When I Let Go of Obsession, I Got Obsessed (Completed Main Story) - Chapter 4
A gray clearing blanketed in darkness.
A man cloaked in a deep brown robe entered, glancing around nervously. Fortunately, no one was following him.
Phew.
Just as he was about to sigh in relief, his expression twisted in shock upon spotting another man striding boldly into the clearing. Good heavens.
“Your Highness!”
The man called out in a reproachful tone.
Instead, the other man scolded him.
“Didn’t I tell you not to address me that way outside?”
“That’s precisely why you should at least wear a disguise before saying such things!”
How could he demand not to be called “Your Highness” while walking around so openly?
“It’s nighttime. And people aren’t as interested in others’ faces as you think.”
“Everyone has their own concerns.”
Especially when it comes to handsome faces.
But unwilling to waste precious time on such bickering, the man quickly got to the point.
“Why did you suddenly summon me? Could it be…?”
“…”
“Are you planning to return to the Imperial Palace?”
A flicker of hope briefly lit the man’s steel-gray eyes.
“No.”
“…”
Of course not.
“Then why did you call me if you’re not returning?”
“There’s something I need you to do.”
At the man’s grumpy reply, the other handed him a letter sealed with wax.
“Send this by tomorrow morning.”
“What is it?”
He asked, taking the letter.
“You don’t need to know.”
“Then where should I send it?”
“Number 13, Ant 4th Avenue.”
“Who lives there?”
“Chevyne Claude.”
“Chevyne Claude…”
He wanted to ask who that was, but decided against it, sensing he wouldn’t get an answer anyway. Truthfully, he didn’t need to know.
He was a servant, and the other his sovereign. Even though this wasn’t the Imperial Palace, and the man wasn’t seated on the Crown Prince’s throne, their relationship remained unchanged—and always would.
He tucked the letter into his inner pocket and called out to his lord once more.
“Your Highness.”
“Again?”
“…I’m sorry.”
“What do you want to say?”
The man asked. The servant replied.
“How long will you stay there?”
“…”
“There’s only one season left. Once it passes, the Imperial Throne will…”
“I know.”
The man cut him off.
“I’ll return inside. Without fail.”
Though spoken softly, the servant clearly felt the weight of resolve behind those words.
And the eyes that gleamed fiercely even in the darkness.

Mirabel woke Liz before dawn.
“Hmmm… what is it?”
Liz rubbed her eyes and sat up.
“What do you mean, ‘what is it’? Today’s your meeting with your prospective groom! You didn’t forget, did you?”
“Forget? I remember all too well… Haaam.”
Liz yawned widely, then continued.
“But the meeting isn’t until noon. Why are we starting so early?”
“Oh dear, that’s exactly why we must begin preparing now! Get up quickly, won’t you?”
Overwhelmed by Mirabel’s insistence, Liz reluctantly rose and was promptly dragged to the bathing chamber.
The tub was filled with rose petals, and freshly dropped drops of scented oil shimmered on the water’s surface. Liz slowly sank in, starting from her toes.
The warm water gently eased her stiff morning muscles—it felt wonderful. Might as well steal another nap while she was at it…
“My lady, I’ll give you a massage.”
“Eeek!”
But the waiting maids immediately began pinching her all over, jolting Liz wide awake. Were they secretly torturing her under the guise of a massage?
Liz quickly racked her brain, wondering if she’d done something to offend them recently.
‘Hmm… I don’t think so…’
She’d been a bit wild as a child, but surely they wouldn’t hold that against her now.
Anyway, soaking among petals made her feel oddly… bridal. Like a blushing bride preparing for her wedding night.
Of course, this was merely a meeting—but someday, her own wedding night would come. Once, she’d hoped it would be with Cain, but now…
‘Not in a million years.’
After thoroughly steeping in petals, she was promptly handed over to the dressing maids.
So many lotions and creams were applied to her face she lost count. She’d worn makeup to banquets before, but today seemed especially meticulous.
After all, banquets had flattering lighting—modest effort sufficed. But here, in her own home, with no dazzling chandeliers, she had to rely solely on her natural face.
Mirabel styled her hair.
Liz watched contentedly in the mirror as Mirabel braided and fluffed her locks.
But at the final touch, she frowned slightly.
She disliked how Mirabel meticulously combed her bangs down, leaving no gap on her forehead.
“Mirabel, lift my bangs up.”
At Liz’s request, Mirabel paused her combing.
Careful not to upset her mistress, Mirabel spoke gently.
“Well… my lady, your bangs down make you look younger and prettier.”
But Liz was firm.
“I don’t care about looking younger—just lift them. They’re suffocating me.”
“But I still think…”
Mirabel was genuinely distressed.
However relaxed the meeting was supposed to be, there was a difference between her refusing and the other party rejecting her. To reveal a weakness right from the first meeting… Did her lady not realize her forehead scar was visible?
In truth, Liz’s scar wasn’t very noticeable. Having always looked beyond her reflection to see her fate, what did a mere scar matter compared to the tragic destiny she already knew?
“Oh, alright. I’ll lift them then.”
Swallowing back tears, Mirabel raised the bangs.
Once done, Liz smiled brightly at her.
“See? Much better.”
She admired her round, smooth forehead in the mirror, pleased to see it after so long.
“Y-yes, indeed.”
Mirabel forced a smile.
But inwardly, she thought:
‘Can scars grow? Why does it look bigger than usual today?’
“Shall we go now?”
Liz cheerfully pushed herself up from the armchair.
“Um… my lady.”
Mirabel urgently grabbed her mistress before she could turn away.

“What?”
Liz blinked, eyes wide.
“It’s just…”
This was the hardest thing Mirabel had ever had to say.
“What’s with the hesitation? Spit it out already.”
Pressed by Liz, Mirabel finally spoke.
“C-could we apply a bit more concealer?”
***
Truthfully, Liz had no intention of going through another meeting.
Her only dream was marriage—a wish carried over from her previous life.
It wasn’t simply about longing for a wedding dress.
Having grown up utterly alone without family in her past life, she knew better than anyone how desperately she craved a home.
She didn’t need wealth. A single room would suffice. All she ever wanted was to build a humble household and lovingly raise the child born within it.
She’d died without fulfilling that simple dream, and nearly repeated the same fate in this life—it made her shudder just thinking about it.
She didn’t crave marrying someone better. An ordinary person who’d respect her and walk beside her for life was enough.
Anyway, barring any surprises, the marriage would be settled today.
Looking more delicate than ever, Liz lightly gathered her dress and descended the stairs with Mirabel’s support.
Once she crossed this long corridor, she’d reach the parlor where her fiancé waited.
How should she greet him?
‘Pleased to meet you’?
No.
They’d crossed paths at banquets a few times, so that greeting wouldn’t be quite right.
They might have even exchanged words—what had they talked about?
She couldn’t recall clearly, but it must have been extremely brief. Or perhaps she’d simply ignored him.
Naturally—her mind had been entirely consumed by Cain back then; no other man stood a chance of catching her eye.
Thinking back, it was rather laughable.
She’d nearly lost her future husband while obsessing over someone utterly meaningless.
How heartbroken he must have been by her indifferent replies.
She’d make it up to him for the rest of her life.
So thoroughly, he’d scream from sheer happiness.
Liz steeled her resolve inwardly.
Step by step, she approached the parlor…
But as she drew closer, an odd commotion grew louder.
Sounded like shouting—maybe even cursing.
“What’s going on?”
Liz turned to Mirabel.
Mirabel just shrugged helplessly, equally clueless.
Gripping her skirts, Liz quickened her pace. Mirabel tightened her supporting arm, fearing her mistress’s stiff legs might buckle. They burst into the parlor—
And Liz nearly fainted on the spot.
Young Lord Rubent—her fiancé—was being yanked by the hair and swung around by some woman.
Servants tried to intervene, but to no avail.
Her mother stood helplessly in a corner, stomping her feet in distress.
“What’s happening?”
Liz hurried to her mother, who gave a shocking reply.
“Oh Liz, what are we to do? That woman claims to be Young Lord Rubent’s mistress!”
“…What?”
“He must’ve let it slip that he had a meeting today—she came barging in and started causing a scene! What a disgrace!”
“Yaaah… you womanizer! How dare you treat me like this?!”
The woman’s venomous shriek filled the parlor.
Judging by her grip, Young Lord Rubent’s head wouldn’t survive the day.

How could this possibly happen?
Too absurd for words—it felt unreal, like some over-the-top drama from her past life.
But one thing was certain.
Today’s meeting was utterly ruined.

After the chaos settled, Liz learned the full story from Mirabel.
“Chevyne Claude?”
“Yes, my lady.”
“That’s the mistress’s name?”
“Yes, my lady.”
“She’s a famous singer?”
“Yes, my lady.”
“Mirabel.”
“Yes, my lady.”
“Maybe I should just never get married?”
