To The Eternal Knight (2 Chapters Left to Complete) - Chapter 124
Nerea blinked her eyes. Only now did she truly sense the thick darkness fully pouring in through the carriage window—because the right side of the Grand Duke’s face, who was gazing directly at her, was shrouded in shadow.
Yet even through the heavy gloom, it was unmistakable that the Grand Duke’s eyes were fixed straight on Nerea. Nerea paused briefly as she gazed at his eyes, glinting and burning brightly.
The eyes that had appeared brown under daylight now shimmered with a mysterious deep green hue.
“It really is true,” Nerea murmured under her breath. When the Grand Duke had mentioned she resembled his mother’s eyes, or when Martha described their peculiar hazelnut shade, she’d never truly grasped it—until now, all at once.
The deep green and faint sky-blue hues hidden within his rich brown irises smiled softly at Nerea.
“It’s the first time I’ve seen a Count lingering among young ladies like this. I thought you were popular only among knights—never imagined you’d be drawing in noble ladies too.”
Did I really? Nerea pondered carefully. But no matter how much she thought about it, she simply couldn’t agree with the idea that she was popular.
If she were truly popular, wouldn’t knights have approached her even before any young ladies did?
Yet until Grace and Count Illautzer brought over the neutral nobles, not a single knight had come near her.
That thought was clearly reflected on Nerea’s face. Seeing her dewy eyes filled with subtle bewilderment, Edward chuckled softly and said,
“Ah. The Count truly doesn’t know, do you? Even today, for instance—when I returned after speaking privately with His Majesty, I saw knights longing for you from afar, clinging to walls like flowers.”
The red-haired Black Knight, who had just returned having utterly disproven rumors of his decline or ruin, was naturally the very embodiment of aspiration for every knight who held a knighthood.
“How else could legendary tales of the Black Knight, who vanished for ten years claiming to recuperate in some countryside village, still be passed down among knights even now?”
Worried his words might have revealed too clearly his genuine feelings for Nerea, Edward glanced sideways at her.
Yet even in the darkness, her pale, delicate face remained quietly attentive to his words alone.
