When I Let Go of Obsession, I Got Obsessed (Completed Main Story) - Chapter 13
I had a dream.
In the dream, Liz was standing face to face with Lilia.
But why? Why was Lilia’s face, staring back at her, deathly pale?
Liz soon understood the reason.
She was holding a knife in her hand… and had been driving Lilia backward.
Toward the edge of a cliff.
With each step she took, Lilia glanced sideways to check how much ground remained behind her.
Judging by her flushed expression, it seemed very little was left.
‘Stop it, please just stop.’
Liz heard the voice endlessly crying out from within herself, yet she couldn’t easily halt her actions.
In the dream, her body had completely slipped beyond her own will.
“Sister, please don’t do this. It’s for your own sake.”
“For my sake? Did you just say it’s for my sake?”
Liz spoke with a mad smile on her lips.
“The only way to help me is for you to die. Only if you’re gone will Cain love me.”
“Really… is that so?”
“Of course. Once you’re gone, everything will be resolved.”
Liz declared with absolute conviction. At that, Lilia let out a long sigh and then spoke resolutely.
“Alright. Then I’ll disappear for you.”
“……”
“If my death can make you happy, Sister, I’ll gladly die.”
Just as Lilia was about to throw herself off the cliff, Liz’s reason returned.
The sword in her hand fell, cutting her foot, but she paid it no mind.
“No!”
Liz desperately reached out toward her younger sister.
Fortunately, she managed to grab Lilia just in time at the cliff’s edge. Yet, upon grasping her, a strange doubt crept into Liz’s mind—perhaps there had been no need to rush so frantically after all.
Lilia’s calm demeanor, undisturbed even by Liz’s sudden shift in attitude, as if she’d anticipated this entire situation, made that suspicion unavoidable.
But for now, they had to escape this perilous place.
“Let’s go somewhere safe first.”
Liz took Lilia’s hand and tried to pull her away from the cliff’s edge. Suddenly, Lilia jerked her hand free and shouted out of nowhere.
“Eek! Help me!”
“……?”
“Sister, please don’t kill me!”
“……What are you talking about? I never intended to kill you…”
At that very moment, Liz felt a sharp pain slice through her back.
Seizing the opening, Lilia dashed behind Liz, who slowly turned around with a bewildered expression. There stood a man—his face obscured by the sun at his back—holding a bloodstained sword in one hand.
He slowly raised the blade.
The deep crimson blood clinging to the edge trickled down the steel.
Liz saw the tendons bulging in the man’s hands gripping the sword. And then…
“Hah!”
Liz bolted upright in bed.
Her heart pounded violently.
‘Was it a dream?’
It certainly seemed so.
If it hadn’t been a dream, there was no way she could have instantly teleported from a sheer cliff to her own room.
Yet the sensation of the blade cutting into her back felt all too vivid. Had she woken up just a moment later, she surely would have felt her neck being severed.
Liz was certain now.
‘That’s my fate in the original story.’
The destiny she would have inevitably met, had she not become aware of her transmigration.
But what was with Lilia’s duplicity?
Trending
When had she ever claimed she’d die for Liz’s sake, only to instantly switch sides the moment a savior appeared? What was that behavior about?
Could it be because Mirabel kept saying strange things, causing Lilia to appear so distorted even in her dreams?
‘Miss Lilia seems kind on the outside, but inside, she’s probably full of tricks.’
There had been occasional moments when Lilia showed a side different from what Liz had expected.
But until now, Liz had only considered those glimpses as unexpected facets revealed after deciding to see Lilia with fresh eyes. Yet now…
“Ugh! It’s nothing. Dreams are always weird anyway.”
Come to think of it, she never got to see Cain’s real face. She’d been curious.
Because she’d skimmed through the book carelessly, she couldn’t recall anything about the male lead Cain—neither his true name nor his appearance. She vaguely remembered hearing he was astonishingly handsome. Would he look even better than he did now?
Do handsome people stay handsome even if they take medicine to hide their looks?
Either way, it had nothing to do with her. She’d never meet his true self—and she shouldn’t.
Liz wanted to live.
She wanted to live happily.
She wanted to build the family she’d never had in her past life, raise children, and live happily.
Being abandoned by the man she loved—though in a different form—leading to an early death was enough for one lifetime.
If that fate was somehow etched into her soul, she’d rather vanish entirely after this life.
Harboring even self-destructive thoughts, Liz flopped back onto the bed.
Despite her heavy heart, the mattress cushioned her body softly without any bounce, feeling wonderfully comfortable. She felt she could drift off to sleep instantly without any effort.
Closing her eyes, Liz prayed she wouldn’t have another dream like the one before.
Creak-.
Amid her quickly fading consciousness, she heard the sound of the mansion’s front gate hinges opening twice.
Someone must have left and come back—or come in and gone out.
She wasn’t sure which.
She could have checked, but she’d already sunk too deeply into sleep.
Liz let go of consciousness entirely—and grasped it again two hours later.
After a confusing dawn, getting up, eating breakfast, and some time passing…
Mirabel began her work.
“Young miss, hurry to your bath.”
“Again?”
“Again? Today’s such an important day! Hurry up—I’ve already filled the tub with heaps of flower petals.”
Shaking her head at Mirabel’s fussiness, Liz sighed.
She wasn’t even the main guest at today’s coming-of-age ceremony—why go to such lengths?
No one would notice whether or not she smelled nice. That’s just how villainesses were treated.
Still, Liz decided to obediently comply.
Mirabel seemed genuinely devoted.
“Oh my, Miss Mirabel. You’d better pay attention today.”
“Pay attention? Why?”
Mirabel frowned at her junior Monica’s sarcastic tone.
“Our young miss is in peak condition today. The mistress is so concerned—she even gifted her the brand-new ruby set crafted by Sir Ernest himself.”
Wha… what? The ruby set made by the famously elusive jeweler Sir Ernest?
Wait—shouldn’t something like that go to her real daughter first?
Mirabel was flabbergasted.
They gave Miss Liz an outdated set from Marique Jewelers, yet pampered the fake daughter like this?
But Mirabel resolved to stay magnanimous.
“Oh dear, I suppose the mistress just wanted to cover up Miss Lilia’s flaws somehow. Our young miss is beautiful enough without such things. Go ahead and dress your mistress beautifully.”
Monica’s face twisted unpleasantly. Satisfied by the sight, Mirabel turned away—
Only for her own smile to vanish instantly.
Lilia had been standing right behind her.
Slightly flustered, Mirabel quickly bowed her head respectfully.
As she tried to brush past to return to Liz…
“You’re right.”

Lilia’s words made her stop in her tracks.
“You and I aren’t comparable from birth. That’s what you wanted to say, isn’t it?”
“Well…”
Of course, that was exactly what she’d wanted to say—but hearing it stated so bluntly left her speechless. And she shouldn’t say it aloud anyway. After all, Lilia was still the young lady born of the master’s bloodline.
“But just because one starts lowly doesn’t mean one must remain so forever. How can you be sure you won’t one day bow your head at my feet?”
“……”
An inexplicable pressure stiffened Mirabel’s body.
Monica quickly stepped beside Lilia and commanded Mirabel sharply.
“Apologize to her at once, Miss Mirabel.”
“No, it’s fine. Mirabel only spoke the truth.”
“……”
“What I wanted to say is…”
Lilia slowly blinked her large eyes and continued.
“Watch your words. You mustn’t tarnish the noble face of your esteemed elder sister, Mirabel.”
With that, Lilia turned and headed toward her quarters, while Monica followed behind with a smug, satisfied grin.
Mirabel felt uneasy.
Had Miss Lilia always been this eloquent? And that gaze…
Yet she never uttered a single crude, improper, or unbecoming word.
Mirabel grew anxious.
Somehow, she felt Miss Liz’s position was being increasingly threatened.
“It’s pretty! Why would Mother gift me a full jewelry set all of a sudden?”
Liz happily examined the jewel case, and Mirabel looked at her with pained eyes.
“But it’s not even the latest fashion.”
“So what if it’s not the latest? What matters is that Mother gave it to me. She’s finally acting like a mother—always hoarding everything for herself before.”
Clueless, Liz held a topaz earring to her ear and smiled contentedly.
Mirabel already pictured how disappointed her young miss would be upon seeing her stepsister’s brand-new ruby set. Her heart ached.
“Um… young miss.”
“Yes?”
“No matter what happens at the ball, you must simply accept it, alright?”
“What kind of thing?”
“Just… anything.”
Though unsure what exactly she meant, Liz agreed.
“Let me style your hair. Do you have a preferred look?”
“Pull up my bangs.”
Mirabel’s expression hardened again. As expected.
“I’m sorry, young miss, but could you just let me handle it my way today?”
“I’m sorry too, Mirabel.”
Today, Liz couldn’t yield.
“I’m done hiding my scar. It’s not even that noticeable anymore—and besides, covering it up like this feels suffocating.”
“……”
It wasn’t because of Lilia’s words. Liz simply didn’t want to wear that hairstyle anymore.
Why did other people’s opinions matter so much anyway? She should just do what she wanted.
She’d thought exactly that when confronting Cain too—and got thoroughly rejected for it. Well, maybe she just shouldn’t apply that mindset to romance?
“Fine. I’ll do it your way. Don’t blame me if the young miss gets hurt.”
“I won’t get hurt.”
Mirabel decided to let go of her own worries.
Right—she was herself, and the young miss was the young miss. If she stayed anxious and tense, it would only make her young miss feel constrained. She needed to stand firm.
“Wow… now that I look closely, your scar has faded so much, young miss.”
Mirabel tried her best to believe her own words.

Gosh, I hate this mother of female lead. What the heck she think she is. How artificial. I wish to see her fall badly.
