“Me, Mel. The tea is overflowing.”
Adeline barely managed to squeeze out her voice. Only then did the duke’s hand, pouring the tea, come to a halt.
“That’s not what I was asking about.”
He set the teapot down on the table with a sharp clatter.
The duke leaned half his arm over the sofa and stared at her. His crimson eyes, slanted in her direction, gleamed as vividly as if soaked in blood.
Under his scrutinizing gaze, Adeline’s shoulders tensed inward.
This was certainly not the kind of look the man who had spent the summer with her would ever give.
“I asked why you have my seal. Bring it here.”
At the duke’s gesture, one of the knights standing by the door approached and placed the seal on the table.
It was the same bag Adeline had packed before being dragged away in the carriage—the very bag that held the seal.
She’d feared as much. It seemed the knights who took her belongings had searched through her bag.
That seal was her lifeline—yet now it lay right before the duke’s eyes.
“T-That’s—!”
At the duke’s glance signaling him to leave, the knight quickly exited the bedroom.
Now alone together, Adeline pleaded with teary, aggrieved eyes.

After emerging from the water, his ear tips turned red. He lightly brushed his cheek, tucking his sideburns behind his ear, revealing delicate, pink-tinged ear tips. He lowered his gaze, too embarrassed to look at her.

Seriously. If I were palace staff, I would have quit a LONG time ago. Why do these people stay only to get beaten up and killed?
Poor Adeline…. I know she lied and such, but she doesn’t really deserve the things that are coming her way… I hope the ML improves his attitude towards her soon!Ok. This Duke is pissing me off. Not sure how much longer I can put up with his cruelty towards her…. I know this is only 120 chapters long, but my tolerance for ML tormenting the FL is LOW!
