The women who had been whispering loudly behind their fans flinched when their eyes met Adele’s.
“Gossiping behind someone’s back is only proper when they can’t hear it. Well then, excuse me.”
Adele bowed politely and walked past them.
“Count Weiss!”
Seira’s voice rang out suddenly.
She approached the hesitating Adele and asked,
“Is it really true he’s your younger brother?”
She had suspected as much—the rumor must have already spread like wildfire throughout Greenhill.
And of course, it would have reached Christine’s ears as well.
Hiding her bitterness, Adele nodded firmly.
“Yes, he’s practically my own brother.”
Hearing it straight from Adele’s lips, everyone’s eyes lit up as they began whispering excitedly—after all, it meant Count Weiss’s arm was still unclaimed.
Seira promptly dismissed all her hangers-on nearby.
“We have something to discuss privately, so you may go ahead inside.”
Once they were alone, she got straight to the point.
“Then, would it be possible for you to arrange a match between us?”
“What?”
Of all the things Adele had heard recently, this was the most absurd.
But Seira was shameless beyond imagination.
“If you help me marry Count Weiss, I’ll help you in return. You want to clear your name of that murder accusation, don’t you?”
“What difference would clearing my name make now?”
“Think carefully. You’d be exonerated, and the Count would become part of the prestigious Oswald family. Wouldn’t that grant him entry into the Council of Nobles?”
At the mention of the Council of Nobles, Adele clicked her tongue.
“You think carefully too, Seira. Don’t you wonder why His Majesty trusts him so deeply?”
“Why he trusts him…?”
Seira pondered for a moment before her expression suddenly changed as if she’d just realized something.
“Don’t tell me… His Majesty is considering him as a potential imperial consort?”
Adele feigned ignorance with an innocent shrug.
“Well, how would I know the intentions of such an exalted person? But if it were you, whose hand would you choose—the Imperial Princess’s or the Duke’s daughter’s?”
Seeing Seira’s lips tremble, Adele felt a deep sense of satisfaction.
But Seira refused to give up so easily.
“Are you sure? You must have feelings for him too, don’t you?”
It struck a nerve more accurately than Adele had expected.
Though startled, Adele was skilled at masking her expression.
“You’re mistaken. I’m already seeing someone.”
Seira’s crimson lips curled into a sly smile.
“I saw you dancing with the Count that day. I know your true face hidden beneath that mask. Was that really how you’d look at your own brother?”
After a brief silence, Adele quietly laughed.
“Seira, you really do adore me, don’t you?”
“What nonsense are you spouting?”
“Don’t you think your interest in me is excessive? You’re always circling around me like a pitiful child desperate for her mother’s love.”
“Why you—!”
Seira finally raised her hand to slap Adele’s cheek.
But Adele, having anticipated it, caught her wrist mid-air.
“Act your age for once, Seira!”
Seira yanked her hand back with a flinch, yet shouted fiercely,
“Don’t act so high and mighty! You will connect me with Count Weiss—I’ll make sure of it!”
Seira Oswald.
In truth, it wasn’t an exaggeration to say that Kalime’s high society was firmly in her grasp.
A woman skilled at winning people to her side with her beauty and exceptional social grace.
If someone fell out of Seira’s favor, her followers would swiftly spread malicious rumors. No matter how innocent the person, social ruin was only a matter of time.
Adele was the prime example.
Seira had played the biggest role in turning Adele into the “Villainess” who poisoned her husband.

True to her cheerful nature, Mia grabbed Adele’s hand and pulled her straight into the heart of the banquet hall.
Just then, a servant arrived carrying a tray of wine glasses and offered them.
Mia picked up one for herself and one for Adele.
“Let’s drink—cheers!”
She clinked her glass merrily and began dancing amidst the crowd. People quickly gathered around the lively Mia.
‘Good. She’s enjoying herself as much as she’d hoped.’
Watching Mia fondly, Adele slipped out of the banquet hall.
Her head felt slightly dizzy.
‘Could it be because I haven’t been in such a crowded place in a long time?’
But her condition was growing steadily worse.
Soon, her vision blurred, and the voices around her faded into the distance.
She struggled to steady herself, feeling as if she’d had far too much to drink.
‘Could it be the wine I just drank?’
Impossible. She’d only had a single glass.
No matter how she thought about it, something about that wine seemed off.
Looking back, the servant who’d handed them the glasses left immediately afterward—as if they’d been his sole target.
‘Could someone have slipped something into the wine?’
But who?
‘I need to get out.’
Adele decided to step outside for some fresh, cool air. As she walked down the corridor, her limbs grew weak, forcing her to lean against the wall for support.
“May I assist you, Madam?”
A man approaching from the opposite end of the corridor spoke up.
“Ah, I’m fine.”
She barely managed to reply, her face damp with cold sweat.
“No, I believe you do need my help.”
“…!”
A sudden chill ran down Adele’s spine, and she lifted her head.
Her vision was too blurry, and everything spun dizzily, making it impossible to see clearly. Yet, she barely recognized who the man was.
“You’re…?”
He was Viscount Eton.
The man who had proposed to her before Duke Oswald’s funeral had even concluded.
After she rejected him, he’d occasionally fled after scrawling horrifying graffiti on her garden walls.
“Get out of my way!”
Adele cried out, but it was useless.
The man clamped his large hand over her mouth and dragged her into the darkness.
Everyone in the banquet hall bowed their heads simultaneously.
In the center stood a youthful blonde girl, barely twenty years old.
With rosy cheeks and an endearing charm, she was none other than April, the Emperor’s eldest daughter.
“It’s an honor to meet you, Your Highness.”
Seira stepped forward and curtsied. April smiled sweetly in return.
“Nice to see you, Lady Seira.”
“My mother, Lady Oswald, also wished to meet you… but I can’t seem to find her anywhere.”
Seira glanced around as if searching for Adele, wearing a troubled expression.
“She’s probably resting from fatigue. We can greet her later.”
April replied kindly.
Then, exchanging a glance with Seira, Mrs. Hans stepped forward.
“I saw Lady Oswald enter a room down that corridor just a moment ago.”
“I’ll go fetch Mother.”
April smiled gently.
“Then I’ll come along too.”
Like other noblewomen in the Empire, April had taken a liking to Christine. Naturally, she was curious about Adele, who was entangled in all sorts of rumors with him.
If they truly were siblings, April also hoped to win their favor.
“This way, then.”
Mrs. Hans led the group forward.
Behind her followed Seira, April, and several others, their faces filled with curiosity.

April, who hadn’t grasped the situation at first, now looked flustered and dabbed her forehead with a handkerchief.
“Perhaps it’s best to greet her another time.”
But Seira was resolute.
“No, this concerns the honor of House Oswald. We must clarify exactly what’s happening!”
With that, she threw the door open without hesitation.
Bang!
Everyone instantly screamed in shock.
“Kyaaah!”
“What on earth is going on!”
Inside the room, a naked man was tightly bound to a chair.

“Disappointed it’s not some other man?”
Adele gave a weak smile.
“You’re the only one who talks so rudely—must be you.”
