She's a Villainess but her Husband is Handsome (Completed Main Story) - Chapter 8
Daddy who dotes on his daughter. A caring father… my ass.
Damn it all—he’d just watched his fleeting hope vanish in an instant.
“Just because I stayed quiet, you think I’m a fool?”
That dangerously low voice burrowed sharply into her ears.
She slowly met his gaze as his dark eyes instantly changed hue.
“What on earth are you talking about?”
She clenched her eyelids tight, desperately trying to hide her bewilderment.
“You’re asking me now as if you don’t know?”
“I truly don’t understand what you mean.”
Having absolutely no idea what was going on, she couldn’t fathom why this man was acting this way.
Hether, who’d been staring at her as if drilling through her face, slowly straightened his leaning body.
“There’s a rumor circulating among the nobles that your relationship with Cedric isn’t going well.”
His eyes sharpened like a blade, as though asserting this was utterly unacceptable.
“How do you think I got this far? Do you really think I’d risk losing everything because of someone like you?”
A mocking snort escaped through his lips, curled in contempt.
“I packed up your utterly worthless, trashy life neatly and shoved you into a duke’s household—so at least do your part in return.”
…Worthless trash.
For an instant, Lorraine clenched her fists tightly.
‘Every description of this man in the original story must be a lie.’
The man before her wasn’t her family.
They might share blood, but she doubted she’d ever consider someone who called her “trash” as family.
No matter how little she knew about Lorraine’s past, this one truth she believed without a shred of doubt.
“You’d better behave properly.”
Hether’s dark eyes flashed sharply.
“If I ever have to come looking for you like this again, you’ll be offering your pitiful life before God himself.”
It was an outright threat.
Lorraine slowly swallowed the hot breath caught in her throat.
‘I don’t understand anything at all.’
She was angry about this man’s unexpected behavior, but above all, utterly confused.
“Why do you look like you don’t understand?”
His growling voice sounded quite menacing.
What exactly should I understand to answer you? She gulped back the words rising to her throat.
After all, the daughter standing right before him wasn’t actually his daughter—it wasn’t as if she could just tell him to stop this nonsense.
All she could do was press her tightly shut lips harder and lock eyes with him straight on.
“Then again, you’ve always been like this since you were little. A child who never understood even when spoken to.”
Hether raised his bony hand into the air with a cruel smile tugging at his lips.
‘What the hell! Is he seriously going to hit me?!’
Lorraine stared wide-eyed at the hand suspended in midair.
Then she gritted her teeth hard.
‘Do I look like I’ll just stand here and take it?!’
If she had to be hit, she’d at least demand to know why.
Anyone who resorted to violence without reason was the real trash.
And right now, not knowing the reason, she certainly didn’t need to just stand there and take it from this piece of trash.
In that fleeting moment, she tightened her grip on the hem of her dress with all her strength.
Her ankle peeked out from beneath the lifted skirt.
‘I’ll just kick him right there.’
However frail she might be, there was only one way to instantly subdue a man stronger than herself.
She might get chased out as the world’s worst woman for kicking her father-in-law in the groin before getting divorced—but she didn’t care.
‘It’s not like I haven’t died once already. What difference would dying twice make?’
Rather than resenting the world once more in her final moments for its cruelty,
Trending
she’d rather leave this life remembering the satisfying kick she’d deliver right now to this damn bastard in front of her.
Just as she tensed her toes with fierce determination—
Knock knock.
A knock followed by the heavy creak of a door echoed through the room.
Creeeak.
Silence fell over the drawing room so profound even the faint scrape of metal sliding against the doorframe was audible.
Thud. Thud. With heavy footsteps, the door swung fully open.
And standing where the two frozen gazes met—
“I greet Duke Calyps.”
It was none other than Cedric.
His polite, lowered blue eyes landed on Hether’s hand, still hovering midair.
‘Let’s see how this plays out.’
The moment Lorraine shifted her gaze from Cedric to Hether—
“You seem even thinner than before, my frail child.”
His repulsive hand slowly stroked Lorraine’s cheek.
The man’s sudden switch to a completely different demeanor sent chills down her spine.
Her hand gripping the dress twitched.
She desperately wanted to slap that hand away right then and there,
but—
“Earl, have you been well these days?”
Cedric’s step forward left her unable to do anything.
“Thanks to Your Grace, I’ve lived peacefully. And yourself?”
The two men exchanged words in perfectly calm voices.
The man who’d just issued threats now wore a kindly face—but suddenly his expression turned sorrowful.
“You’ve been well, certainly… but still—”
Hether trailed off, glancing toward Lorraine.
“I heard some troubling news.”
Cedric’s outwardly flawless smile didn’t betray an ounce of discomfort as his gaze briefly met Lorraine’s before withdrawing.
“What news would that be?”
Cedric asked in a low voice, deepening the gentle smile at his lips as he stared directly at Hether.
“There’s a rumor circulating that there’s trouble between you and Lorraine…”
“A rumor?”
“You haven’t heard it yet, I see.”
“No. This is news to me.”
“Hah! Could it be you’re just too disinterested in your own marriage?”
Cedric slowly lifted his eyelids and spoke deliberately.
“What would I gain by hearing something that concerns my own life? No one knows the state of our marriage better than I do.”
“Well… I suppose that’s true.”
“Then, may I ask—was that why Your Grace rushed all the way here in person?”
His eyelids twitched slightly as Cedric added in a smooth, almost teasing tone—
“Surely it couldn’t be that serious?”
“Of course it is! Whose duty is it to step forward if not a father when his daughter is involved?”
“Naturally. However…”
Cedric let his sentence hang as he subtly lifted his chin.
The man before her slowly opened his mouth, showcasing his strikingly sharp jawline like a blade.
“They say people who’ve grown up sleeping in warm beds and eating warm meals without a care always act this way.”
This time, Lorraine’s eyes narrowed sharply.
Because he’d just repeated verbatim the words she’d spoken earlier in the room.
“Cedric. What do you mean by that?”
Hether’s eyes, now slightly irritated, fixed directly on Cedric.

“Simply that carefree nobles are always eager to meddle in others’ affairs.”
“…”
“And such interest doesn’t stop there—it spawns countless rumors, which inevitably become distorted, just like now.”
Hether’s dark eyes gradually returned to their usual color.
“So you’re saying the story I heard is baseless gossip?”
“What else would you have hoped it to be?”
Lorraine looked deeply at Cedric through slightly raised eyes.
He still wore that composed smile—but was the hostility she sensed behind it just her imagination?
‘Well, either way, I don’t really mind.’
It wasn’t exactly unpleasant that her husband was wary of the man who’d just called her trash.
In fact, she even felt like praising him for showing up at such a perfect moment.
“Hahaha! Earl Roger, you haven’t changed a bit.”
Hether’s hearty laughter filled the drawing room.
“I’ll take that as a compliment.”
“Of course it is.”
“Thank you.”
“You’ve put my mind completely at ease—I no longer worry my daughter might be suffering in silence.”
Hether looked at Lorraine with a fatherly smile.
‘This damn toothpick-faced bastard is really…’
Just as heat rose in her chest from his ridiculous performance—
“Then, may I ask one favor of Your Grace?”
Cedric spoke in a gentle tone.
“A favor? What favor?”
Hether nodded with a generous smile, as if urging him to go ahead.
“Please notify me in advance before visiting here again.”
“…What did you say?”
“As you know, my parents are away from the estate, and Lorraine and I were enjoying some private time together.”
What was he trying to say?
Lorraine glanced sideways at Cedric.
“Unexpected visits aren’t exactly welcome to me.”
Hether’s expression hardened gradually as he watched the man politely labeling him an intruder.
“Unless, of course, you dislike me so much that you’d rush here over an unverified rumor.”
Hether pressed his slightly parted lips shut, momentarily speechless.
‘This man sure knows how to say exactly what he means.’
Lorraine’s eyes flickered between the two men, who locked gazes without giving an inch.
“Don’t misunderstand me. It’s not that I dislike you—I came simply as a worried father who wanted to see his daughter’s face.”
The man tossed out that utterly implausible excuse and gave Lorraine a “doting father” smile.
“In that case, I suppose I’ve interrupted you. I’ll take my leave now.”
“That would be appreciated. It’ll give me a rare chance to spend some quiet time alone with my daughter.”
Huh?
Wait… hold on a second.
“My lady, please enjoy your private time with your father after so long.”
Was he seriously leaving her alone with this man?
‘Don’t go! Please don’t go!’
What if he hits me!
She shot a desperate look toward her husband, who was watching her steadily—but—
“I shall take my leave now.”
The man completely ignored her pleading gaze and turned lightly on his heel.
At that instant, Hether’s dark eyes locked onto her with piercing intensity.
Thud. Thud.

Her husband’s heavy footsteps echoed leisurely through the drawing room.
‘I absolutely can’t be left alone with him!’
She watched her husband’s back recede coldly.
Panicking, Lorraine opened her mouth wide—but—
“Uh… wait. His name…?”
In her fluster, her mind went blank, and she suddenly couldn’t recall her husband’s name as he walked away.
She glanced anxiously sideways—and saw the man calling himself “father” curl his lips into a disgusting sneer.
Damn it all…
She quickly fixed her desperate eyes on her husband’s retreating back.
“Hey… Ce… Ce…”
She couldn’t possibly shout, “Seki, don’t go!”
Ah, forget it! Who cares anymore!!
“Honey!!”
The moment the first word that popped into her head burst from her open lips—
“…!”
Cedric, as if struck by thunder, froze mid-step, his shoulders jerking violently.

Male lead Asks for a Divorce Every Day
It’s not often you come across a plot like this in the female-dominant genre — make sure to check it out!

This is a novel I’m planning to reread as well.
The male lead is strong, skilled in martial arts, and not the usual fragile type you often see in matriarchal novels.
Meanwhile, the female lead is a scientist—rational and logical. Even when she falls for the male lead, she doesn’t let her emotions cloud her decisions.
If you push through the first few chapters, you’ll gradually find the story really intriguing.
It has a mix of mystery, detective elements, and romance.
The author’s writing style is like crafting a puzzle—except they deliberately leave out a few pieces, making it hard to predict what happens next, yet keeping you hooked.
In the end, everything will come together and be explained.
One-sentence summary: Wife, stop playing with beakers and look at me!
In a laboratory accident, research scientist Zhu Wansheng accidentally travels to a matriarchal world. The original owner of the body is an eighteen-year-old only daughter of a wealthy rouge merchant, already married with a handsome young man.
Zhu Wansheng grins: Nice! She always said she was heaven’s favorite granddaughter. After a life of toil in her previous life, she can enjoy blessings in this one.
However, her joy lasts no more than three seconds as bad news arrives: the original owner’s family is about to go bankrupt, and her husband wants a divorce.
Even worse, she’s stuck with a research system full of restrictions.
Zhu Wansheng: ? Is this the destiny of a research dog?
——
Faced with this mess, Zhu Wansheng pours herself a bowl of wine to drown her sorrows. In her drunken haze, her husband arrives.
His figure is imposing, holding a long sword, with a dignified air that captivates Zhu Wansheng.
Gu Yingqing, however, looks at the alcohol-reeking Zhu Wansheng with undisguised disgust and coldly asks, “Divorce or not?” The intoxicated Zhu Wansheng mumbles vaguely, “I think… it’s not… it’s not… impossible!”
——
The next day, after sobering up, Zhu Wansheng is full of energy, rolling up her sleeves ready to make a big move. As for yesterday? She has no memory of it.
Zhu Wansheng is ambitious; a research dog fears nothing!
Upgrading rouge, extracting fragrances, producing perfumes, researching lipsticks… all shall bow to the power of modern technology!
The original owner’s dying rouge shop is revitalized. Her mother is pleased and with a wave of her hand, passes on the family business to her. As she takes control and her experimental results gain popularity, it’s the pinnacle of her life…
——
But there are always those who can’t stand to see her doing well. Jealousy, scheming, assassination attempts – they want nothing less than her life.
The person who has always kept his distance from her suddenly holds her tightly in his arms, eyes full of concern.
She is unharmed, but he falls into a pool of blood…
Zhu Wansheng feels guilty, “I can grant you one wish.”
Gu Yingqing tentatively circles his arms around her, carefully resting his head in the crook of her neck, pleading softly, “I regret it. Can we not divorce?”
Zhu Wansheng: ? When did I agree to a divorce?
[Small Theater]
The newly developed rouge is beautifully packaged, and Zhu Wansheng is eager to try it.
Gu Yingqing suddenly appears: “My lady, may I apply it for you?”
Cool fingertips lightly brush her lips. His Adam’s apple bobs as he leans in for a light bite.
Zhu Wansheng: ?
Gu Yingqing: It smells so good, I wanted to taste it…
On a warm spring day, Zhu Wansheng tries a new perfume: “Spring Night.” Gu Yingqing corners her against a wall.
Warm breath lingers on her neck.
“My lady, from now on, may I test the fragrances for you?”
