If I were to get a proposal, I expected to receive a ring—not to be threatened with a knife like this.

They say when someone is utterly stunned, their mind goes completely blank. For a moment, I couldn’t utter a word, and only barely managed to snap out of it.

“Marry you? Why so suddenly…? Alright then.”

“Didn’t I advise you to adopt him? Single-parent households aren’t allowed to adopt here—it’s the law of this land.”

I never expected this novel’s adoption setting to follow the modern era so precisely….

“You’re the highest authority here—don’t you have the power to bypass the law if you want?”

“You talk nonsense. Precisely because I’m the highest authority, I must uphold the law even more strictly. I’ve never used my power unjustly.”

Trying to kill me seems like a pretty unjust act to me.

“Th-then… when do you plan to grant me a divorce…?”

“I’ll grant you a divorce once the curse is lifted. I’ll also provide you with alimony enough to last your entire lifetime.”

‘Is he really speaking so generously right now?’

Well, once we’re married, he won’t be able to kill me so easily. Besides, who knows? Maybe I’ll suddenly return to my own world again.

“Alright. I’ll marry you.”

“We’ll only be married in name, so we’ll sleep separately.”

‘That’s exactly what I hoped for too.’

“Th-then we should hurry the marriage along. I need to bring Kian here soon.”

“A royal approval is required to hold a wedding ceremony. It will take a few days to receive that approval.”

“But if it’s delayed, we won’t be able to bring Kian! I have to get him three days from now—or else Raydocs will take him first!”

“I’ll ensure the ceremony is held by then. Even if we can’t complete it by that time, we can still bring the child over first, so there’s no need to rush.”

“If things go wrong, I won’t be held responsible. You promised you’d set me free if that happened.”

“I promise.”

His promise came far too easily, which made me even more uneasy. A chilling thought crossed my mind—if Kian were taken by Raydocs that day, he might kill him just to get him back.

“By the way, didn’t you say you’d use honorifics when speaking to me?”

Sure, I did say that yesterday. But since I’ve managed to keep my life, this is my last shred of pride. It’s already unfair enough to be treated this way—how could I possibly use honorifics to someone younger?

“I—I’m five years older than you, so… if you want me to use honorifics toward you, you should use them with me too….”

My voice grew weaker despite my resolve. Fortunately, when I glanced at Sikar’s expression, he didn’t seem upset, so I secretly let out a sigh of relief.

“In your world, age comes first, but it’s different here. You know that, don’t you?”

“Ah, I know.”

“Since we’ll soon be married, be sure to use honorifics with me whenever others are around. Also, don’t forget to call me ‘darling’ when necessary.”

Hearing the word “darling” come out of Sikar’s mouth felt as unnatural as hearing “Be happy” from the lips of a demon.

Since refusing his proposal meant death, I had no choice but to accept.

“But, normally when proposing, you offer a round object—not a knife.”

At my words, Sikar crossed his arms with a disinterested expression and looked down at me.

“You mean shackles?”

‘Let’s just drop this.’

Although I’d promised not to run away and to become his bride, Sikar apparently didn’t trust my word. Until the wedding, he assigned his right-hand knight, Durion, to keep watch over me.

Still, I refused to let go of that slender thread of hope.

However, as several days passed, no miracle occurred—nothing suddenly brought me back to my own world.

And so, I ultimately had no choice but to go through with the wedding to Sikar.

The wedding was held quietly, attended only by those residing in the Duke’s estate.

Partly because I suffered from agoraphobia, but more importantly, because we needed to bring Kian immediately after the ceremony concluded.

Even during the final kiss sealing the wedding, we merely pretended to kiss, successfully getting through that tense ceremony unscathed.

Grandmother had another bout of dementia and couldn’t even witness our wedding—she had to be taken straight to the Grand Cathedral Repher for treatment.

To avoid any delay in retrieving Kian, we didn’t even change out of our wedding attire before climbing into the carriage. To any onlookers, it might have seemed like we were departing immediately for our honeymoon—but in truth, we were rushing to bring Kian back as quickly as possible.

By now, Kian should be at the house where I’d stayed on my first day in this world.

And today, having run out of food entirely, Kian would collapse miserably in an alleyway from hunger.

There, Count Raydocs—the heroine’s father—would find him, take him in, and later discover he was the sole royal grandson of the Recador bloodline, vowing to protect him.

Thus, the male lead Kian would be moved by Count Raydocs’ kindness and fall deeply in love with his daughter, Lucy.

Therefore, we absolutely had to reach Kian before Count Raydocs found him.

Chapter 115 Chapter 114

Sikar held my hand, reading through the novel scenes in my memory. Seemingly satisfied with what he’d learned, he released my hand and spoke.

“Raydocs being the protagonists’ father? How utterly laughable. I wonder what expression that bastard will make if he ever learns he’s just a character in a novel.”

If it were Raydocs, he’d probably grow extremely grave and choose the path of a clergyman…

Come to think of it, Sikar must have been somewhat disturbed after realizing this world was a novel—but he looked far too composed.

“But, are you alright?”

“What do you mean?”

“You know this world is a novel now—and not only that, you’re not even the protagonist, but a villain…”

“So what? To you, this place might be a novel, but to me, it’s simply my world.”

As expected of a villain—his mental resilience was impressive.

“You, on the other hand, seem to be adapting well despite being in a world so utterly different from your own.”

Did I really seem to be adapting well? Didn’t it look more like I’d resigned myself simply because my life was under threat?

In any case, I would’ve been deeply troubled in his place, yet Sikar gazed peacefully out the carriage window.

The wind blowing into the carriage tousled his hair. The sight was mystifyingly beautiful and striking.

The reason such a handsome man like Sikar became a villain was due to the countless betrayals he’d suffered.

The deposed king had betrayed Sikar’s parents, so Sikar eliminated him and placed Gillian on the throne.

However, having witnessed his own father’s loyal lord betray them so gravely, he never fully trusted Gillian.

Thinking of why Sikar, still only twenty-two, had no choice but to distrust people made him seem somewhat pitiful.

Had I become too immersed in the novel’s storytelling? Suddenly, my eyes met Sikar’s as he turned his head toward me.

“Why are you staring at me like that?”

“Ah, I—um… it’s just…”

At that moment, I remembered I was still wearing that heavy tiara.

“I was going to ask if I could take off this tiara. It’s so heavy it’s scaring me…”

“Since the wedding’s over, you can take it off.”

“Then I’ll take it off now.”

I thought I could simply remove it in one smooth motion—but the tiara was tangled in my hair and wouldn’t come off properly.

As I struggled helplessly with the tiara, Sikar let out a long sigh.

“Before removing it, you need to untangle your hair first.”

“I’ve never worn one before—I didn’t even think of that.”

“Stay still. I’ll take it off for you.”

I assumed he’d remove it gently—but had I known he’d nearly rip my scalp off, I’d have done it myself!

“Ow! Hey! My scalp!”

“You’re being overly dramatic. Hold still—it’s almost done.”

“My crown! It feels like all the hair on my crown’s coming out!”

“It’s done.”

“…? You said it was done already?”

“Now it’s truly done.”

After repeating “it’s done” several more times, the tiara finally came off my head—and my sanity along with it.

“At least your short hair made it easier to remove.”

Easier?! He nearly turned me bald!

“Your hair’s a mess. You should fix it before we arrive.”

I looked at my reflection in the carriage window, trying to tidy my hair—and saw a disheveled, ragged-looking woman staring back.

Sikar smirked slightly at the sight of me. In the novel, it was explicitly stated he’d never smiled even once since birth, so his expression seemed nothing short of miraculous to me.

“Did you just smile at me?”

“Impossible. I’ve simply never seen a woman looking so wildly disheveled—it amused me.”

Sikar snorted and turned his head away. Then again, with his personality, even a faint smirk couldn’t truly count as a smile.

It didn’t take long before we arrived at the farmhouse on Mount Hill. Fortunately, the snow had lightened, and ahead on the path stood Kian—tall and thin for his age, just as I remembered, hauling water.

Seeing young Kian, barely seven years old, trudging through the cold with an empty stomach just to fill his belly with water made my nose sting unexpectedly.

He was the protagonist I’d lovingly followed in the novel—how could I not feel affection for him?

Though I felt slightly guilty knowing he’d nearly died because of me, at least he was alive now, and I could make it up to him going forward.

We quietly followed Kian. A short distance past the well, just as planned, Kian collapsed onto the icy winter road.

Sikar immediately stepped down from the carriage as if he’d been waiting and scooped up Kian, who lay motionless like the dead.

The small body, already suffering from cold and hunger, was now soaked through from the bucket he’d been carrying. Water dripped steadily from Kian’s clothes as he was brought into the carriage.

“What are you doing? Hurry and take off your coat to wrap the child! He’s drenched in freezing water!”

Only then did Sikar remove his coat to wrap Kian, though he looked extremely uncomfortable doing so.

“How troublesome.”

When Sikar touched Kian’s forehead, it was burning with fever.

“Just as in the original—he’s running a high fever.”

Still holding Kian awkwardly, Sikar took my hand again and began reading the next part of the story.
