This Beast Never Sleeps at Night (Completed Main Story) - Chapter 8
When Adele looked around, she found herself lying on a couch in what appeared to be a study.
“How on earth did this happen…?”
As Adele tried to get up from the sofa, Christine pressed his finger firmly against his temple.
“Stay lying down a bit longer.”
“Ugh!”
Adele, who had been wriggling to sit up, finally gave in and lay back down.
Amused by her behavior, the corners of his mouth lifted slightly.
“Do you enjoy tormenting me?”
“Of course not. Can’t you see how worried I look?”
When Christine leaned his face closer, Adele instinctively turned her head away.
“I can see it perfectly well—so could you please back off a little?”
It seemed Christine had developed a habit of suddenly thrusting his face close to hers whenever they met again.
And each time, Adele found herself developing the habit of turning her head away.
“Good thing your mind seems clear now.”
He stepped back and handed her a glass of water.
“Drink.”
Supported by Christine, Adele sat up and drained the glass in one gulp—she’d been parched with thirst.
“What happened earlier?”
At Christine’s question, Adele unconsciously furrowed her brow.
Her memories were fragmented, but she recalled being forcibly dragged into a room by Eaton in the hallway.
She thought she’d put up some resistance… but…
“I’m not really sure what happened. Maybe it was a mistake to drink that wine.”
She decided not to mention her suspicion that someone had drugged her drink—after all, she had no concrete proof yet.
“Anyway, thanks for helping me, Chris.”
“Sounds like the one who should be thanking you is that guy, not me.”
“Huh?”
“You were about to slit his throat.”
With that, Christine held out a dagger.
Adele stared in shock, glancing back and forth between him and the blade.
It was hers.
Had I really drawn my dagger?
“It’s for self-defense.”
Snatching the dagger from him, Adele lifted her skirt and slid it into the garter on her thigh.
Christine let out a low whistle as he watched.
“Fitting accessory for a villainess.”
“I’ll take that as a compliment.”
Adele put on a composed expression, though inside she felt like crying.
She kept showing him her worst side.
She’d wanted him to see her thriving, not like this.
“Give me your right hand.”
“Why my hand?”
Christine pulled Adele’s hesitant hand toward him.
There was blood smeared between her thumb and index finger—she’d cut herself while clumsily wielding the knife.
“Tsk, if you don’t even know how to hold it properly, it’s not for self-defense—it’s for self-harm.”
He took out a handkerchief and gently wrapped it around her wound.
“Still, carrying it gives me peace of mind.”
Christine’s hands paused mid-knot.
That meant she faced enough threats to warrant carrying a knife.
“Well, that guy earlier did seem frightened when he saw it.”
Once he finished tying the knot, Adele quickly pulled her hand away.
Trending
“Even so, I’d have been in real danger without your help.”
“I didn’t do much. You were swinging the knife around so wildly he was completely rattled. All I did was knock him out from behind.”
Christine shrugged, then added as if just remembering,
“Oh, though stripping his clothes off and tying him up was a bit of a hassle.”
“You stripped him and tied him up?”
“Was he too weak?”
Adele shook her head.
“No.”
“Maybe I should’ve left him with at least his undergarments on?”
“Undergarments? Pfft!”
Adele burst out laughing at the sudden image.
Christine’s eyes softened with playful mischief.
“To think you carry such a thing around so well…”
“There’s no limit to what you’ll say in front of a lady!”
“I’m just stating what I saw.”
As the conversation veered into awkward territory, Adele quickly cleared her throat to change the subject.
“By the way, were you also invited here by Lady Hans?”
“Hardly.”
“…Then?”
“As the imperial princess’s escort.”
At the mention of the princess, Adele’s heart clenched.
Now that she noticed, he was dressed not in his usual uniform but in elegant formal attire—naturally, he’d taken extra care with his appearance as the princess’s partner.
So it’s true—you really are becoming the emperor’s son-in-law.
“But how did you know I was here?”
“I caught your scent.”
“That’s ridiculous. I bathe properly, and I wash my hair thoroughly…”
Even as she said it, Adele sniffed her arms and armpits.
Christine couldn’t help but smile at the sight.
“My sense of smell is just a bit sharper than most.”
“That’s not sharp—that’s beastly.”
In an instant, he suddenly pulled Adele behind the curtain.
“Wha—what…?”
Her eyes widened in surprise,
“Shh!”
He placed a finger over her lips and gestured toward the next room with his eyes.
“He must be looking for the guy.”
The study they were in was right next to the room where Earl Eaton had been tied up.
Moments later, the murmur of approaching voices grew louder.
Just as Christine had said, people had come searching for him—but more people than expected seemed to be gathering. She faintly recognized Seira’s and Lady Hans’s voices among them.
Adele became certain this whole affair was Seira’s scheme.
“You’ll definitely end up marrying me to Viscount Weiss. I’ll make sure of it!”
Had Seira sent drugged wine through a servant?
And innocent Mia had unknowingly handed it to her.
Even if Adele had narrowly escaped Eaton’s vile intentions, Seira would have used it as leverage to blackmail her—
Demanding she marry Christine.
If Adele refused, Seira would surely spread rumors that Adele had seduced Eaton, just as she always had before.
Seira!
Adele’s hand trembled as she gripped the curtain.
But right now, she needed to stay hidden. Being discovered alone with Christine would only make things worse.
Moments later, screams erupted from beyond the door.

“Kyaaaah!”
“What on earth is going on!”
They must have found Eaton, naked and bound. Clearly, it wasn’t a joyful scream.
Meanwhile, Christine threw the window wide open.
“Shall we leave?”
The crisp winter wind rushed in, making the curtain flutter.
Countless stars shimmered in the dark night sky.
Perhaps only because of Christine could she find such beauty in the heavens at a moment like this.
“Yeah.”
He nimbly leaped onto the windowsill and held out his hand.
“Take it.”
Instead of taking his hand, Adele asked,
“This is the first floor, right?”
“So?”
“I can manage this much myself.”
Politely declining his help, Adele placed both hands on the windowsill and hoisted herself up. But the floor sloped downward, making the drop higher than she’d expected.
“Need help now?”
“Nope!”
“If you sprain your ankle, I won’t carry you.”
“You be careful yourself!”
Gripping her skirt, Adele lightly jumped down, then turned to Christine with a triumphant grin.
Her black hair fluttered softly in the winter breeze.
She looked just like that girl from ten years ago.
Come to think of it, Adele used to play quite well with the boys back then.
That beautiful girl with forest-green eyes sparkling as she fearlessly ran through mountains and rivers…
Outside, the two strolled by the garden fountain.
Though the water was frozen in winter, lanterns glowed warmly throughout, creating a charming atmosphere.
The only drawback was the cold—so Christine took off his jacket and draped it over Adele’s shoulders.
“Thanks.”
“My pleasure.”
His coat was larger and heavier than expected, but warmed by his body heat, it felt wonderfully cozy.
“By the way, I’ve agreed to supply desserts to the imperial palace.”
Adele spoke first.
“That’s great.”
“Could it be… you didn’t arrange that for me, did you?”
When Adele asked hesitantly, Christine was firm.
“The emperor and I aren’t idle enough to meddle in such matters.”
“Good.”
Adele smiled happily—it meant her skill alone had truly won over the emperor’s palate.
“Though my praise probably played a big part in swaying the emperor’s decision. He trusts me completely.”
“Oh, please. It was my dessert that moved His Majesty’s taste.”
“Then maybe next time I’ll say it’s utterly tasteless.”
“Christine!”
Adele gasped before she realized she’d shouted. She was startled—acting so casually around him again, just like in the old days.
Whenever she met him, it happened naturally.
It felt as if the past ten years had vanished, and she was once again that young girl.
“So you admit my help mattered?”
“Not much—just a little.”
“Just a little?”
“More like… a little more than just a little?”

“So you admit you needed my help?”
“Fine, I admit it.”
“Then what should you do when someone helps you?”
Adele eyed Christine warily.
“…Say thank you?”
“I hear nobles don’t give thanks with empty words.”
“Wow, you’ve really gone downhill since becoming a noble. They say the rich get greedier…”
Though Adele looked exasperated, Christine showed no sign of backing down.
“Don’t try to get by with words alone. Show some effort—real effort.”
“So what do you want?”
“Apple pie.”
Adele’s expression froze instantly.
Christine, too, looked wistful as he murmured,
“Your mother’s apple pie was so delicious. I still think about it sometimes.”
At the mention of her mother, Adele’s face darkened as if she might cry.
“Yeah… I wish I’d learned her recipe better.”
If only she’d known they’d part so suddenly.
“It doesn’t have to taste exactly like hers. I just want to eat a pie made by you.”
“Alright, I’ll make one and send it. Where should I deliver it?”
Christine shook his head.
“Invite me over.”
“That’s…”
As Adele trailed off, his eyes narrowed.
“Worried some strange rumor might spread in this small town?”
“No, it’s more that… what if the imperial princess misunderstands…”
“What does the princess have to do with it?”
“Huh?”
“Didn’t you go around telling everyone I’m practically your younger brother?”
So he’d heard those rumors too.
“Well… it’s not exactly wrong.”
Then why did her voice grow so quiet?
“So it’s perfectly natural for me to visit your home—you’re practically my older sister.”
“Christine.”
For a moment, Christine’s lips curled into a cold smile—enough to make his whole expression icy.
“Why not just be honest? You’re afraid your man might misunderstand.”
My man?
Now that he mentioned it, she’d forgotten.
Rumors of her remarriage had been spreading as well.
“But did you know this? The more you push me away, the more I want to misbehave.”
His deep steel-gray eyes gleamed threateningly in the moonlight.
The Christine who’d felt like that child from ten years ago just moments before now seemed utterly unfamiliar—and even frightening.
He still hasn’t forgiven me, has he?
“So don’t provoke me anymore, Adele.”
His voice sounded chillingly like a warning.
Then Christine turned and walked away.
Feeling the biting winter wind, Adele wrapped her arms around herself. She couldn’t understand why his once-warm jacket now felt so uncomfortable.

Male lead Asks for a Divorce Every Day
It’s not often you come across a plot like this in the female-dominant genre — make sure to check it out!

This is a novel I’m planning to reread as well.
The male lead is strong, skilled in martial arts, and not the usual fragile type you often see in matriarchal novels.
Meanwhile, the female lead is a scientist—rational and logical. Even when she falls for the male lead, she doesn’t let her emotions cloud her decisions.
If you push through the first few chapters, you’ll gradually find the story really intriguing.
It has a mix of mystery, detective elements, and romance.
The author’s writing style is like crafting a puzzle—except they deliberately leave out a few pieces, making it hard to predict what happens next, yet keeping you hooked.
In the end, everything will come together and be explained.
One-sentence summary: Wife, stop playing with beakers and look at me!
In a laboratory accident, research scientist Zhu Wansheng accidentally travels to a matriarchal world. The original owner of the body is an eighteen-year-old only daughter of a wealthy rouge merchant, already married with a handsome young man.
Zhu Wansheng grins: Nice! She always said she was heaven’s favorite granddaughter. After a life of toil in her previous life, she can enjoy blessings in this one.
However, her joy lasts no more than three seconds as bad news arrives: the original owner’s family is about to go bankrupt, and her husband wants a divorce.
Even worse, she’s stuck with a research system full of restrictions.
Zhu Wansheng: ? Is this the destiny of a research dog?
——
Faced with this mess, Zhu Wansheng pours herself a bowl of wine to drown her sorrows. In her drunken haze, her husband arrives.
His figure is imposing, holding a long sword, with a dignified air that captivates Zhu Wansheng.
Gu Yingqing, however, looks at the alcohol-reeking Zhu Wansheng with undisguised disgust and coldly asks, “Divorce or not?” The intoxicated Zhu Wansheng mumbles vaguely, “I think… it’s not… it’s not… impossible!”
——
The next day, after sobering up, Zhu Wansheng is full of energy, rolling up her sleeves ready to make a big move. As for yesterday? She has no memory of it.
Zhu Wansheng is ambitious; a research dog fears nothing!
Upgrading rouge, extracting fragrances, producing perfumes, researching lipsticks… all shall bow to the power of modern technology!
The original owner’s dying rouge shop is revitalized. Her mother is pleased and with a wave of her hand, passes on the family business to her. As she takes control and her experimental results gain popularity, it’s the pinnacle of her life…
——
But there are always those who can’t stand to see her doing well. Jealousy, scheming, assassination attempts – they want nothing less than her life.
The person who has always kept his distance from her suddenly holds her tightly in his arms, eyes full of concern.
She is unharmed, but he falls into a pool of blood…
Zhu Wansheng feels guilty, “I can grant you one wish.”
Gu Yingqing tentatively circles his arms around her, carefully resting his head in the crook of her neck, pleading softly, “I regret it. Can we not divorce?”
Zhu Wansheng: ? When did I agree to a divorce?
[Small Theater]
The newly developed rouge is beautifully packaged, and Zhu Wansheng is eager to try it.
Gu Yingqing suddenly appears: “My lady, may I apply it for you?”
Cool fingertips lightly brush her lips. His Adam’s apple bobs as he leans in for a light bite.
Zhu Wansheng: ?
Gu Yingqing: It smells so good, I wanted to taste it…
On a warm spring day, Zhu Wansheng tries a new perfume: “Spring Night.” Gu Yingqing corners her against a wall.
Warm breath lingers on her neck.
“My lady, from now on, may I test the fragrances for you?”
