She's a Villainess but her Husband is Handsome (Completed Main Story) - Chapter 6
“My lady. I’ve been waiting for you.”
She halted her steps before Cedric’s room as she received Roberto’s greeting.
It was indeed unpleasant to meet a man alone after having proposed divorce.
Lorraine took a long, slow breath and gave Roberto a nod with her eyes.
Knock knock.
The door opened at the knock, revealing Cedric seated slantwise at the table by the window.
The man seated before the sun-drenched window—
it gave the illusion of watching a scene straight out of a film.
She passed by Roberto, who had stepped back after swinging the door wide open, and entered Cedric’s room.
Cedric set the book he’d been holding onto the table and rose from his seat.
“My lady, please come and sit over here.”
At his courteous gesture, she moved to the seat opposite Cedric.
“Robe—”
“I’m fine without tea.”
Wishing to speak quickly and leave, Lorraine cut off Cedric’s words and gave Roberto a slight nod.
Thud.
The fully opened door closed perfectly shut.
“I wonder why my lady has come to see me again—what more does she wish to say?”
His tone carried a hint of sarcasm,
as if asking, “Do you really have anything else to say besides divorce?”
Maintaining her composure, Lorraine faced her husband squarely and slowly parted her lips.
“I didn’t come here to talk about us.”
“Oh? Really?” Cedric lifted an eyebrow slightly, as if questioning her.
“Then what did you come to discuss?”
“I came because of what happened this morning.”
“This morning? Ah—you mean what occurred in the dining room?”
“Yes. I have a request.”
“A request?”
When Lorraine nodded, he gave a nod in return, signaling her to go on.
“Please transfer Rodell to a different workplace.”
Cedric’s eyelids, fringed with dense lashes, slowly lowered and then lifted back to their place.
He leaned his previously upright torso comfortably against the chair.
“To where exactly? Are you asking me to send him away from this estate?”
His gaze seemed to ask, “Do you want him banished?”
Clearly, he assumed she’d come to punish the servant who’d soiled her dress.
“No. There’s no reason to drive him out.”
Lorraine replied firmly.
“Then where would you have me send him?”
Tap tap tap.
Cedric’s long fingers rhythmically tapped the tabletop.
She watched his impatient, clock-ticking gesture in silence for a moment before opening her mouth.
“I heard today’s incident wasn’t the first. Apparently, he collapsed once before.”
“Yes. That’s true.”
He answered very lightly.
“If something like that happens again, his current workplace will be dangerous for Rodell.”
“Dangerous?”
“We don’t know when or where he might collapse again. Places filled with sharp and hot objects are hazardous.”
His blue eyes, set within narrow lids, widened slightly.
“Perhaps the laundry room, or the garden—but no, the garden has too many dangerous tools. The library would be fine. I believe it’s best to move him somewhere with as little foot traffic as possible.”
She spoke swiftly yet calmly.

Cedric, who had been staring at her straight-on without blinking, straightened his relaxed posture.
“Hmm.” He emitted a small sound and scrutinized Lorraine’s face with sharp eyes.
Lorraine met his gaze with resolute determination, as if insisting it simply had to be done.
“Lorraine, since when have you become so concerned about the servants’ affairs?”
His words somehow drained all strength from her.
She understood his suspicion was only natural.
After all, he must think of her as a woman who only ever caused trouble.
“It doesn’t matter whether I care or not. Even just today’s incident alone makes this situation worth considering.”
But she resolved not to back down.
And she hoped he’d see this matter clearly, without linking it back to her.
“I understand your point perfectly well—but what if I refuse to do as you ask?”
“…Cedric?”
Lorraine involuntarily raised the pitch of her voice.
“You, of all people, would refuse?”
“Don’t get excited.”
“Rodell’s illness isn’t something that can be cured so easily.”
“How would you know that?”
She momentarily lost her words but quickly resumed.
“There was once a servant with the exact same symptoms.”
“I see.”
The man nodded with an indifferent expression.
“Therefore, Cedric, please do as I ask.”
“Lorraine, I’m not saying I won’t follow your wishes. I’m simply asking because I need a more compelling reason.”
Where else could there possibly be a more sufficient reason?
Lorraine’s eyes slowly narrowed.
“Today is the first time I’ve realized you could care so much about others.”
So it always comes back to this.
Again, it was because of Lorraine’s past behavior.
She had nothing to say even if he suspected her of having ulterior motives.
But she was angry.
Slowly swallowing the breath she’d held tightly within her clenched mouth, she opened her lips gently.
“Cedric, someone like you wouldn’t understand.”
Her voice, slipping through her small lips, carried bitterness and reproach.
“What don’t I understand?”
“Someone like you, who grew up sleeping in warm beds and eating warm meals without a care in the world, could never understand—not even if you came back from the dead.”
“…”
“You have no idea how hard it is for those who suffer in pain with nothing to their name—how desperately they sometimes wish to die!”
She’d told herself not to lose control, yet her agitation wouldn’t subside.
“Of course, saving someone won’t change my life at all.”
The poor, the destitute—those who desperately needed someone’s help.
She recalled their eyes, which had looked at her as if she were their last ray of hope in the world.
“But do you understand how it feels to watch such people suffer?”
“…Lorraine, what on earth are you talking about?”
“You’ll never know how agonizing it is for someone like me—who can only live by saving others—to merely stand by and watch them!”
She’d turned her back on them, abandoning them for the sake of survival.
Remembering how her sense of duty as a physician had been ruthlessly trampled by cruel reality, her chest stung.
She couldn’t bear the thought of history repeating itself—it made her want to die.
Her rough breath escaped through her clenched teeth.
For a moment, the faces of those who’d treated human lives like scraps of paper in front of money flashed before her eyes.
Within Cedric’s furrowed eyes, his blue irises darkened like the deep night sea.

‘Ah. I got far too worked up.’
He probably understood nothing of what she’d said.
Only now did she realize how baffling her excessive emotional investment must have seemed to him.
Lorraine slowly relaxed the tension in her wide-open eyelids and steadied her breathing.
‘Right. I’ve already asked for a divorce—what’s left that I can’t say?’
She locked eyes directly with the man whose thoughts she couldn’t fathom.
Silence wrapped tightly around the two facing each other.
Tap tap tap.
His long fingers once again began tapping the tabletop in a steady rhythm.
Just as the sound began to grate on her nerves and she glanced briefly at his fingertips—
“Very well.”
At his crisp voice, she lifted her eyes.
“I’ll assign Rodell new duties as you wish.”
The corners of his lips lifted faintly as he spoke in a low tone.
“Thank you.”
As Lorraine uttered her composed words, Cedric leaned comfortably back into his chair.
“Then I’ll take my leave now.”
Having accomplished the purpose of her visit, she had no reason to remain facing this man any longer.
In truth, she didn’t even wish to sit with him a moment more.
“Do as you please.”
The moment Cedric’s words fell, Lorraine rose to her feet.
The man seated comfortably picked up the teacup before him and brought it leisurely to his lips.
She took in that sight for just a moment before quickly turning and leaving the room.
.
.
.
Roberto, standing straight before the door, slowly surveyed Cedric, who remained seated at the window-side table.
Lorraine had left, yet Cedric sat there for a long while with a deeply serious expression.
‘What happened?’
He’d heard Lorraine’s agitated voice through the door, but couldn’t make out the exact words.
“Roberto, I’ll call if I need anything. You may go rest now.”
“Yes, sir.”
Cedric’s intense gaze, previously fixed outside the window, shifted without a flicker toward Roberto, who still stood by the door.
“Is there something you want to say?”
“No, sir.”
Though his words denied it, his expression suggested otherwise.
Cedric’s eyebrow arched sharply, urging him to speak quickly.
“You seem… displeased, sir.”
Unable to ask outright what had transpired between the two, this was the best he could manage.
“No. It’s not displeasure—just…”
Cedric’s long eyes, which had briefly regained their usual shape, slowly narrowed again.
Then his gaze deepened once more, lost in thought.
“Hmm.”
Letting out a sound that seemed somehow ominous, Cedric straightened his torso, which had been pressed firmly against the chair.
He fixed his eyes directly on Roberto, who still stood in place.
“Who else knows the fact that Lorraine collapsed after ingesting poison?”
“…Pardon?”
“I asked who knows about it.”
His sharp gaze demanded a swift answer.
“Myself, my lady’s maid Jane, and the physician and a few servants who visited today.”

The Duke and Duchess Roger, along with Killian and Selina, were away from the estate, having been invited by a neighboring lord.
Given the length and importance of their journey, many others had accompanied them.
Cedric, rolling his deeply thoughtful eyes restlessly, slowly parted his tightly closed lips.
“We’ll cover it up.”
“…Pardon?”
“We’ll conceal what happened yesterday.”
Roberto’s eyes flew open.
“The moment news of yesterday’s incident leaks from anyone’s mouth, I’ll hold you personally responsible, Roberto.”
He swallowed hard.
Having served Cedric since childhood, Roberto knew precisely that Cedric and Lorraine were not a normal married couple.
Only the two of them and himself knew this truth within the estate.
Everyone else merely guessed as much.
‘What on earth did the two of them discuss?’
Baffled by his master’s odd command—considering he’d never shown the slightest affection toward her—
Roberto’s mind filled with huge question marks.
‘And why cover it up? Weren’t you the one who wanted to drive her out?’
Just as his confusion swelled—
“I’ll say this once more: the moment rumors spread, no one will be safe.”
A lightning flash passed over his blue eyes.
Under that blade-sharp gaze—as if it might slit his own throat—Roberto’s eyes snapped wide open.
“Yes, sir. I’ll keep it in mind.”
Roberto bowed deeply to his master, whose behavior had grown strangely unfamiliar, and swiftly left the room.

The male lead couldn’t believe it, he became angry and crazy. He was determined to capture her body and heart by any means necessary.
