The Extra's Role is Too My Taste (Completed Main Story) - Chapter 1
“Where am I?”
Do Yeon shivered at the sudden chill in the air and looked around.
Inside the dimly lit tent, a group of women huddled together, quietly sobbing.
“What? I died, right? I was trapped in that burning warehouse—it was so unbearably hot, there’s no way I could’ve survived!”
Could this be a dream? Can people even dream after death?
Or was this the afterlife?
Utterly bewildered, Do Yeon searched for the one woman among them who still seemed somewhat composed and asked hesitantly,
“Um… where is this place?”
The woman stared back at her with a weary face and asked in return,
“Were you captured today?”
Captured?
Though confused, “Brody” nodded slowly.
“Wait—Brody?”
Do Yeon was startled.
She had somehow already begun thinking of herself as “Brody.”
Flustered, she looked down at her own body. Instead of her familiar black hair, light brown locks cascaded past her shoulders.
Her temples throbbed, and her whole body began to tremble.
“What’s going on? Me—Brody? Why am I her?”
The woman in front of her asked with concern,
“Are you all right?”
Though pale and haggard, the woman appeared to have once had some meat on her bones, and even in this dire situation, she still had enough composure to worry about others.
Brody felt a small measure of relief at the woman’s worried tone and looked back at her.
“Ah… I think I hit my head—I’m not thinking straight.”
“Damn bastards. Just because this scrawny girl dared to resist, they beat her head like that.”
The woman’s face, which had just shown worry for Brody, twisted in anger as she cursed bitterly. She shook her head and finally answered Brody’s question.
“This is Grand Duke Icewall’s prisoner tent. Do you remember the Northern Grand Duke who started the rebellion?”
“Uh…?”
Grand Duke Icewall? Rebellion? Prisoner? What was all this about?
Brody began to doubt again whether she was dreaming.
After all…
“Grand Duke Icewall? Isn’t he just an extra character from that trashy novel I read while shivering in fear?”
That familiar title belonged to a character from the novel she’d read while trapped in the warehouse, waiting for morning.
It was the only novel downloaded onto her phone—no Wi-Fi, no signal—so even though she disliked the story, she’d read it over and over.
She’d needed something to keep her mind sharp against the bone-chilling cold, and she hadn’t had a choice.
“Now that I think about it… Brody…? That’s—That’s—!”
While Brody tried to recall more, the woman continued explaining.
“Turns out Grand Duke Icewall really is as insane as the rumors say. Every morning, he kills the woman who served him in his tent the night before—brutally. One each day, without fail. Fourteen nights have already passed… and no one… has ever come back.”
While half-listening to the woman’s kind but grim explanation, Brody furiously racked her brain.
This… me…
It seemed she’d been reincarnated as the “villainess” from that novel.
“Ugh…”
Brody clutched her head and hunched over. The woman, thinking she was overwhelmed by shock, patted her shoulder worriedly.
Feeling the steady, monotonous rhythm of that pat, Brody slowly sifted through the memories in her mind.
Her—this body’s—name was “Brody.”
She was the foolish villainess from the novel .
A tragic villainess who adored the blond male lead, “Jax McCarthy,” endured endless manipulation, and was eventually cast aside!
From childhood, gaslit so thoroughly she willingly let herself be used, she even credited all her great accomplishments to Jax.
But Jax used those very accomplishments to meet the Imperial Princess and fall in love.
“I’m sorry, Brody. I really do care about you—you know that. But we’re like siblings. Not lovers.”
After dedicating her entire life only to be abandoned by the male lead, Brody snapped and committed countless foolish villainous acts to obstruct the protagonists, fully earning her title as the villainess.
Trending
Yet, those very acts only made the protagonists’ love burn brighter and stronger.
In the end, villainess Brody was moved by the angelic female lead, “Myra Riley,” resolved to live virtuously, and served as bridesmaid at the two blond protagonists’ wedding—ending the novel on a happily-ever-after note.
“Ugh, that’s disgusting. Being turned into a villainous Cupid? Blech. What’s so great about being ‘moved’ that she sticks around those two? Gross.”
She’d thought that constantly while reading the novel.
If she were Brody, she’d never live like that.
Had her words somehow come true? Had the seed sprouted? Seed… sprouting?
Though the situation was unbelievable, “Brody”—now pinching her own arm and feeling real pain—cursed inwardly.
“I don’t know if this is a dream or what, but I’ll live as I please. There’s no reason I should follow this ridiculous novel’s plot.”
Reincarnated as Brody, she resolved to live a life completely unrelated to the two protagonists.
“Grand Duke Icewall…”
As she dredged up more memories, it seemed that right now, Brody had infiltrated enemy territory to assassinate the Northern Grand Duke—Jax’s enemy—for his sake.
“Of all the timing to get reincarnated, it had to be now? If it was going to happen, why not before I got captured as a prisoner?”
Just as she’d roughly figured out the situation, the tent flap rustled and was pulled aside.
Outside, it was dark—clearly nighttime—and inside, the faint, flickering lamplight made it hard to distinguish anyone’s face, casting eerie, shifting shadows.
When a soldier-like man entered, the women bit their lips hard and buried their faces between their knees, trying to stifle even their sobs.
“You!”
He pointed directly at Brody.
Still dazed, she was roughly hauled upright by two strong men.
Amid the complex gazes of the other women—fear, pity, and even relief—she was dragged outside. The woman who’d explained everything covered her mouth with both hands and watched her with sorrowful eyes. That was the last thing Brody saw before the tent door closed behind her.
The next tent she arrived at was brighter than the previous one.
Three stern-faced women stood waiting, each holding a damp cloth.
Brody was unceremoniously stripped by them and scrubbed so harshly it felt more like scouring than washing.
As a war prisoner, she was in a truly filthy state.
Yet even after their rough ministrations, she was only marginally cleaner—barely rid of the worst grime.
Water must have been scarce; that was all they could manage.
Next, they combed her hair with a coarse, sparse brush.
Her light brown locks, tangled with dirt and dust, were barely tamed into place.
Then they thoroughly inspected every orifice—nose, mouth, ears—you name it.
It was so meticulous it bordered on humiliating.
“Ugh, seriously. Why do I have to go through this? Stupid Brody!”
Though she called her stupid, she couldn’t help but feel sorry for the “original Brody.” She now understood just how desperately that girl had loved Jax…
Brody sighed inwardly as those unfamiliar memories felt strangely like her own.
Dressed in new clothes that, while clean, couldn’t be called beautiful, she was finally released from their hands.
But what awaited her next would surely be far worse.
After all, she was being sent to the notoriously cruel Grand Duke Icewall.
As she was dragged away again, her arms gripped tightly—
When she saw stars pouring from the sky instead of neon signs—
When she stepped on moss- and soil-covered ground instead of asphalt—
The reality of this place settled in her chest like a heavy sorrow.
Soon, a large tent came into view at the edge of her vision.
True to its owner’s status, it was grand in size and intricately decorated with various patterns.
“This must be Grand Duke Icewall’s tent.”
Passing through a double-layered entrance, she was shoved into her final destination.
The Grand Duke’s tent was just as dim as the others.
On the desk sat a simple candle, and by its flickering light, a man was studying maps and documents.
“Is that him… the Grand Duke Icewall I’m supposed to poison?”
Though thrust into this unfamiliar, absurd situation, strangely, she didn’t feel afraid.
The method of poisoning came naturally to her mind, and having read the novel, she already knew the outcome.
In the original story, this was the scene where Brody successfully poisoned the enemy Grand Duke Icewall and returned safely, earning great merit.
Glancing down discreetly, Brody checked her palm. Briefly, a faint blue leaf appeared and vanished.

“Good. My ‘ability’ is working properly.”
Feeling confident nothing would go wrong, Brody calmly observed the man.
He’d glanced at her only once when she first entered, and since then hadn’t spared her another look.
Thus, she had ample time to study him carefully.
He looked like the kind of man who could cut down a hundred people without breaking a sweat.
Broad-shouldered, ruggedly handsome, his clothes stained with blood—as if fresh from battle—testified to how often he danced with danger and yet always survived.
His sharp sapphire eyes, fitting for his nickname “Icewall,” revealed no flicker of emotion.
His grim, war-hardened expression, his haggard face covered in dust—yet his unwavering gaze still glinted brightly in the candlelight.
He carried an unmistakable air of authority befitting his title of Grand Duke.
Was this man truly the kind of trash who used women for just one night and then discarded them? He certainly didn’t look the part.
“He doesn’t seem like a lecher at all.”
Brody mentally ran through all the superiors she’d ever known.
“He looks more like someone crushed under the weight of responsibility—a workaholic, through and through. Sigh… Look at that deep shadow of worry in his eyes. Honestly… it’s kind of sexy.”
That melancholic, steadfast presence—gulp. She had to admit it. This supposedly minor character, Grand Duke Icewall, was totally her type.
“If only his personality isn’t trash, he’d be absolutely perfect.”
She even thought that if given the chance to spend a day with him, women might line up all the way down Gwanghwamun Street.
No matter how she looked at it, she couldn’t think of any reason to kill this man, a stranger with whom she shared neither acquaintance nor grudge.
He seemed… too precious to kill.
Besides, she’d already decided she wouldn’t follow the original plot anyway…
“Considering that the two golden-haired protagonists used Brody and then put on a show of being so virtuous, maybe this guy isn’t actually a bad person. If he were truly despicable, people here would’ve taken care of him already. But I still have to escape.”
Having thoroughly examined him, Brody turned and scanned the tent.
Though modest for a Grand Duke’s quarters, it was furnished with all necessary daily items.
Her eyes landed on a brazier and a kettle.
Carefully, she moved toward them.
“As expected… there it is.”
Beside the kettle sat a tea leaf container. In the original story, Brody had brewed tea for him, so she’d assumed tea leaves would be here.
“I guess even in times of food shortages, people like this can still enjoy luxuries. Well, he is the master of the North, after all…”
Shaking off her stray thoughts, she used the unfamiliar brazier to heat water in the kettle.
Right now, she couldn’t afford any mistakes.
With her full focus and care, she brewed the tea.
Throughout this, the man still paid her no attention.
But when she cautiously approached and placed a teacup before him, he finally reacted.
His sharp gaze fell upon the plain, worn white teacup.
The innocent cup held tea at just the right temperature, steaming gently in the cold northern air.
“Tea? Was there some here?”
The Grand Duke tried to recall.
Then he remembered vaguely—his Chief of Staff had insisted, “Please, Your Grace, drink at least this—if you keep not sleeping, you’ll fall asleep and die on the battlefield,” and had left it here.
Slowly, his gaze shifted from the teacup to her.
Brody stood with her hands clasped tightly, meeting his eyes.
Her heart pounded. Up close, his handsome face revealed a beauty different from afar. Even his harsh, sharp expression couldn’t hide his stunning features.
But…
“Why is he staring at me like that?”
His gaze felt oddly intense.
What’s going on? Did he figure something out?
Impossible. In the original story, the man drank the tea Brody offered.
“No matter how minor the scene, it was absurd that a Grand Duke would just drink tea handed to him by an enemy prisoner.”
Even if Brody’s tea-making skills were exceptional.
“Well, they did search me incredibly thoroughly, and no one could have anticipated Brody’s ‘special ability.’”
Brody calmly met his gaze, wearing her most harmless expression.
The rich, bittersweet scent of tea filled the space between them.

After studying her intently, his forehead deeply furrowed, he finally spoke.
“Leave it here.”
His voice was low and resonant.
Without a word, Brody returned to stand by the tent entrance.
The man stared blankly at the teacup for a while, letting time pass.
Brody swallowed hard. One minute felt like an hour.
“Drink it! Just drink it! Once you do…”
The man finally lifted the teacup.
“In this scene, that man dies.”
Brody’s clasped hands tightened.
After briefly savoring the aroma, he took a sip. She watched as his strong Adam’s apple bobbed up and down.
“No—he dies, in the original story, that is.”
In the original, “poison” had been added—but this Brody hadn’t done that.
Instead, she’d put “something else” in the cup—purely to aid her escape.
Now that he’d drunk it, her plan’s success was only a matter of time.
The man shook his head slightly after drinking.
“Right, you should feel sleepy. I put in plenty of ‘Meyshu.’”
Once he fell asleep, Brody planned to use “her ability” to escape.
“Sleep already. Hurry up.”
Though she expected everything to go smoothly, Brody waited tensely.
But—wait—something… felt off.
“Meyshu” was meant to calm people down. Depending on the dose, it could even put someone to sleep.
She’d used the right amount—so why wasn’t he falling asleep?
His once-sharp eyes now looked hazy and unfocused.
With heavy, tired eyelids, he shook his head slowly.
His gaze, as he looked up at Brody—clearly dizzy—wavered in and out of focus.
Yet, stubbornly, he refused to close his eyes.
“Why? Why?!”
Seeing the towering man stagger toward her, she froze in place.

When male lead is the homewrecker
“I know she doesn’t love him.”
I’ve read the novel below twice already. Girls, I’m highly recommending it to you!

The female lead? Not a good person.
The second male lead? Not a good person.
The male lead? Willingly plays the third party, breaking up the female and second male lead’s relationship despite all the warnings from his friends—so yeah, he’s definitely not a good person either.
Basically, nobody in this novel is simple-minded or without scheming.
The female lead starts off as the male lead’s secretary, but don’t worry—later on, she takes over the company while the male lead steps back to support her. He won’t steal her spotlight, overshadow her, or dull her shine.
I love novels where men are out here snatching wigs, tearing each other down, and going to war just to win the female lead’s affection. And this is exactly that kind of novel. Most of Hai Dai Ran’s works have this dynamic. You’ll see the male characters’ emotions being pushed to the absolute extreme.
There’s even a scene where the second male lead exposes the male lead online for being a homewrecker. The brotherhood immediately gangs up on him, dragging him through the mud. I find it compelling —it completely flips reality on its head, where usually, women are the ones fighting over a man and getting torn apart by the sisterhood.
For me, female leads in the novels I read should only struggle in their careers, not in love. But if the brainless romantics in the story are all men? I have zero complaints.
I’ve pretty much read all of Hai Dai Ran’s novels and even translated all of them—her works are just my thing. I’ll slowly upload everything here. One day, when my website is official, I hope I can invite her to join as one of the star authors.

A completely different story; the heroine didn’t find herself in a bed, but as a prisoner of war.
