The Wife Who Ran Away (Completed Main Story) - Chapter 3
Yeon Joo’s eyes widened in surprise.
He wanted her to have a child?
The one and only condition he wanted was a ‘child’?
This was another completely unexpected revelation.
Jin Wook calmly watched Yeon Joo’s flustered expression before speaking.
“You’ve probably already heard rumors, but Grandfather is currently in very poor health. As his strength has declined, he’s also become mentally fragile—and since a few months ago, he’s repeatedly said that if I want control over the company, I must bring him a great-grandchild.”
Jin Wook’s grandfather was the chairman and the de facto power behind LM Group. Ever since Jin Wook’s father—the once-favored heir—died in an accident two years ago, everyone had been watching closely to see who would become the next head of LM Group.
“‘Within four years, our Cha family is destined to welcome a precious child. That child will dispel all misfortune from our family and bring great prosperity to the company.'”
“‘You must bring me a child within four years—no exceptions. Only after I see that child’s face can I leave this world in peace. Otherwise, I simply won’t go.'”
Recalling his grandfather’s words, Jin Wook opened his mouth again.
“At first, I thought it was just a joke, but later I realized how serious he was—even including it in his will.”
“……”
“So right now, I need a marriage that can fulfill what my grandfather desires.”
Jin Wook asked her firmly.
“In other words, I’m asking if you’re willing to start trying for a baby immediately after we marry.”
Trying for a baby…?
Yeon Joo’s cheeks flushed slightly.
Even though she’d never been with a man before, she wasn’t so naive as to not understand how pregnancy worked.
The thought of not only marrying a man she’d just met but also already planning to conceive with him made her face burn with embarrassment. Seeing her unable to speak, Jin Wook added,
“If the condition doesn’t sit well with you, you don’t have to answer. I know it’s not easy to plan a pregnancy at your age.”
His expression was serious—clearly indicating how critical this matter was.
His words made Yeon Joo’s face turn equally grave. She needed to consider his proposal seriously and carefully.
She was inwardly curious why he’d chosen her of all people, but upon reflection, it didn’t really matter. All Yeon Joo could think about was her mother lying in a hospital bed.
Marrying him would surely please Kyeong Ok, and she’d no longer have to worry about her mother’s medical bills. Even if her mother woke up someday, telling her that Jin Wook was her husband would surely make her happy too.
Yeon Joo had no reason to refuse him. In fact, he was exactly the kind of man she needed to hold onto. Even if she went on countless other matchmaking dates in the future, she doubted she’d ever meet another man as suitable as Jin Wook.
Having reached her decision internally, Yeon Joo looked at him with clear, determined eyes.
“I’m fine with it.”
“……”
“I don’t mind having a child right after we get married.”
The serious-faced Yeon Joo spoke again.
“Besides, I’ve always loved children…”
“……”
“If I get married, I’d actually like to have as many kids as possible.”
Jin Wook studied her face intently.
“Are you really sure you can handle it?”
His deep voice followed quietly.
“Because I plan to give my absolute best every single day.”
Meeting his intense gaze, Yeon Joo’s face turned crimson.
Did he still see her as too young and unreliable?
Yeon Joo tightly clenched her hands, folded on her lap, and spoke firmly to reassure him.
“Yes. I’m confident I can handle it.”
She continued with a voice full of resolve.
“I’ll do my very best too.”
“……”
“And don’t worry—I’m healthier and stronger than I look.”
As soon as she finished speaking, she noticed Jin Wook staring intently at her.
Maybe she shouldn’t have mentioned being strong… A small wave of regret washed over her.
The tips of Yeon Joo’s ears burned, and seeing her expression, Jin Wook’s lips curved into a soft smile.
“That’s the most welcome thing I’ve heard all day.”
Yeon Joo’s blush deepened. Even just sitting still, he was already strikingly handsome—but when he smiled, it seemed as if light filled the entire room.

Could she really marry a man like him?
The more she thought about it, the more unbelievable it felt—so much so that she even wondered if this whole thing might be some kind of scam.
Yet contrary to her doubts, wedding preparations moved forward swiftly and decisively.
The very next day after their meeting, she received a call from Jin Wook’s grandfather, followed quickly by a meeting between their families.
Once the wedding date was set, everything progressed even more rapidly. Jin Wook’s side took full charge of all necessary arrangements—dress, invitations, venue, everything.
“Mr. Lee instructed us to proceed exactly as Madam desires.”
Myeong Hwan, Jin Wook’s secretary, handled all the wedding preparations on his behalf since Jin Wook himself was always busy.
She only saw his face three times before their wedding day: first during the matchmaking meeting, second at the formal family introduction, and third during their wedding photo shoot.
Thus, Yeon Joo married a man she’d seen only three times—and now, trembling with nervousness, faced their wedding night.
Yeon Joo gazed out at the cityscape through the window.
The vibrant city lights shimmered in her deep brown eyes—a splendid view worthy of a five-star hotel.
As she admired the dazzling night view, she heard the soft click of a door opening behind her.
Her shoulders twitched slightly. It must be Jin Wook, finished with his shower. The subtle scent of body wash gently filled the room.
Knowing he’d come out, her tension spiked instantly. Though her eyes remained fixed on the city lights, all her senses were now focused behind her.
She heard his footsteps heading toward the dining area, followed by the faint clink of him picking something up—and then the sound of him walking toward her.
Yeon Joo tightly gripped the sleeve of her white robe. Tonight was the first night she’d spend with him.
Due to his packed work schedule—even on weekends—they hadn’t planned a separate honeymoon. Instead, they’d decided to spend their wedding night in a luxury hotel suite.
Just thinking about what would soon happen here made her lips go dry. She wanted everything to feel natural, but her body refused to cooperate.
Her limbs were stiff, refusing to move, and she remained frozen, still facing the window.
“I’m curious—when do you plan to finish admiring the night view?”
His voice from behind startled her. Only then did Yeon Joo finally turn to look at Jin Wook.
Jin Wook was sitting on the living room sofa, a bottle of wine and two glasses on the table before him.
He wore only a navy blue bathrobe. His slightly damp hair fell over his forehead, and through the parted robe, his well-defined chest was subtly visible.
Seeing him like this, Yeon Joo found it difficult to meet his eyes directly.
Pouring wine into a glass, Jin Wook asked,
“Do you know how to drink alcohol?”
“……Yes. A little.”
Jin Wook handed her the deep purple-filled glass. Yeon Joo slowly approached the table and sat directly across from him.
Seeing her seated so far away, Jin Wook gave a small, quiet chuckle.
“For a married couple, aren’t we sitting a bit too far apart?”
He gestured with his eyes toward the spot beside him.
“Come sit over here.”
When Yeon Joo hesitated instead of immediately moving, Jin Wook stood up. Still holding his wine glass, he walked over and sat down right next to her.
As he settled beside her, a rich, sensual scent seeped into her lungs. Unable to look at him directly, her gaze wandered nervously around the table’s edge.
Jin Wook raised his glass toward her.
“Drink. Nothing loosens tension like alcohol.”
Apparently, he could see the tension in her eyes too.
Yeon Joo lifted her glass and gently clinked it against his before slowly bringing it to her lips.
The red wine moistened her lips. Jin Wook watched as her mouth glistened with deep crimson.
As she drank, her head bowed low, strands of hair fell softly around her face. Noticing a strand clinging to her lips, Jin Wook reached out.
When his fingers lightly brushed her lips, Yeon Joo flinched, her eyes widening in surprise.
Looking at her—frozen in place with wide, round eyes—Jin Wook gave a wry smile.
“Anyone watching might think I kidnapped you against your will.”
He met her gaze with earnest eyes.
“If you’ve changed your mind, tell me now.”
His firm voice followed.
“You can’t possibly sleep with a man you dislike every night.”
His words made Yeon Joo’s eyes tremble slightly.
She bit gently on her wine-stained lips before speaking.
“No… I don’t dislike it.”

His eyes questioned why she was so tense, then.
Yeon Joo spoke again.
“It’s not that I dislike it… I’m just a little nervous.”
“……”
“This situation… it’s my first time experiencing something like this.”
Having never had a proper relationship before, Yeon Joo had never been intimate with a man. How could she not be trembling on the night she’d share a bed with one for the first time?
Moreover, her partner—though now her husband—was someone she’d only met three times.
Even if they’d been affectionate lovers, this would still be nerve-wracking. With someone she’d barely spoken to, sharing their wedding night naturally felt awkward and frightening.
Watching her tense form, Jin Wook spoke softly.
“Then I’ll wait.”
“……”
“Just let me know when you’re ready.”
As he started to rise from the sofa, Yeon Joo’s eyes wavered.
She suddenly remembered what he’d told her the day they first met.
“My one and only condition for marrying you, Ms. Kang Yeon Joo, is this.”
“We must plan for pregnancy and have a child immediately after marriage.”
In her nervousness, she’d nearly forgotten the most crucial fact—the very terms on which they’d agreed to marry.
They weren’t an ordinary married couple. Their relationship had a clear, mutual purpose. She couldn’t pretend otherwise or act like a child shirking responsibility.
Snapping back to reality, Yeon Joo reached out and grabbed his arm.
“No, it’s fine.”
She spoke firmly, eyes filled with resolve.
“I already told you—it’s just nerves because it’s my first time.”
“……”
“I’ll get used to it soon.”
Though her heart still pounded deeply within her chest, she suppressed it and spoke again.
“So… we can go ahead now… It’s okay.”
Her grip on his arm tightened. Jin Wook looked down at her clenched hand, then lifted his gaze to her face.
Freshly showered, Yeon Joo’s face was completely bare—clear and translucent. Her deep brown eyes and plump lips sat perfectly against her pale skin. Below them, her slender neck and pronounced collarbones drew his attention.
Her flushed cheeks, the skin peeking through her white robe, and the fragrance that had filled the room since earlier—all of it was temptation enough.
No—actually, his desire had already burned fiercely within him since the moment he’d seen her in that pure white wedding dress at the ceremony.
“Then I’m glad to hear it.”
Jin Wook brought his hand to her cheek.
“To be honest, waiting was getting really difficult.”
His deep eyes now fully revealed the longing he’d been holding back—a scorching gaze hot enough to make his lower abdomen throb.
He tilted his head toward her. His low, husky voice dropped from his approaching lips.
“I clearly gave you a chance.”
“……”
“But from now on, even if you cry or beg, I won’t stop.”
His fingers, which had been gently stroking her cheek, slid downward to grasp her chin.
“Open your mouth.”
