The butler of the Ludens estate was deeply disappointed to learn that Louisa and Edward were returning without having dinner.

Yet, as if he had prepared it in advance, he handed them a package of snacks to eat on the train just as they were about to leave.

Thanks to him, they received a large basket containing a huge apple pie, paninis, and a thermos filled with warm tea. Edward, entranced by the savory and sweet aroma, peered into the basket and genuinely cheered up, saying they could enjoy this instead of the usual station food this time.

By the time the two of them, having left Ludens behind, returned to their townhouse in the capital, it was long past dinner hour.

As soon as they had unloaded their luggage and belongings into the house, Louisa immediately picked up her coat again. Seeing her prepare to go out, Edward asked,

“Are you leaving right away?”

Edward wasn’t the only one who noticed her movements. Mrs. Johnson hurried out from inside and quickly pressed a fox-fur scarf into Louisa’s hands. Louisa wrapped it tightly around her neck and replied,

“I have to. I can’t let a party making headlines with the Allen name go to waste.”

“If it seems like too much trouble, you can just go through the motions.”

“You should think carefully about whether you’d really say that if you heard your own words.”

“What? Haven’t I been listening to you perfectly lately?”

Edward abruptly stood up from his seat and strode over to her. Blocking her path, he gave a mischievous smirk and whispered into her ear,

“Last night, too—you kept begging me to stop, so I―”

“Ed!”
