There Is No Paradise Where I Ran Away To (14 Chapters Left to Complete) - Chapter 141
Vivian stepped out of the room and walked toward the garden outside the mansion. She wandered aimlessly through the blooming flowers, determined to face the rain she had only watched through the window.
The dull sound of raindrops hitting her umbrella struck her heart.
Hurting and being hurt.
Trapped in an endless cycle, repeating pain over and over. It couldn’t be love. Just as that man had admitted, it was merely possessiveness born from stubborn obsession. Thus, their mutual wounds had become solidified, as if such pain were only natural in their relationship.
Vivian wiped away her tears. She almost wanted to toss the umbrella aside.
Then, at least, she could hide the tears shed for such a worthless man. The rain falling around her was more than enough to conceal even her own momentary lapse into vulnerability.
Sniffling, Vivian spotted a cluster of yellow daffodils and crouched down before them. Feeling sorry for the petals drenched by spring rain, she held her umbrella over them.
But she quickly pulled it away again, realizing the daffodils might actually be enjoying the spring shower.
It was kindness and concern offered one-sidedly. The thought made her uneasy—her current attitude wasn’t all that different from Edwin’s.
Just as she couldn’t bear her own shame and was about to leave the garden,
Monica, worried about her daughter walking alone in the garden, approached gently under an umbrella, smiling warmly. Vivian hastily turned away and rubbed her eyes vigorously, not wanting her mother to see she’d been crying.
“Vivian?”
Monica had already drawn near. Vivian forced a smile and straightened her posture.
“Mother, why did you come out? It’s chilly.”
“I thought I’d take a night stroll with my grown-up daughter.”
