After moving to the sofa by the window, Lemon briefly explained to Rashid and Devian about the Letiana bonds and Emperor Hart’s actions.

“…He’s still buying them up?”

Rashid, who had been pouring liquor into a crystal glass filled with ice, spoke with evident surprise.

“How strange. Emperor Hart is usually quite sharp at reading the currents of the times. One would think he’d be trying to offload bonds from a crumbling kingdom, not buy even more.”

Devian, who had been resting both hands atop his cane, picked up his glass.

“Could there be some hidden treasure in Letiana? Something valuable enough that even the bonds he already holds wouldn’t be sufficient to claim it. If not that, then perhaps he truly intends to annex Letiana into the Empire—but all he’d gain is a patch of land warm year-round? Surely he wouldn’t pour such an enormous sum just to secure a winter resort. It simply makes no sense.”

Rashid took a sip of his drink, his gaze shifting toward Kaius.

Kaius sat leaning back against the sofa, his eyes fixed on the garden outside where a few scattered lights were on. Though silently drinking, his gaze seemed focused somewhere far beyond. Rashid knew this look of Kaius well—it usually meant he was deep in thought, or, in other words, on the verge of making an important decision.

Rashid then turned his eyes away from Kaius and asked Lemon for more details, exchanging opinions with Devian.

Kaius still hadn’t decided whether to get directly involved in the Letiana bond issue.

His principle was not to interfere—but the reason he hesitated was solely because of Ariel.
