The Wife Who Ran Away (Completed Main Story) - Chapter 4
“Open your mouth.”
His rough voice landed by her ear, making her heart race.
She felt heat radiating from the fingertips gripping her chin.
Yeon Joo’s trembling lips slowly parted. Jin Wook’s gaze deepened as he watched her plump lips open wider. Lowering his head, he swallowed her lips into his.
It began gently. He took her upper and lower lips alternately into his mouth, sucking softly at first. Gradually, the suction intensified, and a supple sensation slid smoothly between her parted lips.
The scent of wine they’d just drunk spread inside her mouth. Their breaths tangled together, and the kiss grew fiercer.
“Hah…”
Even the breaths she exhaled in between were swallowed by his lips. While lost in the sweet yet unrestrained kiss, his hand wrapped around her waist. His other hand slowly pulled at the hem of her robe.
The robe dropped to the floor, and his heated gaze swept over her. Everywhere his eyes touched, she felt as if she were burning away.
Jin Wook began undressing himself. Tossing aside his bathrobe, his firm, bare body was fully revealed.
Yeon Joo’s eyes trembled at the sight. It was the first time she’d seen a man’s naked body since becoming an adult.
Jin Wook picked up Yeon Joo, her face flushed red, and carried her as he walked toward the bedroom.
She couldn’t even tell how furiously her heart pounded during that brief walk to the bedroom. Jin Wook placed Yeon Joo gently onto the bed.
He leaned closer, lowering his head again. The sensation tracing along her curves sent electric shivers through her, making her dizzy.
Like pure white paper stained with rose, a flustered breath escaped from between Yeon Joo’s lips.
Just as her mind began to blur, his scent drew even closer.
An overwhelming sensation crashed over her like waves. Her breath kept faltering under the fierce rush of heat.
After a long while, Jin Wook’s body was drenched in sweat. The sweat on his face, the slight furrow in his brow, and his roughened breathing—all of it happening because of her—filled Yeon Joo with a strange, indescribable feeling.
‘Is this how love between a man and a woman feels?’
Though unfamiliar, the sensation wasn’t unpleasant. On the contrary, an emotion too profound for words swelled inside her.
She believed Jin Wook must be feeling the same emotions she was. She trusted this wasn’t merely an act solely meant for conceiving a child.
Closing her eyes, Yeon Joo pulled him tighter against her back.
Their bedroom remained filled with heated air for a long time afterward.

Their newlywed life continued in a steady, predictable rhythm.
In some ways, it was smooth; in others, it was monotonous days strung together.
Jin Wook was extremely busy with work, leaving home early in the morning and returning late at night. On top of that, he went on countless business trips each month, making face-to-face time at home a rare occurrence.
Despite his hectic schedule, Jin Wook hardly missed a single day embracing Yeon Joo.
Except during trips or her menstrual period, the moment he entered the house, he would take Yeon Joo straight to the bedroom. Sometimes, they didn’t even reach the bedroom—he’d make love to her right at the entrance or in the living room.
Yeon Joo found herself both amazed and impressed by Jin Wook. If she were him, after enduring a long, exhausting day at the office, she’d collapse into bed immediately. Yet he showed no signs of fatigue and always held her without fail.
Even more astonishing was that it rarely ended after just once.
One day, worn out from their repeated intimacy, she asked him with a tired expression,
“Don’t you ever get tired, Jin Wook?”
To that, he replied confidently,
“I think I made myself perfectly clear. I intend to do my absolute best on every possible day.”
That was what he had told her on the day they first met for their arranged meeting.
And he truly lived up to his word.
He held Yeon Joo again and again, increasing the frequency especially during her ovulation period.
Even during his busiest times, he often came home just to hold Yeon Joo before heading back out to the office.
He also quit smoking and drinking, insisting they could negatively affect a potential fetus.
Yeon Joo understood exactly why he was trying so desperately hard.
She’d heard that from the moment he received approval for their marriage, he’d promised his grandfather he’d have a child as soon as possible. Ever since their wedding, both his mother and grandfather had continuously pressured them to conceive.
In this situation, no one longed for pregnancy more than Yeon Joo herself. Not wanting to disappoint Jin Wook or his family, she gave it her all as well.
She tried every food and supplement rumored to aid conception and strictly avoided anything said to hinder it.
She even gave up her dream of entering graduate school to continue studying—immediately after marriage. Yeon Joo was always ready to welcome and raise a child at any moment.
Being so young, she had assumed pregnancy would happen quickly. Yet even after one year passed, and then another, there was still no sign of a child.
Her in-laws’ expressions toward Yeon Joo grew colder by the day, and they began to look down on her.
Whenever they saw her, they’d whisper among themselves.
“Isn’t it almost been two years since Yeon Joo got married, yet she’s still not pregnant?”
“What’s the use of marrying into our family so young if she can’t even bear a child?”
Trending
“Didn’t I hear her father’s business failed again? She brings absolutely nothing beneficial to our household.”
“Word is, Jin Wook’s even paying for her mother’s hospital bills. How shameless… honestly.”
Her youth, her inability to conceive quickly, her ailing mother, her humble family background—none of it pleased them. Everything about Yeon Joo seemed wrong in their eyes.
It wasn’t just them whose attitude changed.
Jin Wook himself gradually showed signs of exhaustion over time, speaking less and less. This became especially noticeable after his promotion in the first year of marriage.
When he came home, he’d go straight to bed without a word, as if fulfilling a duty.
During their intimacy, only rough breathing passed between them—no conversation. Once it was over, he’d head straight to the bathroom as if he’d completed his obligation, and often left again for work soon after.
Yeon Joo had to grow accustomed to sleeping alone in their spacious bed.
She also had to get used to the pressure and coldness from both her in-laws and her own family.
She could feel everyone around her changing.
Yet no one noticed as her smile slowly faded away.

Having finished her recollection, Yeon Joo pulled back her bitter gaze from the air and looked again at Mi Hyun lying beside her.
She placed her hand gently over Mi Hyun’s slender one and stroked it softly.
“Mom.”
Still, there was no response.
But that was alright. Just knowing Mi Hyun existed in this world was enough to give Yeon Joo hope and strength—the sole reason she could endure this unbearable life.
Even if everyone said she was wrong, Yeon Joo would never let go of this hand.
She’d heard stories of people abroad waking up after remaining in comas for several years.
Mi Hyun, too, would surely wake up someday.
Then, she’d look at Yeon Joo again with those gentle eyes and smile.
She’d embrace her warmly and say,
“You’ve held on so well all this time.”
“You’ve really worked so hard.”
“From now on, you’ll be happy.”
It was for that day alone that Yeon Joo kept holding onto life.
She could endure any contempt and overcome any trial.
Everything would be alright.
As long as her mom would just wake up again…
Yeon Joo stroked Mi Hyun’s hand and pressed her face against its back.
When she was little, her mother would often press her face like this against Yeon Joo’s hand, gazing at her with loving eyes.
‘My beautiful daughter.’
‘Of everyone in the world, you, Yeon Joo, are the most precious to me, and I love you so much.’
That voice, that warmth, that gaze… she missed them so terribly it hurt.
“Mom.”
Yeon Joo whispered softly, her cheek resting against Mi Hyun’s hand.
“Please wake up now.”
Her pitiful eyes filled with tears, which soon dripped, one by one, onto Mi Hyun’s hand.
“Please wake up soon… and hold me tight.”
