“Good day, madam. I should have paid my respects much earlier, but His Grace delayed the meeting, so I am only greeting you now. I am Andrea Hayborn, the head maid of House of Duke Blake.”

Head maid Andrea was said to be a composed woman in her forties, showing no emotional ups and downs.

Though little had been explicitly said about her, there was no doubt in my mind that she must be a decent person—after all, she had served since the time of Sikar’s parents.

“Suddenly having a new master must feel strange to you, but don’t be too uneasy. I look forward to working well with you.”

“It is only natural for a servant to hold due respect for her superior. Rest assured, madam, as head maid, I shall strictly maintain discipline among the staff so that no one ever challenges your authority.”

Ah, right. She was always this principled.

“Do as you please.”

“Thank you, madam. Should there be anything you need prepared, please let me know and I shall see to it at once. Also, the maid assigned to personally attend to you will be Bella, who is in charge of your chambers.”

“Then, what about Meiri?”

“Meiri was temporarily assigned as a reception maid, but now she has been reassigned to general duties.”

But that child seemed quite clever and diligent for someone handling menial tasks.

“No. Forget Bella. I’d like Meiri to take charge of my chambers instead.”

Though Andrea could have been surprised by the unexpected request, she showed no sign of it.

“However, Meiri lacks sufficient experience to manage your chambers—would that truly be acceptable, madam?”

“Well, she may lack experience, but she struck me as quite sharp. If it’s Meiri, she’ll pick things up quickly enough.”

“Understood, madam.”

“And prepare some chicken soup. I’d like it ready to serve the moment the child wakes.”

“You must be referring to the child in the guest room. I shall have it prepared immediately, madam.”

“Then, I leave it to you.”

“Yes, madam.”

After finishing my conversation with Andrea, I slumped onto the sofa and stared blankly at the ceiling.

“Even so, I’m still not used to speaking like this.”

The sole reason I had suddenly adopted this manner of speech was entirely due to Sikar.

Last night, he had brandished that dreadful sword again and insisted I must speak like a noblewoman.

It wasn’t until I had thoroughly learned that one should never learn driving—or manners—from one’s husband that Sikar finally uttered the words, “That concludes today’s etiquette lesson.”

Though he called it an “etiquette lesson,” it had felt more like “Step One: How to Survive Your Husband.”

Before lunch arrived, Andrea had prepared the chicken soup I’d requested. I’d asked for it because, when Kian had been unwell, his father had made him chicken soup.

“May this help the child recover both body and spirit.”

“No matter how alone you may feel, it’s unbecoming for the mistress of a ducal household to sprawl so carelessly on the sofa.”

That’s precisely because you’ve worn me down so thoroughly that my soul has fled my body.

Startled by Sikar’s sudden, silent appearance, I sat bolt upright.

“According to Andrea, it was you who ordered the chicken soup. You’ve been quite resourceful with that little head of yours.”

That was, in Sikar’s own peculiar way, a form of praise. Not that I particularly cared for it.

‘I’m not that soft-hearted.’

“A child in an unfamiliar setting benefits from familiar experiences.”

“I thought the same. In fact, I was just about to instruct Andrea to prepare chicken soup myself.”

‘Hmph. Sounds to me like you’re saying that just so you won’t lose to me.’

Sikar held out his right palm toward me.

“Give me a high-five.”

“…What?”

“In your world, people clap hands together in such moments, don’t they? It’s called a high-five, isn’t it? Am I wrong?”

Thinking he was imitating something trivial, I initially resisted—but under his sharp gaze, I reluctantly bit my lip and placed my hand against his palm.

As our palms met with a soft clap, Sikar looked at me with evident amusement and then hooked his fingers with mine.

“So you’ve decided to assign Meiri instead of Bella.”

Ah, so this whole high-five routine was just his way of building up to reading my memories.

‘Ever since I started refusing to hold hands, he’s resorted to these schemes, has he?’

“You still haven’t broken that habit of shaking your leg.”

“That was only when I was alone.”

“But habits formed in solitude often surface unconsciously around others.”

Only after a bit more nagging did Sikar seem satisfied and finally release my hand.

Chapter 115 Chapter 114

“I must enter the palace today, so I’ll be leaving the ducal manor unattended—but leaving you alone like this truly worries me. Even in my absence, keep your wits about you and never let the staff forget that you are the mistress of this house.”

Sikar was leaving the manor today? Could it be that, for the first time since arriving here, I’d finally taste true freedom?

The moment Sikar left, I wanted first and foremost to eat my fill of everything I desired. Just thinking about all the restrictions I’d suffered—unable to eat properly under the pretense of upholding the dignity of the ducal mistress—brought a pang of bitterness.

The instant I heard Sikar had departed the manor, I was ready to dash straight to the dining room.

‘Andrea! Please prepare roast beef and crumble right away—and for dessert, shortbread with a cup of warm coffee!’

But I couldn’t actually run out. It was obvious that, as usual, Sikar would catch me and rifle through my memories.

Sikar probably wouldn’t suffer from jealousy even if he lived a hundred lifetimes.

Just as I sat there with a sullen frown, Vika entered alongside Meiri. Meiri set the food she carried onto the table, while Vika stood beside me wearing an infuriatingly smug smile.

“His Grace has strictly ordered me to remain by your side until you’ve fully mastered dining etiquette.”

The food Vika brought consisted of dishes typically served at high-society gatherings—things like snails and caviar, which I never particularly enjoyed and which offered no comfort to my stomach whatsoever.

Moreover, they simply didn’t suit my taste at all.

It would be nice if they’d protect not just the dignity of the mistress but also her stomach—eating this and feeling full would be stranger still.

Sikar scratched his left ear a few times as if it itched, waiting alone in the empty audience chamber for Gillian to finish the royal council meeting.

“My oath to my lord runs deeper than blood oaths; my promise for my lord holds truer than any sacred vow; my love for my lord is holier than faith itself.”

These were words Sikar’s late father, Bemon, had always spoken—not only to his own son but also to all his subordinates, having devoted everything to his liege.

After losing his father to the deposed king’s betrayal, Sikar had dismissed those words as nonsense.

Initially, he had supported Gillian partly to stabilize his crumbling ducal house and partly to easily manipulate the throne.

But when Gillian dethroned the corrupt king, restored order to the troubled realm, and brought comfort to the suffering people, Sikar felt a faint warmth in his chest.

It was then that he first understood his father’s heart.

Thus, he had made Gillian swear never to keep secrets from his vassals.

Yet now, Gillian was treading the same path the deposed king had taken with his own father.

The Gillian seen in Yura’s memories wasn’t the lord he had once acclaimed. Still, he wanted to confirm once more—did Gillian still remember the oath they’d made together?

Gillian soon concluded the council meeting and entered the audience chamber with an awkward smile.

“Have you been waiting long?”

Gillian hurried in like someone late for an appointment and immediately drank some water.

This showed he’d rushed over without even taking a sip after hearing of Sikar’s arrival at the palace.

Normally, anyone would rise upon the king’s entry—but Sikar merely leaned back against the sofa, legs crossed.

This signaled that he still didn’t fully recognize Gillian as king and simultaneously asserted Sikar’s position as the kingdom’s true power.

Though Sikar rarely showed emotion, his expression betrayed neither hostility nor loyalty.

‘…You were already plotting behind my back to secretly locate and eliminate royal bloodlines the moment you sat on the throne.’

Worse still, he’d later asked Sikar to eliminate Kian, claiming Veronia was planning to place Kian on the throne.

Realizing he’d be betrayed by this man just as his father had been by the deposed king, Sikar felt a sudden urge to eliminate Gillian right then and there.

But it was too risky now. Gillian was always accompanied by his trusted mages and spirit callers, and all members of the Recador royal family possessed divine power—making total victory impossible.

To move against Gillian, he’d need support from other nobles—but he lacked justification. To gain that, he first needed to find Princess Veronia, whom Gillian had imprisoned.

Sadly, Sikar couldn’t read the memories of royals—their bloodline was too sacred for such intrusion.

Where on earth could she be hidden?

“Your Majesty.”

“Yes? Please speak, Lord Sikar.”

“Do you remember what I once told you?”

“Of course. Not a single word you’ve spoken has escaped my memory.”

“Do you also recall my warning never to keep secrets from me?”

“How could I forget?”

‘Liar.’

Until now, Sikar had believed Gillian respected and feared him more than anyone else. But after reading Yura’s memories, he realized it had all been a ploy—merely tactics to secure his own kingship.

Sikar clenched his fists tightly, suppressing the urge to grab the table beside him and hurl it straight at Gillian’s face.

“You must remember it for the rest of your life.”

That was a warning heralding their ruin.

After leaving the palace, Sikar walked toward his carriage.

He never employed a separate coachman; whenever he traveled, he always entrusted the carriage to Durion.

Durion had been an orphan abandoned in front of a monastery. As he grew, he caused so much trouble he was transferred to a poorhouse—but even there, he didn’t stay long.

After maturing into a young man, he gained fame as a mercenary on the battlefield, and his bond with Sikar began when they met trapped in a giant antlion pit.

As Sikar approached the carriage, Durion, who had been yawning on the driver’s seat, turned his head.

Though cheerful and bright-natured, Durion had learned nothing but fighting as he grew up—thus, he lacked any refinement and remained thoroughly rough around the edges.

“Why the long face? You look like a child who just had their candy snatched away.”

“Quiet. Just get us moving.”

Durion took hold of the reins but showed no intention of actually departing.

“I heard you’re sleeping in separate chambers? Why? The lady is beautiful and kind-hearted. Haven’t you heard the saying—’He who makes a woman weep shall be struck by frost’?”

“Frost will fall, then.”

“Exactly! That means natural disaster is coming—be careful. A kind woman isn’t meant to be made to cry. How hurt she must feel!”

“So? What exactly are you trying to say?”

“You didn’t even show your face when she tried on her wedding dress, and you told Andrea to buy the wedding ring for you.”

“She’s clearly not the type who cares about such things.”

Durion sighed in exasperation and ran his fingers through his deliberately swept-back bangs.

“Ugh, you really are impossible. Don’t you realize the staff are watching? They might start seeing the lady as nothing more than a foreigner bought for money!”

“Even so, no one would dare challenge the Duchess’s authority.”

“Certainly not—but just imagine if such talk ever reached her ears. Wouldn’t that upset her? Honestly, I offer honest counsel, yet you never understand!”

“Are you suggesting I share a bed with her?”

“No, that’s not it at all! Just buy her a ring—women love those things. She’ll be touched.”

“A ring?”

“Yes, a ring.”

Sikar recalled Yura’s words from not long ago, when she’d pouted and said:

“A proposal is done with something round.”

Was that “round thing” a ring?

Come to think of it, Jin Yura had never even experienced proper romance in her life, let alone received a ring—so perhaps she truly wished to receive one, just once.

‘What a hassle—I have to worry about such trivial things now.’

Though slightly annoyed, Sikar decided it wasn’t worth causing unnecessary gossip.

“Let’s go to the jeweler’s.”

This time, Durion happily tugged the reins, clearly pleased with the decision.

My Arch-enemy Sealed My Memory and Said That He is My Husband

This is an incredibly captivating story that you absolutely shouldn’t miss! I’ll give a brief introduction here, and below you’ll find a detailed synopsis of the plot.

The female lead is a fierce and powerful demon king. The male lead is a once-in-a-millennium celestial lord, admired by the entire cultivation world.

They are equally matched, legendary rivals who have battled for centuries.

In the final duel, the female lead is gravely injured. The male lead saves her, seals her memories, and hides her true identity. He tells her that he is her fiancé. His entire life has been flawless—except for the one thing he never expected, never controlled, and never wanted to control: falling for his greatest enemy. She is his inner demon, his obsession.

When the female lead regains her memories, she is furious at his deception.

She makes his life a living hell.

And somehow, the male lead—possibly a total masochist—doesn’t mind at all. In fact, he’s happy she’s paying attention to him.

Yep, we’re back to my favorite trope: male lead suffering. If you love this kind of story, jump into the pit with me now!!!

Intro

Dong Xia lost her memory.

Her handsome and extremely powerful fiancé Li Qing comforted her: “It’s okay if you can’t remember. I’ll always be with you.”

Everyone thought Dong Xia’s ancestors must have burned incense to get such a perfect fiancé. He was the number one person in the immortal realm, yet he remained chaste and only loved her.

…

The day before marrying her fiancé, Dong Xia finally remembered everything.

She wasn’t suffering from memory loss at all.

Her arch-enemy had made her fake her death, destroyed her cultivation, replaced her memories, and pretended to be her deeply in love fiancé.

No wonder he said, “It’s okay if you can’t remember”!

Dong Xia laughed coldly as she pulled out her long knife: Li Qing, prepare to die 🙂

*

Li Qing, as the supreme being of the immortal realm, was the people’s shining beacon.

The only unknown stain in his life was his affection for Dong Xia, the ruler of the demon realm.

In the final battle of the war between immortals and demons, the sky collapsed and the earth shattered. The ruler of the demon realm was finally slain under the sword of the supreme being of the immortal realm, and everyone in the immortal realm applauded.

The cultivation world lost a ruler of the demon realm.

And in the back mountain of Li Qing’s cave dwelling, he secretly hid away a fiancée.

Notes:

1. The female lead is white on the outside, black on the inside, and the queen of flattery; the male lead repeatedly tests the edge of darkness, a VIP guest at the crematorium.

2. Fantasy cultivation world setting.
