Kaius quietly observed Ariel, who was firmly trapped beneath his shadow.

Her tense eyes, swollen wet lips, and silver hair darkened by his shadow resembled a sky laden with storm clouds. Her dazzlingly pale naked body was covered everywhere with marks he had left behind, like blooming fever-flowers. It wasn’t an altogether unpleasant feeling.

“…Kaius?”

In any case, her eyes—filled with both embarrassment and wariness—clearly said she would immediately dress and flee to Anna’s room if he dared lay another hand on her. She didn’t even realize she’d earn the resentment of both Anna and Lemon if she did.

“It seems Serena wants the greenhouse key.”

“That’s simple enough. We’ll just set a trap. Guests will be arriving in a few days—let’s watch and see.”

That day, Ariel learned a few more facts. The previous spy hunt had been conducted thoroughly; though only Matthew had been definitively exposed, there were several others under suspicion who had been watched ever since—including Victor, apparently over gambling debts.

Yet at that time, Ariel still hoped it wasn’t him. Maybe she’d grown a bit attached, given he was her close-protection knight.

Before leaving the greenhouse, Ariel had instructed Kai and El not to fall asleep and to wait by the door, stopping any intruder from entering—she’d even permitted them to unleash their breath if the intruder was a knight carrying a sword.
