim’s shoulder from behind.

*Thud.* As the emergency door shut, Na Rim whirled around in alarm—and simultaneously, Tae Gyu, having lowered his stance, rested his chin on her opposite shoulder and whispered into her ear:

“Who do you think’s behind this?”

“No way…”
